hi i want to get my first saltwater aquarium 50g Aqua reef (AquaReef195) and was wondering weather i could have a pair of ocellarias clown fish, lawnmower blenny, pair of red dartfish, 3 green chromis and maybe dwarf angel fish if its compatible with a reef. Do you think I've over stocked or is there any recommendations with my list.

thanks tom

If you subtract the chromis (which will become one over time in any case and are susceptible to uronema) and one firefish (two will not coexist unless a bonded pair) the plan works fine

I got my 5 Zebra Barred Dartfish.

Interesting some have a black thing that they deploy that goes down like a goatee.
Also some deploy their ventral fins down I think at the same time they deploy the goatee thing. This might be called Chin Barbel.

So far going on (3 days) the Purple Firefish has been hiding out.

Hi Steve -

I have a 3 foot cube (36" square) with a 30 inch cube with refugium sump. I estimate total gallons to be just under 150 based off the amount of salt it took to 1.025-6. It has approximately 100 lbs of rock in it in addition to 80lbs of sand (half "live" and have...dead.) The tank is currently cycling.

I currently have:

Bartlett's Anthias
2 neon blue gobies
2 bangai cardinal fish
4 Chalk Bass
Royal Gramma
3 yellow wrasse

I may or may not have a Yasha goby. I say may because I put him in 4 weeks ago and have yet to see him.

Is there any problem with adding a Dracula Goby with a paired red banded pistol shrimp?

If I place an emerald crab in the tank (currently have two in the sump) would that cause any problems?

In the future I intend to add a mandarin fish and possibly a Kole Yellow Eye tang. Any problems here? Is the tank big enough for the Tang? As far as I can tell, they seem to be the smallest tangs. Keep in mind it is a 3 foot cube so not a long narrow tank.

Thanks for any input!!!!

Not ideal because tangs tend to swim so length is key; possibly fine once the tank is mature

I know. I always prefer longer tanks for tangs but this species may work

Thanks for any input!!!!

Hello Steve,
Got the list ready,,

180g DT (6x2x2), 74g Refugium, 40g sump, skimmer rated for 300g

Thinking on just one each except for the Trios

Cryptocentrus cinctus (Yellow Prawn Goby)
Siganus magnificus (Magnificent Foxface) not sure on this one

Paracheilinus carpenteri (Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse)
Wetmorella tanakai (Tanaka's Pygmy Wrasse)

Liopropoma carmabi (Curacao Deepwater Candy Basslet)
Gramma loreto (Royal Gramma Basslet)

Ecsenius stigmatura (Tail Spot Blenny)

Chromis cyanea (Caribbean Blue Reef Chromis (Trio))

Ptereleotris evides (Scissortail Dartfish (Trio))
Ptereleotris heteroptera (Blue Gudgeon Dartfish (Trio))

Nemateleotris magnifica (Firefish)
Nemateleotris exquisita (Exquisite Firefish)

Pseudanthias ignitus (Ignitus Anthias)
Odontanthias borbonius (Blotched Anthias)
Serranocirrhitus latus (Fathead Sunburst Anthias)

I have them grouped in the order that I was thinking of adding them..
Not sure on that or if I will be overloaded...
DT will be a softie tank with some shrimp and snails (no crabs), any of the shrimp I need to stay away from, with what I am planning???

Thanks,
James

Cryptocentrus cinctus (Yellow Prawn Goby)

Paracheilinus carpenteri (Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse) you might consider adding either a female of this species or another flasher wrasse
Wetmorella tanakai (Tanaka's Pygmy Wrasse)

Liopropoma carmabi (Curacao Deepwater Candy Basslet)
Gramma loreto (Royal Gramma Basslet)

Ecsenius stigmatura (Tail Spot Blenny)

Chromis cyanea (Caribbean Blue Reef Chromis (Trio)) I am currently discouraging chromis because of their propensity for uronema; but three would become one over time in any case

Ptereleotris evides (Scissortail Dartfish (Trio))
Ptereleotris heteroptera (Blue Gudgeon Dartfish (Trio))

Nemateleotris magnifica (Firefish) Usually only one firefish is doable long term
Nemateleotris exquisita (Exquisite Firefish)

Pseudanthias ignitus (Ignitus Anthias)
Odontanthias borbonius (Blotched Anthias)
Serranocirrhitus latus (Fathead Sunburst Anthias)

Thanks,
James

Steve,
Would Sphaeramia nematoptera (Pajama Cardinalfish (Trio)) work in place of the chromis??

The suggestion on the wrasse, would that be adding a third wrasse or change out Paracheilinus carpenteri (Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse) with a different one??

Well since I am currently cycling my tank, I thought I would post up my desired stock :D. My tank is a 20G AIO TruVu tank and is 21*18*16 including the chambers. Here is my "wishlist":

Clownfish "Ocellaris" Pair
Firefish
Blue and yellow tail damsel
Randall Shrimp and Goby pair

Would this be sustainable?

Btw JamesHolt, love the sig :D! Are you ready for towel day??

Hello Steve and others,

I have a 57 gallon reef tank with 29 gallon sump which currently has 1 small ocellaris clown, 1 starry blenny, and 1 red scooter blenny. I am planning on adding a yellow head jawfish, and a flame angel. Maybe after these guys are settled in I may add a single banggai cardinal, but I don't want to push my bioload and cause excessive stress to all the inhabitants. I do have a fairly deep sand bed, 4+ inches.

The three current inhabitants are doing great, and I want to keep them happy and healthy. I tweaked my aquascaping yesterday to "accommodate" the jawfish, we will see how that goes:)

What does everyone think about the flame angel in a reef tank. Are they hard on soft corals, even if fed well?

A 20 gallon tank is marginally acceptable for a clownfish pair; other fish would not work because of the attitude of sexually mature clownfish.

Would this be sustainable?

As this thread is only answered by me, JameHold will not see this comment.

Hello Steve and others,

No others, just me. For general discussion you can always start your own thread in New to the Hobby.

The scooter blenny is actually a dragonet not a blenny and will have difficulty long term in this sized tank. The rest of your plan should work ok.

The three current inhabitants are doing great, and I want to keep them happy and healthy. I tweaked my aquascaping yesterday to "accommodate" the jawfish, we will see how that goes:)

flame angels are not coral safe; they may initially appear to be so but that could change over night

Hello everyone :) I am looking for some advise on what my last fish should be. Want to stay with a small peaceful fish, reef safe ect..

Current fish
Ocellaris Clownfish
Pair of Firefish

Thanks for the help ;)

Pair of Firefish only one is likely to survive long term unless you happened to get a bonded pair; one will likely go missing around the 4-5 month time frame.

Thanks for the help ;)

This thread is only answered by Reef Central Staff. As those who follow this thread know, I do not provide recommendations for a variety of reasons. I am always happy to analyze stocking plans as long as tank size and maturity are provided. That being said, in a 40 gallon tank with the existing stock, you should be able to select 2-4 peaceful fish that can exist in the ecological niche you are providing.

thanks for the info :) As for my Firefish, they are bonded. They never leave each others side, and also live in the same hole in my live rock. The bigger one is very protective of the smaller one. For example, the big one comes out of there hole first and checks out the surroundings. Then the big one goes back to get the smaller one. Happens every morning like clockwork, they have been a great edition to my tank. I understand about the recommendations, so I will post up what im considering for my next fishy.
