OT - A trip to Bodie, CA last friday

Real life has been taking a bite out of my shooting time lately. Last Friday I had a chance to take a friend of mine to Bodie. He lives in Ohio and had never been there. While his schedule necessitated that we be there pretty close to mid-day I did manage to get a few images that I was happy with.

Nice shots! It looks like it was a great location for shooting.

#5 is my favorite, I really like the look of the sky. Were you using a CP or did you burn it in post?

The last two are shot in infrared. In addition to my 5D, I have a RebelXT that's been converted to IR.

Very cool! Are you into astrophotography as well?

Nope. For astrowork you remove the hotmirror entirely. My conversion is replacing the hotmirror with an opaque IR filter so it passes ONLY IR. It doesn't see visible light at all.

Infrared is just amazing, I'd like to get an old rebel and convert it. It always baffles me to think how much joy we take from the small visible light spectrum seen by our eyes. There is a whole invisible world out there. The entire series was fantastic.

I think those turned out great Doug. I really like the IR as well, that is something that I've always wanted to try. I've been to Bodie twice nice and both times it was closed up. I either got there too late or there was too much snow. Oh well, someday

Thanks. The skies in California are still pretty smokey; that's why I didn't include any in the color shots. The IR cuts right through it. Always work with what you're given.
