Peeping Banggai Fry

thanks snakemanvet! Congrats as well! My male is still holding his new clutch of eggs and hopefully by early september i will have another batch of fry. Now my problem is where to keep them as i already have 3 tanks running now and i don't want to add another! heheh! The 1st batch arent ready yet and it will take another 2-3 months before they will be ready to be sold.

 congrats to you both for doing such a great job and keeping us posted on your progress. I have enjoyed reading your thread, and learning a lot as well. I have a male that has had a brood 3 or 4 times now, but either he is swallowing them or I am missing the release every time!
How can you tell when they are ready to breed? I have not witnessed "the dance"
With our clown fish I know when they are getting ready to lay their eggs.

It looks like most of my first batch is sold,I will keep 4 or 5 and hopefully get a couple more pair for breeding.Keep up the good work.
edandsandy it will let the op answer your question.,I don't wont to seem like I am hijacking his thread.

Thanks edandsandy! I already experienced that. He swallowed his first few batches and only held on to his clutch of eggs to full term on his 5th try. Most probably he wasn't ready to be a dad yet that time. Now that he's fully mature he holds on to the eggs to full term. You just have to wait it out. In time he will learn to hold them.

As for the dance, usually it happens in the afternoon in my experience. My pair usually "dance the afternoon away" heheh!

No worries bro! Your updates/answers are more that welcome to be posted here.

You already sold the fry? People here are actually lining up to buy the banggai from me but im still hesitant to sell them at this time cause they are still too small. Like i said before, almost all the imported banggai that arrive here die within 2 weeks even if they are placed in well maintained tanks. We still don't know why this happens.

I'll probably keep a pair from my first batch. The remaining 4 will be sold in 2-3months time or when they reach 2inches depending on which comes first.

They are wanting to buy,but I will hold them until they are a decent size.at what age would be best.I am figureing around 3 months.I will be moveing them to a 40 breeder in a couple of weeks to give them more room.

I think in 3-4 months they will be ready. Whats more important is they are all eating prepared food already. Im thinking about trying to train them to eat flakes or pellets. Have you tried feeding your banggais flakes or pellets yet?

From what I have read, they won't eat flakes or pellets. My parent bangaiis won't touch nothing but frozen or live meaty foods.Mine are eating a mixture of frozen bbs and live bbs enriched with aminos and omegas.Today marked the 2nd week point,so far no chaseing or nibbing going on.

Nice! Congrats! Just keep a close eye on them. Mine were getting along one day and then killing the smaller ones the next. Still baffled as to why this happened but never hurts to keep a close eye on them.

Yeah IME also they won't touch anything other than frozen or live meaty foods. My pair wont even taste or chase after pellets or flakes. Well whats important is they eat something. But still hoping my fry will atleast try some. I do think however it is possible to train them to eat flakes.

What size tank are you keeping them in.I am planning on setting up a larger tank to give them room. Will put base rock in give them hiding areas.

I am looking at a 40 breeder to move them in.I have not witnessed any aggression yet. They know what the turkey baster is now.

Thats good! Congrats! I used to use a syringe with a hose attached to it to feed the fry. Now i just dissolve some of my DIY food into a cup of tank water and just pour it in slowly. Works the same way! heheh!

Sad day for me...the runt of the remaining 6 which i placed in a separate holding cage looks like it wont survive. Its already lying down on the bottom of the cage and breathing heavily. Truly is survival of the fittest. He was actually only 1/2 the size of the other 5. The remaining 5 on the other hand look ok and are constantly out and about.

Do U thing that I can put a breeding pair in 15G tank?

Nice work.

Plz give us more pic and don't stop to update.

i guess thats not a problem as long as they are the only ones there. They can get easily frightened by boisterous tankmates and you don't want that especially when your male is holding eggs.
