Pife's One fifty glass box build

.

I have started dosing it again to bring it down. I think I will find a maintenance dose like you.

I need to do a sump cleaning. I might have too much detritus build up or something along those lines.

I turkey baster it and my nitrate reactor back into the tank. :o Perhaps someday I will pay for keeping the fish poo in the tank but at least I will know what caused it this time. At the end of my tank troubles I did a number of deep vaccing of my sandbed which seemed to improve things each time I did it along with a water change.

Very nice cell phone shots!
Corals look good.
have all 'hurdles' been cleared for display tank take off?

Not yet. We have a budget set so I think that's a start. I hope to finish the stand this week. I bought a new router and sander now to get forums to do it. I might take a day or 2 off work to get this to come together now.

Couple more pictures with no editing from my phone. This is a wd.

This one is turning super red. It's not the best picture because of something on the glass but I'll share it

Nice!
Where'd you get a wd in Canada!?! I'm getting all whored up!!
Do you have a Samsung phone? Your shots are not overly blue like iPhone shots tend to be.
They remind me of Daniel's pics from his Note.

I live in the U.S. Siant Louis Missouri. I've been cutting on mine too. That's one of 3 colonies I keep. It's a good coral to trade with and get store credit around here still. I do have a note 5. I use the pro and have it tweaked pretty good the first picture is under t5s and blue leds and the second is a 250watt radium with reef bright blue leds. I like to experiment with the two different types of lighting to see what color corals become under them.

Right.. d'oh. I mixed you up with someone else..
Yeah, that Note takes a very nice picture.
Well, you certainly can't go wrong with either types of light, in general.

I've lost about half my coral but things are leveling out. Most of my favorites are dead. Sad times. But it has pushed me to get going again.

Now that the bad news is out of the way I ordered a canopy and it should be in next weekend! I'm going to get all the values and plumbing purchased to plumb it up asap. I'm going with 2 Sea swirls on the returns and am wondering if I should put valves in line. In thinking yes for maintenance and flow purposes.

Do you guys think I should cycle the tank by itself or just tie it into the system and go with it? I have no preference as I have all the time in the world.

I would say just tie it and and you should be gtg. The system you're adding it to has more volume than you're adding.

sorry to hear about the corals, why did you lose half of them?

Dinoflagellates. I did lights out and ran carbon. When the lights came back on bam my nitrates sky rocketed. Normal range of near 5 all the way to over a 100. Barely any po4. I took some drastic measures as I was about to leave for a week. And wanted my nutrients back in check.

I turned my calcium reactor way down but it wasn't enough my alk climbed to 11 from the normal range of around 7. These 2 combined to be catastrophic. I bet the deaths keep coming for a month or so.

Man that is really tough. I know how you feel on the alk burn, mine went from 7.5-8 to at least 10. it has been over 3 weeks and I am still seeing the affects, lost pretty much everything too.

I posted a couple of questions on your thread. You're tank is pretty new too. I'm guessing this factored in more than we might think.

Sorry to hear about your troubles!! You've had more hard times than most with sticks:(

Dinos are bad news and the cure is sometimes worse than the illness. Have you considered getting a tank sitter next time you go on vacation? I know you had some really high dollar stuff, hope some of it survives.
