Hi snorvich,
I am considering getting a small Maxima, maybe 1.5 to 2 inches. I'm doing lots of research.
Will it be happy in my tank? Will by tank be happy with it??
Thanks!

Fish: Ocellaris Clown, B&W Clown, Firefish Goby, 6-Line Wrasse, Scarlet Skunk Cleaner Shrimp, Fire Shrimp, Corral Banded Shrimp, Peppermint Shrimp, Bristle Worms and CUC.
Reef: 150 lb. Sand, 70 lb. Rock, Frog Spawn, Button Polyps, Mushrooms, Kenya Trees, Brain, Leather Toadstool, Cheato and several aiptasias. . . .
Tank: 50g hex with overflow, 20um sock filter, 23 gal sump with DSB, 2 Rio 3100 return pumps, 3 in-tank circulators, 5 UH fluorescent, chiller 650, heater 150W, skimmer 65.
I got the tank on 7/18/2014 but it has been established for over 15 years!! -I added the larger sump after the "œroom" addition.
I do weekly water test and 5-10g changes.
pH 8.0, NH3 0, NO2 0, NO3 0-10, PO4 0, Ca 360-400, Alk76-8, 77-79F, sg 1.021-23

As this thread is only about marine fish compatibility, it would be best to create a thread in the clam forum.

New tank build 96"x33"x29", transferring from my current 160. Will I be able to add a blue face angel with my regal angel in the new tank if I let the regal established first?

Hi Steve,

I have a 75g tank with 30g sump. I have a fuge and what I recently discovered is a healthy pod population. I started the tank in August but ran hypo from mid-dec to mid-feb, it seems to have set the tank back a bit.

So far, I have:

2 Occ clowns
Flamehawk
Bicolor blenny
Firefish

I plan on adding a Kole tang, but first I'm thinking I'd like to get a melanurus wrasse. I love the colors of the male, but I hear females can stay a little smaller and less aggressive. I know my tank is the minimum size for a melanurus, so i'm wondering if I should get a female? Or do you think I'd be alright with a male?

The blue face is more aggressive than the regal; if the blue face is added after the regal, it should work fine.

Either would work

Hello, I have a 55 gallon tank with an emperor 400 powerfilter with biowheels. Right now it has 20 pounds of live sand 5 pounds of live rock and 40 pounds of base rock. Planning on slowly adding more sand and live rock. No protein skimmer and no power heads at the moment.

Right now I have:

2 ocellaris clowns and some tiny mushroom coral growing on one of my pieces of live rock.

I want to add:

2 neon gobies
1 fire fish
1 starry blenny
1 geometric pygmy perchlet
1 royal gramma
1 bangaii cardinal

In that order. Do you think this is too many fish? Could there be aggression problem between them? Do I need to get protein skimmer and power heads now? The lfs told me I would not need them until or unless I get corals. Also planning on adding cerith, nerite, nassarius snails, and dwarf hermits.

I am a believer in protein skimmers. If you want various snails do not also get hermit crabs as they will kill snails.

Hi, Steve,

Slightly off topic question, but I think it fits here, and you are the behavioral fish expert!

One of my Percula Clowns ( I believe the female, as it was bigger than the other) for some strange reason decided to jump out of the tank last month. There is nothing that would have "threatened" it in any way, and it had lived happily without a top for 2 years, so maybe it got startled by some weird light or sound.

I have a 30 gallon tall bullet shaped tank (one of the old Cardiffs). In it currently is now one clown, a yellow watchman goby/tiger shrimp pair, and a pajama cardinal fish. Along with an assortment of snails and corals.

My question is, how long does it take to "morph" into a female if this was, indeed, my male, or how can I tell in the large groups of fish in an LFS, that I am picking a male when there isn't a side by side comparison of two individuals?

My wife and children desperately want a second clown back in the tank. (not sure if it is relevant, but I do have a green BTA in the tank as well, although the clowns would rather hand around the return pipes...)

Thanks!

