Ok, I didn't Qt my last fish and got ich. Killed all but 2 of my fish.

While beyond the scope of this thread, based on the mortality level, you likely had velvet rather than ich. Whatever fish survived need to be treated as they are likely still carrying that parasite.

I've learned my lesson and will always Qt my new fish.

All quarantine protocols are not created equal. You might check my blog for information on a suggested protocol.

So looking forward to when the tank is done being fallow and stocking new fish.

Currently have in Qt:
Pajama Cardinal
Blue/Green Chromis

Was thinking about:

Midas Blenny
Clown Goby
2 False Perclula Clownfish
Royal Gramma

Would this work? Yes, it should be fine

Thinking of stocking in this order order is fine as well.

Pajama Cardinal and Blue/Green Chromis
Clown Goby
Midas Blenny
Royal Gramma
2 False Perclula Clownfish

Revised planned stocklist:

6 ft. 125 gallons, about 200 lbs. live rock

pair of false percula clowns (already have these)

1 serpent starfish (already have this)

1 six line wrasse (possibly add last, or better to just not add, understanding I'd probably not be able to add more fish after this one?) It will limit tank mates no matter when added

1 watchman goby

1 green banded goby

1 royal gramma basslet

1 powder blue tang (not be confused with blue tang)

1 azure damsel

1 yellowtail damsel

1 Rolland's or Starcki damsel

Group of peppermint shrimp

1 coral banded shrimp can take fish

As-yet-to-be-determined clean up crew

As far as I can tell, there is not really an angelfish, butterfly or foxface/rabbit species that can be truly considered "reef safe". Am I incorrect in that? If so, I'll keep researching. Thanks again! A foxface, if fed well is reef safe but if not fed properly, will much on corals.

I am not a fan of damsels due to their aggression which limits tank mates. The stocking plan, should work, however.

Thanks, snorvich! Much appreciated! I'm going to drop the coral banded shrimp and give good thought to dealing with this wrasse before pulling the trigger. This thread is greatly appreciated.

Hey Steve,
I took in a rescue bi-coloured pseudo chromis a year ago or so and put him in my 77 gal DT. Then one of my friends tank broke so I set up a emergency tank for a bunch of her fish and shrimp. They've since decided to take a year's break or so. So now I'm a bit stuck with a 3rd tank up and running I really don't want to run.
Question:
If I stick a cleaner shrimp and CBS in my main DT, what are the chances the bi colour will make a meal of them?

Ok, second attempt!

Firefish
Pajama Cardinal Pair
Yellow Clown Goby
Ocellaris Clownfish Pair

Instead of a Chalk Bass how about a Pink Spotted or Orange Spotted Goby? That would give me a bottom region fish anyways. And would introduction order matter much with this list? They should all be pretty tame fish and I'm planning on adding Clownfish pair last (if at all).

Also curious if you could provide any insight as to how heavy of a bio load this stocking list would provide without a skimmer. (40 breeder w/50 lbs live rock and 2/3 of a 20 long DSB Fuge).

Thanks again for taking the time to help us keep fish alive and happy!

CBS can take fish but is too large for a pseudo chromis to take out. The primary problem with this fish is its mean/aggressive disposition towards other fish.

The two issues are not really related. A skimmer removes wasted protein from the water. Bioload is the biological capacity to convert ammonia to nitrite then to nitrate.

Proposed Fish stocking list

2 amphipron(sp) clarkii aggressive; will want to control about 50 gallons of tank space once sexually mature; they will limit tank mates going forward

1 pseudochromis frimada

clownfish last; the others make little difference

It's hard going to the LFS without this thread in my back pocket. :)

29 Biocube, LR, LS, cycled and CUC all doing well. Parameters good and stable.

On Wednesday, picked up:
1 - Ocellaris Clown
and, I thought
1 - Psuedochromis frimanda, but now I believe it is P. porphyreus

will I have a problem adding:
1 - Banggai Cardinalfish
1 - Clown goby

I am concerned the clown goby might be harassed. Would I be better off with another goby or a blenny?

Thanks in advance.

A large difference in the level of aggressiveness of these two dottybacks; P. fridmani is the least aggressive of the pseudochromis

1 - Clown goby

Thanks in advance.

adding another clown

adding another clown

i had a pair of snow onxy clownfish Unfortanlly one of them jumped out of my tank. i have now have a lid on the tank. (i was told they wouldnt jump by the LFS guy) i wanted to buy another clown. (my gf thinks he is lonely)
my question is should i get a clown of similar size or is it better to get one smaller Also he is the only fish in the tank. Should i introduce another fish such as a royal gamma or paj card to ease the aggession a little .

my tank is a 29 gallon

Looking for suggestions to finish stocking a 29g reef tank. Tank has been running since October, the Purple Pseudo was QT'd and added in November, the Clown is in QT now with appx. 2 weeks left to go.

Tank Specs:

29G Aqueon Tank
2 x Hydor Koralia 420 Powerheads
1 x Hydor Slim Skim Nano
30 lbs BRS Macro Rock
1 x Aquaclear 50 running carbon and RowaPhos
Lighting: 6500k CFL for now.
20 lbs "Live" sand

Current Occupants:

1 x Purple Pseudochromis
1 x Ocellaris Clownfish (In QT)
3 x Red Leg Hermits
3 x Blue Leg Hermits
4 x Nass. Snails
4 x Turbo Snails

The purple pseudochromis was my first fish and in hindsight, may have been a poor decision. But, I suppose it's better thriving in my tank than rotting in the Petco store we bought it from. I understand it may be an issue.

I'm thinking one more fish tops and done. Perhaps a clown goby? Somebody also suggested a yellow watchman goby and a pistol shrimp, but I'm not sure. Any help appreciated! I'm not beyond moving the Purple Pseudo to it's own tank, just not really looking forward to it.

my question is should i get a clown of similar size or is it better to get one smaller Also he is the only fish in the tank. You need to purchase the smallest of the same species; same size would be a problem. All fish can jump; most will under the right circumstances Should i introduce another fish such as a royal gamma or paj card to ease the aggession a little . another fish would have no impact on introduction of a second clownfish

It will be a large issue in this sized tank and will limit further additions

Either of these additions would work but the watchman pistol shrimp combo would work best.

Hello, in the process of setting up my first reef tank. 75g with 20g sump, no fuge. About 70 lbs brs reef saver rock currently in the cooking process, shallow course sand bed. Planning on softies, mushrooms, and zoas.
Here is the stocking list I am thinking of:
- occellaris clown pair
- bicolor blenny
- kole tang
- possibly one other small fish, maybe a firefish
- cuc of some snails, skunk cleaner shrimp, and emerald crab.
Not really sure on the stocking order, thanks for any input.

Would a royal gramma work here?
