Our 400 Gallon In Wall Natural Sun-Lit Reef"

I have a question about your skimmer. On MRC's website their pic of the MRC6r is different from the one you are using. Their's show two chambers, while yours is only one. Can you explain the differences? The reason why I'm asking is I need to upgrade my modified MR-1 on my 400.

Also, MRC rates the MRC6r for 1450 gallons. Why did you pick a skimmer that's rated almost 4-times your take size?

Thanks

1: I think his IS two chambers, he just didn't show both in the photo, and
2: Whats there to loose? The bigger the skimmer the better!

That was an older design the reaction chamber it taller and wider now. the reason I went with the R6 is for future system expansion. I am working on plans for about a 250gal refugium plus's 100gal frag tank the MRC3 just wasn't large enough

I was thinking it was an older design. I actually found a single R6 on Champion's website but the column isn't as tall as yours.

I'm debating between another MR skimmer or Aquamedic's 36" baby turbofloater.

I’ve never seen an Aquamedic skimmer in action. I have had many skimmers over the years Euro Reef, Reef Dynamics, and Reef Octopus. The amount of skim that the MRC makes unbelievable with the 2 1inch becket injectors nothing can touch the air input. If I turn the air input off the water level is only 1 inch above the blue base the skim is so thick and the bubbles are microscopic If I shine a flood light through the reaction chamber you can’t see the light through the skim.

You could always get one of the new MRC skimmers

Now that's a skimmer! My LFS here in Tulsa has the 48" dual recirculating Aquamedic skimmer and I really like it. Because of the way my 400 is set up i have to put the skimmer beside the tank, so this allows me roughly 36-40 inches to work with, and I can feed it off one of the existing closed loop pumps.

Since most skimmers are now put in the sumps under our tanks, they're short and in my opinion not as efficient as the tall skimmers used yrs ago.

Any updates on your wife? I hope she is doing well.

Thank you for asking Scott

She has her up days and down days, this week has been filled with shoots trying to build her immune system back up. Her immune system is at a very critical level, just a sneeze or a cough around her and she could end up in the hospital.

But it didn't stop her from adding a decretive shelve to the aquarium today.

Marvelous work and best wishes from fellow reefers and Rush fanatics.
Terry and I have been watching this build - such a thoughtful design and great execution! Keep up the good work...so much of what you do is inspiring.

Thanks for Oh, Holy Night that is a special lady singing a beautiful song. If that doesn't bring chills to the spine --- check your pulse -- there is something wrong.

I just get goose bumps listening to Celine sing Oh, Holy Night. Thank you for sharing the video. Love the new accessories. The shelf and seating are a perfect way to sip coffee, and view the tank. And I am so glad Kelly felt well enough to do it! Have a beautiful Christmas.

Thanks everyone! My wife wanted to say thank you for all the well wishes. We hope everyone is having a beautiful Christmas!

Very nice build,i began reading when i saw you were located in New Port Ritchey.. I lived in Spring Hill for quite a long time. Best wishes to your wife and yourself during your difficult times. I have a question if you dont mind.. Does the filter sock design create noise from the cascading action to the water level?

Thank you!

My return lines run to their own chamber in the sump, when that chamber fills up with water the water then over flows to the filter sock chamber. There is very little noise; with the cover over the filter sock chamber the sump is silent. With this filter sock design water makes better contact with the entire sock

Here is a quick video I just shot.

are you running any type of refuge?

L.R.

I am working on plans for about a 250gal refugium, but its on hold until my wife is ready for me to start making a mess in the house again. I need to move a wall or two.
I'm also working on a 100 gal frag setup.