The timing differs whether a clown is by itself or with another. However, I am sure if you get a tiny (smaller than your remaining clown) clownfish of the same species, it would work out. Fish jump for a variety of reasons and all fish can jump.

Restocking.........

Restocking.........

Ok, had a 5 month old 45 gal tank, through cycling, pH 8.2, NO3 0, NO2 0, PO4 .25 ( adding phosphate rx) calcium being brought up to 460 from 340. I had

2p clowns
B tang
R gramma
W. Goby/pistol shrimp

Things good for a month, ich attack, lost tang and gramma. Clowns and goby now in hospital tank, went the copper route. I'm three weeks into an 8week fallow DT.

So...
DT has candy corals, mushrooms, misc zoas, and green polyps, cleaner shrimp, pep shrimp.

My plan-

Reintroduce clowns and goby,
Purchase ( and QT) Blue tang, dwarf fire angel, carpet anemone, rose anemone, royal gramma leather corals from blue zoo. Then add about 3 other fish, thoughts?

No tangs in this sized tank! No carpet anemones, they eat fish. No rose anemone until the tank is 9 months old. You can put about 5-7 small compatible fish in this sized tank

Steve,

I have a 65g mixed reef that is a year old. Current stock list is a mated pair of O. Clowns, Gold Assessor Basslet, Helfrichi Firefish, 1 Firefish and 2 skunk Cleaners, CUC, maxima clam.

I would like to add a Wrasse and have narrowed it down to either a Leopard, Pink Streaked, or a Mystery Wrasse.

I like the Leopard for its potential to pick at worm and red bugs, the Pink streaked for its potential to pick at pyramidal snails and bugs. The Mystery I just like due to its coloration and its potential to pick at flatworms.

Note: I have the fine sandbed for the Leopard, and do not have any red bugs, flatworms, or pyramidal snail problems....so there is no necessity to choose one species over the other to help combat a problem.

Concerns: My female Clown is a bit of a bully. Will the Pink Streaked be too docile? Also...I have fairly strong tank flow due to SPS. Which of the Wrasses I am looking at would be better for an SPS tank due to its tank flow and potential bug predator?

Also...I would like to possibly add another wrasse after this upcoming purchase. Are any of the three Wrasses compatible with each other to keep as tank mates?

Also....which of the aforementioned fish are bad shippers and are sensitive to Prazipro? All of my fish will go through the TTM and then 2 rounds of Prazipro in my QT. Any issues?

Thanks in advance.

Leopard wrasse is the most difficult, a mystery wrasse is the most aggressive, a pink streaked is wonderful. The latter is what I would recommend.

If you start with the pink streaked, the leopard would be highly compatible (or vice versa)

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the advice earlier. I was hoping to get a male female pair of neon gobies just because I really like the coloring and was hoping to have more than one but thinking on it I don't want to have to worry about getting two of the same sex and have them trying to kill each other. I'm not super keen on the geometric pygmy perchlet either if it could bully the blenny so I've revised my list.

55gallon with emperor 400 powerfiter with biowheels

2 ocellaris clowns
1 neon goby
1 flasher wrasse or whip fin fairy wrasse
1 fire fish
1 starry blenny
1 royal gramma
1 bangaii cardinal

Would this be okay or does it present new problems?

Thanks for the help!

Enough. You don't have a tank. You are doing wishful thinking planning. Until you buy a tank and cycle it, it would be best not to post in this thread.

Hey Steve!

75 gallon upgrade about to get wet soon... 55 gallon currently with 2 OC's

2 Ocellaris (already have)
1 Yellow Eye Kole tang
1 Blue spot jawfish
1 Black combtooth blenny (concerned about having two Herbivores, but this tank is going to be softies/macro algae so there should be food. Also plan to grow Gracilaria in sump
and add to display for the kole tang, but want your opinion on this)
1 Hi fin red banded goby
1 Longnose hawkfish
1 Flame angel (feel like I am pushing the limits with this one...)

Thanks in advance!
