They get that big? Marine bettas can eat a fairy wrasse?

They get to be about 8 inches mature length. Whether they can eat a fairy wrasse or other fish is undetermined. I simply never keep fish that can eat other fish nor do I try to provide analysis about the likely possibility or not thereof.

Hi snorvich,

Just wanted to see what you think about adding one of the following options in a 90g tank, 48x18x24. This is a mixed reef with SPS/LPS/softies and a clam.

Options:
1. a rabbitfish (One Spot or Lo)
2. yellow tang
3. 3-5 anthias (bartlett's or lyretail)

Inhabitants:
kole yellow eye tang
pair of ocellaris clowns
McCosker's wrassse
Lubbock's fairy wrasse
yellow coris wrasse
tailspot blenny
yellow watchman/tiger pistol pair
2 cleaner shrimp

Hey, I have a list of fish that I think are really cool and would be putting in a predator tank. the tank is a 75g tank. Skimmer rated for 125 gallons, filter rated for 100 gallons and ~70 lbs of live rock. The fish are
Marine Betta
Harlequin or Hardwicke wrasse
miniatus or red flag grouper
potters or flame angel
blue spotted puffer
axil spotted hogfish
and possibly a radiata lionfish
I understand not all these would fit (obviously) but I just want to get an estimate of which ones will fit, then go from there. If the fish don't grow too fast then I also plan on upgrading to a 180 in about a year so they would be transferred over. Thanks

Options:
1. a rabbitfish (One Spot or Lo) a rabbitfish needs a much larger tank
2. yellow tang a zebrasoma tank mixed with your current tang is too many algae grazers in a moderately sized tank
3. 3-5 anthias (bartlett's or lyretail) anthias need to be fed multiple times per day for best results; while anthias would do better in a group if your tank was longer, one would be fine

Inhabitants:
kole yellow eye tang
pair of ocellaris clowns
McCosker's wrassse
Lubbock's fairy wrasse
yellow coris wrasse
tailspot blenny
yellow watchman/tiger pistol pair
2 cleaner shrimp

sorry, I do not provide analysis of predator community tanks. Best to post your question here.

Hi Steve,

Tank inhabitants:

Bicolor blenny
4x PJ Cardinals
Hoeven's Wrasse
Royal Gramma

48x24x26"

Royal Gramma just added. Slightly larger than the blenny. Unexpectedly aggressive toward Bicolor blenny. Maybe I should have anticipated this as shape and color pattern are similar.

In your experience will this settle down or end badly fir the blenny, which would be too bad as it was the first tank occupant.

Thank you.

Hey, want some feedback on my stocking plan for a 75 (+20L sump/fuge) gallon reef. Tank just finished its cycle. Diatom bloom is just starting, seeing some brown on my LR and low flow areas of sand.
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite:0
Nitrate: ~1-3
Temp: 80
ph: ~8.0-8.2

Current Fauna:
4x Blue-Green Reef Chromis
2x Turbo Snail
5x Cerith Snail

Here's what else I want to add:
1x Kole Tang
1x Bartlett's Anthias
1x Carpenter Flasher Wrasse or similar
1x Diamond Goby
1x Green Mandarin (once pod population is suitable)
More CuC as tank progresses (snail only no crabs or shrimp)

Anyone see any compatibility issues? At that stocking level, how stocked is my tank?

Thanks

I think it will subside over time. Best to always add via acclimation box, or if not using one, add just before lights out.

4x Blue-Green Reef Chromis cycling with live fish is not good practice. Four will become one over time.

I currently have a 46 gal bowfront with no sump or skimmer. I currently have a clownfish pair, one neon dottyback and one yellowtail damsel. There isn't much fish movement in the tank and I have quite a bit of algae in the tank. I will be upgrading to my 265 gal tank in a few months but in the meantime I was thinking of getting a small foxface at the LFS to help with algae and to give some movement in the tank. The clowns have in the past been very aggresive to some new fish so I have been hesitating getting a new fish, but I thought with the foxface and its spines it will be ok. What are your thoughts on this plan?

Thanks for the help.

I always hesitate to put fish into a tank expecting an upgrade since upgrades rarely happen as expected. The spines of a foxface keep it from being eaten, but not fish in your existing tank will attempt that. Algae is a function of over feeding, I think I would fix that problem rather than attempt to "get around" fixing it. A lawnmower blenny will work on algae but again, that is getting around a problem rather than fixing it.

Wanting to add one more (showcase) fish to my 60gal cube. Also going to add some more LR to my sump b/c we don't have nearly enough right now. Current inhabitants are:
2 x occ clowns
1 x diamond watchman goby
1 x mccaskers wrasse

2 x cleaner shrimp
1 x peppermint shrimp
3 x zebra turbo snails
3 x tiny hermits

I'm thinking a yellow angel or some other type of dwarf angel. Would this be too much for this size tank? Thank you!

You are on the borderline. If your tank is reasonably mature and is creating enough algae for an algae grazer (6-9 months), you could probably get away with one of the easier and less aggressive dwarf angels. Know, however, that no dwarf angel is totally coral safe.

Funny, I am actually shutting the lights off starting today trying to get rid of my algae... thank you!
