120 standard. LR 90% sps bare bottom.
Have:
1 yellow tang
1 starry blenny
1 potter's angel
3 green chromis (large)

Looking for suggestions...

As those who follow this thread know, I do not provide recommendations for a variety of reasons. However I am always happy to analyze stocking plans for compatibility. What you cannot put into this tank are any fish the yellow tang will destroy (algae grazers), or any fish which require sand.

120g tank, 48*24*24 with 40g sump. Upgraded from 55g about 3 months ago. All rock from the 55g was moved over and have already added about 20 more, with 25 lbs more curing to be added in the soon. About 2 inch sandbed. ¼" Screen top

Current inhabitants :

3 black axil chromis (going on 2 years, however since upgrading to this tank , one is always hiding but still comes out to eat..)

Yellow watchman goby with pistol shrimp

Lawnmower blenny

McCoskers wrasse

2 percula, have and will be adding from another tank after additional rock is added, unless I should wait until all wrasse added

Plan/hope to add:

Several more wrasse, currently thinking:

"¢Cirrhilabrus aurantidorsalis,

"¢Wetmorella sp.,

"¢Paracheilinus lineopunctatus,

"¢Cirrhilabrus exquisitus

Would a bristletooth tang be pushing it too much? Would add last and probably a year from now. Would it be too aggressive with my blenny? Have read Kole tangs do not go well with blending, so not sure about a tang..

Thanks for your time and input.

2 percula, have and will be adding from another tank after additional rock is added, unless I should wait until all wrasse added No issue since they will not interact with the wrasses

Plan/hope to add: all wrasses are fine

Several more wrasse, currently thinking:

"¢Cirrhilabrus aurantidorsalis,

"¢Wetmorella sp., superb and can be more than one species of the three in this complex

"¢Paracheilinus lineopunctatus,

"¢Cirrhilabrus exquisitus

If added last, the tang would be fine.

Thanks for your time and input.

fire shrimp do not attack fish, six line wrasses are not safe with shrimp and are very aggressive; the yasha goby and pistol shrimp should be fine

Hello, could you let me know what you think about my fish selection? My tank will be 125 gallons with a 40 gallon sump/fuge and it will be mostly SPS and a couple of LPS. I will not be adding the below fish until at least 3 to 4 months after I put in my last SPS, because I want my pod population to be well established to support my Mandarins. I would like to stock it with the following:

Yellow Assessor (2)
Bartletts Anthias (3) M, F, F
Dispar Anthias (3) M, F, F
Royal Gramma (2)
Pajama Cardinals (3) or (3) Banggai Cardinals
Mandarin Dragonetts (Matted Pair) only after tank established 6 months to year and will be the last addition to the tank.
Coral Beauty
Firefish (2)
Cleaner Shrimp (2)
CUC will be all snails

If you could also suggest other fish that may go well with my system in case you recommend that delete some of the above. Thanks in advance....

Mandarin Dragonetts (Matted Pair) only after tank established 6 months to year and will be the last addition to the tank. wait nine months
Coral Beauty not coral safe
Firefish (2) only one will survive longer term
Cleaner Shrimp (2)
CUC will be all snails

While I do not make recommendations for a variety of reasons, I am always happy to review lists which are changed

Thanks Steve,

I was wondering if I should introduce the Firefish first to the tank before any others on the list. And I'm glad to see my selection was good to go on the first go around with the exception of the coral beauty which I was debating about in the first place.

The general "rule" is introduce most passive first (firefish) and most aggressive last; however, "grazing animals" always need to be introduced towards the end of the introduction cycle because they are generally inefficient eaters (think tangs, dwarf angels, dragonets) and need the tank to mature prior to their being enough naturally occurring food (algae, copepods).

ok here I go again this is my build I am working on have not done one in about 10 years all the help will be grateful..

4,Upon tank and water stabilization and constant water readings will be adding the following,

1, two long tentacle anemone

2, one green bulb anemone

3, zoas and polyp coral

1, two long tentacle anemone Your tank is not really mature enough for anemones; in any case neither anemone will necessarily host your clownfish

2, one green bulb anemone

3, zoas and polyp coral

4, a few mushrooms

5, soft/leather coral

Fish

1, two percula clown

2, two pink skunk clowns only one pair of clownfish, especially in a small tank

3, one blue hippo tang needs a much larger tank

4, 2 striped damsel these four damsels will not coexist and will probably kill the lemon peel angel

5, 2 domino damsel

6, one lemon peel angel needs a larger tank

Hi Steve,

I'm new to the reefing hobby (had freshwater tanks), but I've been wanting a saltwater tank for years. Been planning for a while.

I have a standard 90 gallon tank, with a c2c bean animal overflow, and a 20 long sump. Planning a 2-3 inch sandbed in the display and an oversized protein skimmer (probably rated for at least 150). Plan is to have a mixed reef LPS/SPS.

Here's the fish I'd like:

Pair of Clarkii clownfish
Royal Gramma basslet
Tiger watchman goby
Harem of 3-4 Fairy wrasses (cyanopleura, aurantidorsalis, or something similar)
Harem of 3-4 Flasher wrasses (carpenter, filamentosus, or similar)
Trio of small anthias (dispar, resplendent, or ignitus)
One or two wetmorellas
Bristletooth tang (added last or next to last)

Was also thinking of a tribal blenny, but read they can decimate coral. As a newbie, I'm not ready for a problem-child. So maybe an Ember blenny?

It'll probably take me years before I could get through this stocklist, but it's better to have a plan, so I'm not tempted to buy a "clearance" fish that looks cool.

Thank you for all your work on this forum,

-Steven

Pair of Clarkii clownfish fairyl aggressive once mature
Royal Gramma basslet
Tiger watchman goby
Harem of 3-4 Fairy wrasses (cyanopleura, aurantidorsalis, or something similar) females have a tendency to turn male over time;
Harem of 3-4 Flasher wrasses (carpenter, filamentosus, or similar) same; you can get flashing with males of different species
Trio of small anthias (dispar, resplendent, or ignitus)
One or two wetmorellas
Bristletooth tang (added last or next to last)

Was also thinking of a tribal blenny, but read they can decimate coral. As a newbie, I'm not ready for a problem-child. So maybe an Ember blenny?

fine except as annotated

75 gallon or ideally 85 gallon long (72" by 15"). HOB skimmer. Plan on mainly softy/LPS possible SPS reef.

Final stock plan:
-1-4 Green chromis (will get single or group from fellow reefer/cl who have been living together for at least 6+ months, whichever I find. I'm aware they dwindle to one in most cases)
-1 Coral beauty angelfish (I know they will nip corals) *OR* 1 One spot fox face (foxface only if I can get 6ft 85 gal long)
-2 Ocellaris clownfish
-1 Six line wrasse (I know they will limit tank mates, and will be added last :)

Understocked, overstocked, or just right?

Thank you kindly
