Narrowed my list to the firefish, gramma, anthias and a mandarin. I know you don't like to make fish recommendations but there are so many different anthias and it appears that some are more difficult to feed and also eat pods which could be an obvious problem. I am pretty familiar with the needs of a mandarin having had one for a year or so. Fat and happy, eating prepared foods and one day he is a dead. I had an emerald crab in the tank and I often wonder it he snagged him while asleep. I am thinking of skipping the expensive ORA mandarin and getting a wc instead for about 1/3 the price.
Regards

In your sized tank, a wild caught mandarin should do fine, especially if you have a producing refugium. Anthias I like include: carberryi and resplendent. If feel they are moderate care. I do not trust crabs including emerald crabs

I have a 75 gal. display with a 20 gal. sump. Also about 75 lbs. of rock and a protein skimmer in the sump. Right now I have a Royal Gramma a blue chromis a pink spot Blenny and a pygmy angel. Do you think I could add two Clowns to this mix? Thanks

If you have docile clowns (comparatively, none are really peaceful once sexually matdure) you should be ok.

Hi all,

Planning a 29 gallon BioCube

1 green Chromis or 1 Blue Damselfish
2 Tank Bread Clowns (Nemo's) these are a must

Possibly another fish depending on what you guys think. I have 20 lbs of live sand and will have 20 lbs of live rock by Wednesday. I am not planning any coral at this time. the tank has the stock lights, pump and a 425 gph extra pump for circulation.

I'll do the standard clean up crew of a shrimp, somer hermits, and a couple snails.

Thank you.

The clownfish will become aggressive once they are sexually mature. Chromis or damsels will not be happy long term in a small tank with a mating pair of clowns. You could do a goby pistol shrimp.

Would you recommend only one clown? Then could I have both the chromis and damsel.

The single clownfish will eventually become female. Damselfish are also unfortunately aggressive. If clownfish are the primary focus, get a pair of clowns and small bottom dwellers.

What fish could a pair with two clowns?

A firefish work? I would like to have 4 total fish.

Thanks for the help with my inexperience.

Thanks.

First Fish

Hi all, I have a ~35 G tank with about 20 Lbs of LR and 40+ Lbs sand, the 10 gallon 'fuge is loaded with mud and sand mix (3 inches deep) a little LR and cheato alge and a small ball of red alge that came with it. I keep morte LR in the return section just because.

I have a small assortment of snails (about 15 total) and red and blue leaged hermits (about 10) plus 2 shrimp for the CUC.

So now inorder to "justify" to my G/F the time and money invested, I need something something that will "pop"against the black background, I'm thinking yellow tang and/or damsel fish, any thing else that is bright, hardy (and "cheap")?

No tang would work in your sized tank. I cannot really answer that type of question since cheap is a very subjective term.

Hi Steve,

Setting up a 28g nano with 30lbs live rock and standard cuc. Plans are for some zoas and mushrooms eventually

For fish, thinking:

Goby - Yellow watchman?
Royal gramma (or bicolor dottyback?)
Firefish
Dwarf angel (really like the multicolor angel, or flame) as centerpiece of the tank

Thanks for taking the time to help out everyone!

Royal gramma (or bicolor dottyback?) Both are aggressive, the dottyback more so.
Firefish
Dwarf angel (really like the multicolor angel, or flame) as centerpiece of the tank Multicolor is excellent and has a 50% change of being reef safe

My pleasure. I am always happy when you are successful!

Thank you very much...sounds like I am on the right track.

Are there any wrasses that I could use in place of the royal gramma or am I asking for trouble? If not a wrasse, can you point me in a direction for alternatives? The more color the better.

Also, would I add the livestock in the order I listed them?

And again, thank you very much Steve!

I have a 120 gal tall. 30 gal sump w/refugium. 80lb of sand and live rock. I only have a Xenia. I will be at four weeks on this Friday. I want a pair of clowns, something yellow, a Tang will do. At least one pigmy angel if I can't have two. Several wrasse and school of something interesting. And finally a Madarin by my son's request. Will these work and is there another Tang one something similarly sized that I can get that will be compatible with this list? Also what order should I get them in? Would you recommend any cleaner stock(snails etc) ? I will probably do corals in the near future as well. I have done freshwater for a year and that tank is fairly self maintaining. I want a complete ecological marine system as well.

Thanks.

I am still in the planning stages on my 210 gallon 60x30x27

the tank will be all marine planted. little to no coral.

How many Gobies could i keep in that size tank and what kinds cannot share a tank that size.

the must have gobies are tiger watchman, two spot.

the only other fish that i have is a pair of tomato clowns.

Well, you might look at possum wrasses. A very interesting behavior although not brightly colored.
