Looking great after a year! Love the Jordani's and that elegance... keep up the good work and your updates. Thanks!

I had a mishap ambitious as always trying things up I set up the skimmer on a milk crate to give more elevation. bad idea. somehow caught air in the black bottom chamber and fell apart like Pisa tower breaking in to pieces.

Hello there

Hello there

Hello Frank,

Is your tank SPS? what kind of flow are you running? the sand you have in your display tank, could you give some specs as to the depth and size? See you have some gobies and other critters than like sand in your pictures.

The tank is mixed there are SPS, LPS and Soft Corals
But the tank is deep at almost 60 inches tall.

I did use oolitic aragonite

Golden head gobies turn the sand around. The sand is 6 inches deep and due to the circulation of the water and the critters activity it moves creating a very natural look

The flow is provided by a close loop with a hammerhead pump plus another hammer head as a main pump feeding the 6 outlets on the top of the tank.

I am in the process of a large build (a 1,000g tank) and had planned on a DSB in it, but after speaking with several people at MACNA last weekend, they recommendation was not to go to a deep sand bed in the display tank with SPS the flow stirs up the sand and the high flow suspends it and/or throws it up onto the live rock/corals. May I ask your experience with it?

If your tank is going to be SPS only no gravel will be recommended in order to clean the bottom of the tank efficiently but the aesthetics will be unnatural correct?

Well I have grown SPS with sand and its ok too as long as you are diligent with the husbandry of the tank.

The recommendations were to use a heavier/larger sand, don't place sand under the rock if planning on a detritus clearing loop under the rock. There were a few other thoughts I have been thinking about, including making some protected areas or pockets and making them 6" deep to host some critters and such.

Well thought

As for a DSB, my system will be having two DSB 32" x 96" x 16" with 8" of sand (over 30 c.ft. total) and 6" of water flowing over top. There will be some live rock on the top of the sand to interrupt flow across the sand bed and also have some sponges on them.

Looking forward to see your pics

Cheers!

Thanks, Joe from Windsor, Ontario

Greetings Frank! Ran into you at a local fish store. I think it's time to update pics of your tank don't you think? :) I do want to see that pair of Naso tangs you got. Perhaps a short video?

Have not seen any qt tanks in your fish rooms, unless missed in the beginning of the thread.
Do you add fish straight to dt?
Thank you for great tank info
