current fish
2 oct clowns
bi color dottyback
2 longspine cards
1 fairy wrasse

was thinking of adding 3-6 pj cards

also what tang do you think works the best for this tank. i know you say no tangs, but i want one and i would like your advise on the best one to get as a small baby. i understand he might outgrow the tank

small squaretail bristletooth

Sorry but it will be impossible for me to provide useful information as you have already made up your mind to do something which is not good husbandry. I suggest you start your own thread where I am sure someone will provide an opinion that will endorse your decision.

Hi Steve,

I posted a list here before but decided to go with fish that are reef compatible (kind of). Ive removed a puffer and butterfly from original list. Anyway, here is the new list:

Setup: 100 gallon with 30 gallon sump

1st batch in QT (~June)
- Court Jester Goby (to assist CUC)
- Royal Gramma
- Blue sided fairy wrasse
- PJ Cardinal (however, this guy will stay in my QT following bnumair's advise per the Guide to QT thread)

2nd batch in QT (~Sept-Oct)
- Dispar Anthias (1 or 3 or 5)

3rd batch in QT (~Nov-Dec)
- 2 clownfish with anemone (may wait longer if I don't feel tank has matured enough. At this point, it would've been running for 7-8 months)

4th/5th batch in QT (2016 - the most aggressive fish Im planning on)
- Kole Tang
- Flame Angel
- Coral Beauty
Im going to take a gamble with these last two considering ill likely have corals by the time they join my tank. Per other threads here, its a 50-50 shot? But i really like these two fish.

With 3 Anthias, I think this puts me ~40 inches of fish. Too much? If so, ill go with 1 Anthias. If i can add more, ill go with 5 Anthias.

Thanks Again!

4th/5th batch in QT (2016 - the most aggressive fish Im planning on) three algae grazers in this sized tank is risky long term but two would work; dwarf angels are most likely not coral safe. I would not say the odds are as good as 50-50
- Kole Tang
- Flame Angel

inches of fish is not relevant in salt water; the plan is fine with the two exceptions I annotated

Thanks Again!

Thanks Steve!

As for the Anthias question, is 1 preferable because of my tank size (100 gallon) or because they are tough to keep and I should wait while I'm more experienced?

Either way, ill go with one. Im just curious.

Anthias are not difficult in general, although some species are expert level only; however all anthias do best with multiple feedings per day. Because of the social interaction of multiple anthias, a larger tank would be preferred for a group. Fish size is only a small determining factor for tank size; ecological niche and fish behavior is much more important!

thanks steve i took your advice

think i might pick up a flame or coral beauty, cerube instead of the kole tang.
i know they aren't reef safe all the time, can you recommend witch is the most reef safe or is it hit or miss. i hear if there well feed and corals are healthy they do better. should i also wait till my tank matures a little so they have more food to pick at

also can dwafts live in the same tank or will they fight

28 Gallon -

Valentini's Sharpnosed Puffer
Ocellaris Clownfish(Captive bred)
Another small fish(perhaps dartfish?)
5-10 pounds of live rock
Hardy coral

Of the three, cherubs are the most reef safe. However any algae grazer, if hungry, will eat the zooxanthellae in corals, especially LPS corals.

In a large enough tank (which you do not have), you can have more than one; best results would be with concurrent introduction

Hey least I am asking the questions right. Some just go out and get them I just want what I can't have lol. Happy memorial day

For sure. I have gotten pretty good at predicting long term outcomes so if that is valuable to folks, that is terrific. However free advice is only worth what you paid for it and it is, after all, their tank. I get sad when I know something won't work and that is why this thread is the only thread I reply to on marine fish compatibility. Have a great weekend. Gorgeous here today.

Cool. What corals do you recommend? I've been told that valentini puffers are not as destructive as say, dogface puffers but nor are they model citizens of a reef aquarium. So I'm thinking: ????

This is the tank: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=21183
I really don't want to make any upgrades/additions to the tank system immediately(besides a skimmer and heater). What corals would go well with it considering the light and flow limitations of the tank? On a side note, I really like marine plants but I'm afraid their time would be short with an omnivorous puffer on the lose, lol.

working on my stocking plan for my 400g build (8ft length). Any issues with this list and order of addition?
Regal angel (currently in my 160)
Watanabei angel (currently in my 160)
5 royal gramma
5 bicolor anthias
Pair randall’s gobies
Lamarcks angel
Pair ocellaris clowns
3-5 Cirrhilabrus wrasse of different species
Chevron tang
Trio yellow tangs
Starcki damsel
Trio yellowtail damsel
Blue face angel
Powder blue tang

1st post. 1st reef tank.

1st post. 1st reef tank.

Hi everyone. I have a 90g cycling....just started 2nd week. It's 36x24x24 reef ready with 30 gallon sump underneath with Skimmer, refugium and good amount of live rock. Orbit marine pro led. One power head. Also sand bed but only 2-3 inches. I'm looking for suggestions for my first fish. I'm open to all suggestions but would like to lean towards some that can hang with me as I prove I can maintain consistent parameters. Also what beginning cleanup crew and when to add. Thank you all so much, I'm very excited about my new addiction.

This thread is only about marine fish compatibility. For other questions, it is always best to start your own thread.

I would definitely add the yellow tangs last and concurrently.
