As those who follow this thread know, we do not provided recommendations for a variety of reasons. We are always happy, however, to review stocking plans and tanks for compatibility

Got it..thanks I will compile a list of fish and post it up for best compatibility...how many fish can i put in here and im not looking to over crowd/overstock

30gallon reef tank with 25lbs live rock.
This is what i have so far

2 ocellaris clowns
1 royal gramma
1 skunk cleaner shrimp
1 peppermint shrimp
1 bristle starfish
1 mexican turbo snail
5 nass. snails
2 hermit crabs
Also noticed recently I have a black spine urchin who hitchhiked on my rock

a few corals, 2 different zoa's. Green star polyps, Green buttons.
somehow I bought some fl base rock and now I have a small patch of blue clove polpys growing as well.

Im looking to add another fish.
I was thinking about a wrasse(would he kill my other tank mates?)
or could I put a dottyback in there or would he be bad news?

Was also considering a goby or some type of blenny.

Of the fish I mentioned which is the most safe for my tankmates and my corals and my live rock? Want something that wont kill or destroy anything

This is a 34 gallon tank? If not, what gallonage? Behavioral issues will be the binding constraint although territorial imperative will come into play as well.

behaviorally very aggressive

Let me know what you all think. My tank has been running for about 6 months now and I have been trying to go nice and slow. I also havent had the dollars to get the fish yet, just the one below, so this will be a nice investment for me.

Tank Specs: 120 Gallon, with 30 Gallon Sump. ATS 160 Skimmer, Phosphate reactor, 100 lbs of live rock and plenty of good hiding spaces, and live sand.

Potential New Inhabitants
Current - Just a Six Line Wrasse, Coral Banded (yes he makes me kind of nervous), 2 emerald crabs, and lots of snails and crabs

Wish List:
Mated Pair of O Clowns
1 Kole Tank
1 Blue Tang
1 Bi-Colored Blenny
1 Diamond Goby
5 Firefish to school
3 Dispar Anthias
1 Peppermint shrimp

Does they all play nice and will this work out? Also I was thinking of getting them all at once on LiveAquaria so I dont have to pay shipping, will that work? I know I need to be slow and intro them at different times, but doesnt that still matter?

Thanks in advance all!

this thread is answered only by Reef Central Staff. If you wish general discussion, post the question in Reef Fish.

Current - Just a Six Line Wrasse, Coral Banded (yes he makes me kind of nervous), 2 emerald crabs, and lots of snails and crabs A sixline wrasse will limit future tank mates due to its aggressive nature. A Coral Banded Shrimp can take fish. Emerald crabs when mature can also take fish.

Wish List:
Mated Pair of O Clowns
1 Kole Tank fine
1 Blue Tangneeds a much larger tank
1 Bi-Colored Blenny fine
1 Diamond Goby fine
5 Firefish to school will become one but not immediately
3 Dispar Anthias fine
1 Peppermint shrimp fine

Some good algea eaters...

Some good algea eaters...

My signature is current and accurate in terms of what I have in the tank at present. Right now I'm fighting a pretty serious outbreak of hair algae and my testing is showing 0 NO3 and near 0 PO4. I recently introduced the Foxface and he is starting to show an interest in the hair algae but I think he could use some help. I like the idea of having some algae eaters in the tank to handle this naturally so I'm on the hunt for more.

Just FYI... I also have a fuge online growing cheato and calurpa, but obviously the problem still exists in the tank.

Now for the fish selection... I'm currently looking to add a Starry Blenny to the tank in the hopes that he'll help to keep the algae under control. In addition, I've been wanting to get an Exquisite Fairy Wrasse for quite some time now. I understand that he is a carnivore and so most likely won't touch the algae, but they do look pretty awesome.

Thanks in advance for the feedback. Any other algae eater suggestions? I have an aversion to tangs as we had one introduce ich to the tank and wipe out most of the tank about 2 years ago.

Current Tank Info: 120 gal with 40B sump with fuge, pair of black Occellaris Clowns, purple Firefish, Coral Banded Shrimp, Foxface coral banded can take fish; foxface is an excellent algae eater

You are not testing positive for N03 because it is all contained in your hair algae!

Sorry for the double post, but...

Sorry for the double post, but...

I posted this in another part of the New to the Hobby forum, but since one of the questions pertains to stocking advice, I thought maybe this would be a good place to post it as well. Hope this is not an issue. I've edited it so that only the fish compatibility part is posted, for the purposes of this forum. Thanks! My post:

Hello, all... My name is Rich. I've been keeping freshwater aquariums for about 25 years, and finally made the leap to salt. I have a 6 ft. 125 gallon running right now with approx. 150 lbs. live rock. Not running any filters. Just a wavemaker and a power head to move the water around the tank. Basically just transferred someone else's established system into one of my empty setups. The fish I currently have are:

2 clown fish (don't know the specific variety, but can post pics)

2 blue damsels

1 striped damsel

1 banggai cardinalfish

1 serpent starfish

The tank has been up and running for two weeks now, everyone seems happy... so far. This tank is a work-in-progress. I plan to add more live rock, and more sand as well (I think). I am also running a 48" Deep Blue Solarmax T5 HE light fixture running a 10,000k white light and a blue actinic light. Not sufficient for where I want to eventually be, but will do for the short term. Well, those are the basics of my tank. On to the questions:

After I add more live rock, and perhaps upgrade my lights, I plan to add more fish. Suggestions on fish that are compatible with what I have so far? I want activity all over the tank, I want fish that are reef safe, as I hope to have plenty of interesting critters and eventually easy to care for, non-demanding soft corals. So, fish that won't harm these things.

Those are my specific questions for now, but please feel free to comment further in any way that could help me be successful. Thanks in advance, everyone... and looking forward to learning a lot on this forum as I continue on this new venture in my fishkeeping hobby!

Assessment of compatibility is difficult in the short term; nothing good happens quickly in this hobby

Got it, and thanks. One thing I did fail to mention, I inherited these fish from an already established setup. I have not personally added any livestock on my own yet. I want to make sure I have everything stabilized and I am fully confident in what I am doing before I start arbitrarily adding anything. So, as mentioned in my other thread, the damsels will need to go. I can keep the clowns though, correct?

I will do some more research on fish, to figure out first what is reef safe and what is not. Thanks!

If the damsels go, that would be helpful going forward. The clownfish, depending on species should be fine. Describe what they look like?
