Peeping Banggai Fry

Hey could you post a pic on the fins you are talking about to tell what sex they are?

Here is a pic...

We found 1 baby banggai in the over flow box tonight!
So we set a 5g holding tank, we have some enriched BBS we feed the seahorses but they seem so big compared to the baby banggai!
Sorry, I'm not trying to hijack the thread
I just wanted to share the good news
If all goes well we will start a thread.

No problem edandsandy! Glad you found it before it got sucked into the skimmer or whatever pump. Good luck! Try to hatch bbs and feed those. Im sure you're fry will love it. Just make sure to enrich it with HUFA or phyto before feeding it to your fry cause BBS is not really nutritious and you need HUFA so that the fry will not experience SFS. :)

Just wanted to share our progress, we purchased a fish breeder trap did a little modification and placed the baby back in the big tank and the baby is doing much better today!

Thank you Shady_Say!
If I may ask, How long are you feeding the babies BBS? :reading:

It also looks like we have the same idea on the holding tank for the babies, except we placed the suction cups in a different place, however I like where you placed yours!

Congrats shandy.I am setting up a 29 gallon and 40 breeder for bangais,The female is ready to drop her eggs any time now.

For the 1st batch i still feed them BBS everyday. But im mixing it with some DIY food and some cyclopeeze. It takes some time to wean them off it and right now im not yet willing to risk their health since they are just about 2 months old and still quite small. Hopefully in the next couple of months i will be able to wean them completely off bbs.

Well i don't have any other place to put the hatching cages. I already have 3 tanks running and i just don't have the time nor the energy to build and maintain another tank. hahah!

Good luck bro and congrats!

I already lost 1 fry from my 2nd batch so that brings it down form 14 to 13. I dunno why i lost this one though. Most probably from SFS during collection. They are just so delicate! :(

They are tiny, what is sfs.Mine are eating a mixture of frozen and live bbs.I am like you,I would hate to take a chance of loseing any trying to feed something differant.

sfs = sudden fright syndrome

I was asking my uncle who was a breeder of freshwater discus. He said i should take it slowly and in time they will learn to eat something else other than bbs. His technique for training the discus fry was to feed bbs in the morning, then prepared foods at night. This makes sure that the fry eat something atleast once a day. Im not sure however if this will work with Banggai. I hope it does though. hahah!

Hahahah! Let me know how it goes. Ive tried doing that with my 1st batch already. At first they would try some so i fed that for a couple of weeks. But after sometime they refused to eat again so i had to go back to bbs. I was kinda bummed out when they started to refuse eating the shaved DIY food and their stomachs got smaller and smaller. Just watch out for them and if you see them going thinner, just feed bbs again.

The was nice thread :)
I do have my Cardinal male got eggs in his mouth for three days. Do you know how long it is going to take to get baby Cardinals?

Keep track of the days, and around day 18 start looking for the fry in his mouth.I caught my male on day 20 and he released them as soon as he was in the container.
