I have a 36g bowfront tank/Fluval 306 filter/30lbs of live rock/No sump/No Skimmer. I have had the tank running for about a week, LFS owner told me to get 5 snails and 5 hermits, so I did. LFS also filled my tank with 36g of water from their est. 250g reef tank. Plan on making this a reef tank, Don't know if I am in a good or bad starting position, tank seems to be cycling well for now. So......

Actual Inhabitants:
5 snails
5 hermits
(Noticed a bunch of new creatures coming out of the LR, have a few things that look like slugs, I noticed some worms(white with spiny things) a couple tiny starfish, and some tiny shrimp looking creatures that are very fast and I only saw them at night)

Wish List:
2 clowns depending on species, this may or mayh not work; peaceful ones will work, highly aggressive ones will not
six line wrasse aggressive, not recommended and not compatible with firefish
fire shrimp
royal gramma basslet
firefish should go in first once cycled
watchman goby
assorted corals
(looking for a good assortment of color, yet I don't want to overstock not sure if this is too much or I can go more, all info appreciated)

It's not going to be suggested by nearly anyone here to put 3 hippo tangs in a 90 gallon tank. They grow large (one foot long) and need lots of swimming room.

Most people suggest that 180 gallons is minimum for 1 blue tang, 90 and 3 is a bad idea unless you have a running 400 gallon tank you're moving them to when they start to grow.

This is an expert thread answered by reef central staff. While we encourage your participation elsewhere, we would greatly appreciate your not answering this thread. Thanks in advance for your cooperation

My current tank has the following inhabitants:

2 small yellow tail damsels
1 small/med blue fin damsel damsels are aggressive towards other fish; not recommended
1 small/med Hippo Tang (intend to catch and place in sump prior to introducing the other 2) RC recommended tank size for Hepatus tangs is 240 gallons
Coral Banded star small Coral banded shrimp (I assume you mean shrimp) can take fish
Green Serpent star Large
2 Peppermint shrimps

Slightly changing plan. Want to check it again.

75 gallon w/ live rock
29 gallon sump/refugium
Want it to be a reef with beginner corals

2 Ocellaris Clownfish
1 Royal Gamma
1 Yellow Watchman Goby
1 Banggai Cardinalfish
1 Longfin Fairy Wrasse
1 Kole Yellow Eye Tang
1 Green Mandarin wait until tank is 9 months old

2 Skunk Cleaner Shrimp
Lots of Snails

Not looking to add more, but how am I for bioload?

bioload is ok, but not light

I'm thinking its pretty maxed out. Might take out the Cardinalfish if it is one the high side.

Thanks

Thanks snorvich! Also got to say thanks for doing this thread. I check this thread everyday and learn a lot just by seeing your comments on everyone's stocking list.

200 Gal Mixed Reef Tank

200 Gal Mixed Reef Tank

Hi everyone !!

(first of all... excuse my writing)

Im planning to set a 200 Gal mixed reef tank and this is the stocklist I want:

3 Fem Evansi Anthias
3 Fem Lyretail Anthias (if I can get carberry wold be a variant because I want mainly orange colors)
1 Male Lyretail Anthias (or carberry )
1 Male/female Tiger Queen Anthias
1 Flame Angel
3 Firefish (Nemateleotris magnifica)
1 Yellow Tang
1 Achilles tang (at last)
1 Fox Face
1 Red Head Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus solorensis)
1 Yellow Coris
1 Cleaner wrasse
2 Cardinal Bangai (hope a mate)
2 Ocelaris clown
1 Royal Gramma
1 Blue Jaw Trigger

Inverts:
1 Blue sea star lickia
1 Marble sea star
2or3 Maxima Clams

I know... they are too many fishes and they might seem overcrowded but I really want much movement on the tank.

Im planning to buy a SRO-5000 to manage the bioload, plus a lot of live rock, and ATS.

Is this a dream or I can keep this stocklist?

Running a 55 gallon with 100lbs of live rock. Live stock consists of, 1 Cleaner Chrimp, 2 Clowns, 1 Hippo Tang, and 1 Diamond Watch Goby.

I'm looking to keep it as a peaceful community tank. Thinking of throwing in a yellow tang, flame angel and some blue chromis. Possibly some cardinals, royal gramas (sp?), or some orange firefish goby's.

I'm not saying I'm going to throw all those in one tank, but, those are the options I'm keeping open as what I want to add later.

Hi everyone !!

(first of all... excuse my writing)

Im planning to set a 200 Gal mixed reef tank and this is the stocklist I want:

3 Fem Evansi Anthias a bit more difficult feeding
3 Fem Lyretail Anthias (if I can get carberry wold be a variant because I want mainly orange colors)
1 Male Lyretail Anthias (or carberry )
1 Male/female Tiger Queen Anthias needs almost continuous feeding
1 Flame Angel
3 Firefish (Nemateleotris magnifica) a M + F pair would work, three will likely not work long term
1 Yellow Tang
1 Achilles tang (at last)
1 Fox Face
1 Red Head Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus solorensis)
1 Yellow Coris
1 Cleaner wrasse not recommended; survival rate is poor and has no value for parasite prevention.
2 Cardinal Bangai (hope a mate)
2 Ocelaris clown
1 Royal Gramma
1 Blue Jaw Trigger

Inverts:
1 Blue sea star lickia
1 Marble sea star
2or3 Maxima Clams

yes, it will seem overcrowded

the RC tank size recommendation for a hepatus tang is 240 gallons.

I'm looking to keep it as a peaceful community tank. Thinking of throwing in a yellow tang, flame angel and some blue chromis. Possibly some cardinals, royal gramas (sp?), or some orange firefish goby's.

multiple tangs will not be peaceful. Your stocking list will greatly overcrowd your tank

I'm not saying I'm going to throw all those in one tank, but, those are the options I'm keeping open as what I want to add later.

Thank you for the reply. :spin3:

I do realize and have seen many people warn others about having a hippo tang in a 55 gallon. I plan on keeping it for a while and then transfer it over to a bigger tank later on.

The stocking list I provided was only a general idea but I'm certainly not going to throw all those in there because that's way to overstocked. I just want to keep a nice, decent and peaceful community tank.

Sorry I think I was missed.

How about the following in a JBJ 28g Nano:

Firefish Goby
Royal Gramma
Ocellaris Clown
6 Line Wrasse

Thank You

Steve thanks for your assistance. I have followed your advice since I started a couple years ago and no problems. I really appreciate your time thanks again for this thread.

Long time listener, first time caller. I have a 60x36x18 170g tank I'm cycling right now. So not terribly long but almost as much sq footage as a standard dimension 240g (15sqft as opposed to 16) I have the following;
1. One spot FF 3 1/2-4"
2. Mag FF 4"
3. Chevron T 3-3 1/2"
4. Blue T 1 1/2-2"
Looking to add
1. Blue jaw/throat trigger.
2. 3 purple tangs OR 2 more Chevrons

The more tangs and grazers you add, the greater the probability of problems becomes. Certainly adding multiple zebrasoma tangs is likely to end poorly. Sorry if I missed this post initially. I have my pages set up differently than most and when multiple posts cause page changes, I occasionally miss one. So sorry! :(

I have an H&S skimmer rated for 220g but will be purchasing a skimmer that will more than keep up with bio load.
My questions are-
1. Is this list ok?
2. If it is, would there be room for any small, schooling fish?

There are no true schooling fish in our sized tanks, the closest is some species (red spot) of cardinal fish.

You are most welcome. I always welcome feedback on the effectiveness (or lack thereof) of my advice.
