Hi Sk8r & snorvich,

I have a 9 1/2 year old 55-gal FOWLR..

I just lost a 9 1/2 year old blue tang due to my chiller resetting itself way to cold after a power failure while I was out of town on a trip.

The chiller had reset itself to 67 degrees and it was winning against the heater.

The other fish survived. Remaining now are:

1 Klein Butterfly
1 ocellaris clown
2 blue damsels

Can any fish be added to the tank?

I'd love to have some color and variety, esp a sand-sifting goby and an anemone.

Or do I need to get rid of the Klein, which I'd rather not do. The Klein went in over 5 years ago to combat aptasia, which hasn't been a problem since.

Your thoughts, please.

Thank you.

Sk8r does not answer this thread; I have been doing so for nearly 5 years. I doubt that you need a chiller unless you are running metal halides. I tend to run my tanks from 74-77F but tanks run fine as high as 81F. The damsels are more likely going to limit fish that you can add to the tank. The Klein butterfly should be fine. I would not look at tangs as they require a larger tank for success. There are various wrasses that would work and other small fish would do fine.

Thank you.

Hi snorvich... hoping this can work (only thing currently in the tank is the pair of clowns and the serpent starfish... the others are the planned additions, pending your insight):

6 ft. 125 gallons, about 200 lbs. live rock

pair of false percula clowns

1 serpent starfish

1 six line wrasse

1 watchman goby

1 green banded goby

1 brittle sea starfish

1 blue tang

Thanks in advance for your input!

1 serpent starfish

1 six line wrasse aggressive; will limit tank mates

1 watchman goby

1 green banded goby

1 brittle sea starfish not green

1 blue tang needs a much larger (longer) tank; there are tangs that would work, but not this one

Thanks in advance for your input!

Capacity without coast to coast overflow
(Fish Swim Room 75g tank)
30g sump
Good skimmer
Reactor
Mixed reef

Fish I have:
1) Purple Firefish (Hides due to friendly fairy wrasse activity)
1) Yasha Goby (comes out more after putting wrasse in)
1) Yellow Watchmen
1) Pistol shrimp
1) Orange-Back Fairy Wrasse
2) Yellow Corris Wrasse

When I added the wrasse the purple firefish started to hide a lot, still eating however.

I like how the three wrasse hang out and swim all day in the water column.

I'm trying to come up with an idea for more fish.

Ideas so far:
5) Zebra Barred Dartfish, however I'm wondering if they will hide a lot?

or

2) Ocellaris Clowns, but I'm wondering if they host the torch coral then the torch breaks a tentacle loose like a fire ball through the tank.

Looking for peaceful fish, any ideas and or suggestions?

T.Y. in advance.

This will either get better or worse and the firefish will stop eating

They will be somewhat reclusive

or

Clownfish may or may not associate with a coral (the coral hosts) and if they do, they may damage it.

As those who follow this thread know, I do not provide recommendations for a variety of reasons. However I am always happy to reanalyze any stocking plan provided current inhabitants and tank size are provided.

T.Y. in advance.

Hi Steve

I am thinking of adding a Midas Blenny to a 55gal tank which also has a Red Spotted Blenny and Orchid Dottyback.

Would they get along ok?

cheers
Tim

Two blennies in a 55 gallon tank will most likely not work. P. fridmani should not be a problem, however.

Thinking about one or some of these fish:
1) Orchid Dottyback, Captive-Bred (Pseudochromis fridmani)
Will the fridmani make the Yasha Goby hide?
OR
1) Royal Grama
And Or
1) Flame Angelfish (Centropyge loricula)
OR
1) Coral Beauty Angelfish (Centropyge bispinosa)
OR
1) Ignitus Anthias (Pseudanthias ignitus)
OR
1) Dispar Anthias (Pseudanthias dispar)
5) Yellowstriped Cardinalfish (Ostorhinchus cyanosoma)

We talked about the Zebra Barred Dartfish, and you mentioned they would be somewhat reclusive. Do you think it would make the purple firefish more of less comfortable?

Of course not all these fish, but if you see a slot where more than on fit please mention it.
Any advice on which route to go much appreciated!

I cannot "process" and/or types of analysis; just too complex. If you provide a list of existing plus adds, I can tell you if it would work.

Add these fish:
1) Orchid Dottyback, Captive-Bred (Pseudochromis fridmani) Even though P. pseudochromis is the least aggressive dottyback, it may negative react wit the fairy wrasse and/or firefish
1) Ignitus Anthias (Pseudanthias ignitus)
1) Flame Angelfish (Centropyge loricula)
2) Yellowstriped Cardinalfish (Ostorhinchus cyanosoma)

Otherwise, fine

Should I worry about the Flame Angelfish and corals? I have Stylophora, Montipora, Setosa, Hawkins, Zoa's, Feather Duster, Eucaphila's and whatnot.

Dwarf angels are risky with corals. They may work for a while, may not work from the beginning, or may be initially ok and then develop a taste.

Would a Royal Grama be a fish that would blend well with these fish?

1) Purple Firefish
1) Yasha Goby
1) Yellow Watchmen
1) Pistol shrimp
1) Orange-Back Fairy Wrasse
2) Yellow Corris Wrasse
1) Ignitus Anthias (Pseudanthias ignitus)
2) Yellowstriped Cardinalfish (Ostorhinchus cyanosoma)

Should work fine

Before you said multiple firefish wouldn't work.
In my 48" 80 gal, would a trio of scissortail dartfish work?

With:
(1) Tomini Tang
(1) Mandarin (at least 9 months)
(1) Anthias - Carberryi or Resplendent
(1) Yellow tail reef basslet - Liopropoma mitratum

I'm about ready to start cycling my 40 breeder and would like to make sure my intended fish list (and the order I plan on adding them) will be ok. I'm planning on not running a skimmer for now (may get one if I decide to go SPS) but will have 2/3 of a 20 long as a DSB with algae plus about 50 lbs live rock for filtration.

Intended fish list and purchase order:
Nemateleotris Magnifica "Firefish"
Serranus Tortugarum "Chalk Bass"
Sphaeramia Nematoptera "Pajama Cardinal" (pair)
Gobiodon Okinawae "Yellow Clown Goby" (Can I add one of these earlier before having much coral in the tank?)
Amphiprion Ocellaris "Ocellaris Clownfish" (pair)

Thanks!
