Hi All,

I am changing my 180 gallon reef tank into a 180 gallon FOWLR tank to help simplify my life a little.

My tank is a 180 gallon, (72x24x24), with a 60 gallon sump running a reef octopus skimmer rated for 400 gallons. In the tank I have close to 175lbs of live rock.

Here is my wish list, planning on starting everything on the small side. Let me know what you think:

1 - Pakistan Butterflyfish (Chaetodon collare)
1 - Pearlscale Butterflyfish (Chaetodon xanthurus)
1 - Blue Spotted Puffer (Canthigaster solandri)

Sorry, but I do not provide analysis of aggressive fish community tanks. In general, however, that tank will be overstocked at the level you are planning.

Do you think if I reduced the list to the follow it wouldn't be overstocked?

You have too many large and small algae grazers; with too many in the same ecological niche, there will be territorial issues. Also, you cannot double up firefish as only one will survive long term out of four. An adult Imperator angel fish will own the tank. But you are getting closer to what would work.

Actually, I never provide recommendations for a variety of reasons. However I am always happy to reanalyze as long as tank size and plan are provided.

Ok thanks snorvich. My tank is 55 gallons and is gonna be sps dominant tank with two mp40's and 30 gal refugium. I have a 100 gallon rated skimmer. For lighting I have two kessil 360's. Could you make a possible fish list for me or something like that. I just need fish that I can have in it. Im not looking into clownfish though, i already have enough of those lol. Any other fish then that are fine for me. No jumpers though since I cant secure my tank well enough for jumpers.

Not new to the hobby by any means, but haven't had many fish in the past so I figured I would post here.

I currently just have one Occelaris clown in a 55 gallon tank with lots of liverock and a HOB refugium, and the details in my profile.

would like to eventually get:

2x neon or yellowline gobies (pair)
2x orange stripe prawn gobies (pair if i can find one, if not just one individual)
1x yellow assessor or royal gramma
1x McCoskers wrasse
1x Lawn mower blenny

I realize this may be pushing the bioload but i have about 65 pounds of live rock, 55 pounds of sand, and a pretty powerful skimmer for my size tank. Maybe this is still too many fish

I have a 90 gallon with 90 to 100 pounds rock . current habitants an occ clown, yellow corris, mccoskers flasher and a melenarius wrasse. I'm breaking down my 29, can I put a chalk bass in the 90? I also have a gold striped maroon clown I would like to switch the maroon for the occ. Is that a problem?

the chalk bass is fine; the maroon clownfish will be problematic

A sexually mature maroon clownfish will want to control about 50 gallons of tank space; they are really ornery. So if you can live with the aggressive behavior, they are ok. I would find the ornery behavior to be unpleasant.

My wife would like to add a larger fish to my original selection. (More color) So, I have researched this topic for several hours now. Everything that I have found cant fit in my tank or is not reef safe. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

All levels have been perfect according to my test and the local FS.

My plan is to increase the size of my CUC over time but not replace any of the RHC.
