29 gallon biocube

29 gallon biocube

Hi guys I have a nice empty and ready to go 29 gallon biocube and would just like to hear some suggestions for fish. It has about 25-30 pounds of live and 20 pounds of live rock. I have a few corals in the tank at the moment but other than that it's just sand and rock.

So any good suggestions?

Side note: I am currently running a 5 gallon pico tank so I can try some of the more difficult fish if it's worth it to try em.

Post this in the general new to hobby forum area. This forum is for one person, Steve, to approve/disapprove your stocking list. He doesn't give suggestions or recommendations for various reasons, but will be more than happy to look over revised stocking lists. :)

If you post on the other forum, you will get a lot more responses and advice.

(By the way, personally, for a 29 gallon biocube I would go with a pair of ocellaris or tank bred percula clownfish, and 1 ORA indigo or ORA orchid dottyback. And a longnose hawkfish is too big/active for a 29 gallon. What about a white banded possum wrasse (similar color, only get about 2"), and a goby shrimp pair? :)

75 gallon or ideally 85 gallon long (72" by 15"). HOB skimmer. Plan on mainly softy/LPS possible SPS reef.

Final stock plan:
-1-4 Green chromis (will get single or group from fellow reefer/cl who have been living together for at least 6+ months, whichever I find. I'm aware they dwindle to one in most cases)
-1 Coral beauty angelfish (I know they will nip corals) *OR* 1 One spot fox face (foxface only if I can get 6ft 85 gal long)
-2 Ocellaris clownfish
-1 Six line wrasse (I know they will limit tank mates, and will be added last :)

Understocked, overstocked, or just right?

Thank you kindly

You have already annotated areas of concern; I would not get a six line wrasse

125 gallon, 50 gallon sump. ASM G2 Skimmer. Plan on mainly SPS and a few possible LPS reef.

Fish stock plan:
Firefish
Yellow Assessor (2)
Bartletts Anthias (3) M, F, F
Ignitus Anthias (3) M, F, F
Dispar Anthias (3) M, F, F
Queen Anthias (3) M, F, F
Royal Gramma (2)
Pajama Cardinals (2)
Banggai Cardinals (2)
Mandarin Dragonetts (Matted Pair) will add last and only after about 1 year or so of tank being established.
Pair of Cleaner Shrimp

Thank you kindly

104G (395L) with 29G sump (110L) live rock, 2" sand bed and running a skimmer

I would like some color variety kole, the standard pair of clowns, thinking just regular ocellaris and a bicolor blenny, not really sure what else yet and not really sure what would go with those guys, any help is appreciated.

90 gallon mixed reef

90 gallon mixed reef

Have a 90 gallon mixed reef with a overflow and approx. 15 gallon sump. Have probably 50 lbs live rock, trickle filter, bio balls, asm protein skimmer mini, carbon filter and two MP40s. Use two 48" Orbit Marine LED strips.

Current Fish:
2 Ocellaris Clownfish
2 Firefish
3 Blue Green Chromis
1 pink spotted goby
1 bi color blenny
1 Solon Fairy Wrasse
1 Bi Color Dottyback

Would like to add:
1 Kole Tang

What do you think?

New to SW & new to this site. I have a 10 gal that I am planning on making a nano tank. I have a protein skimmer & 2 powerheads ordered. Not planning on a filter but am going to use live rock & live sand.

I would like to house zoas, mushrooms, inverts & a few fish. Any recommendations?

Current Fish:
2 Ocellaris Clownfish
2 Firefish Only one will survive long term unless it is killed or harassed by the dottyback
3 Blue Green Chromis Only one will survive long term
1 pink spotted goby
1 bi color blenny
1 Solon Fairy Wrasse
1 Bi Color Dottyback will be a royal PITA and likely harass or kill some of its tank mates

Would like to add:
1 Kole Tang should be last fish added

In this sized tank, only one or two very small peaceful fish

90 gallon- Thanks for the comments

Hmm. I just added the firefish and dottyback. I went in just to browse corals but ended up buying them at the recommendation of the LFS employee. I will be sure not to do that again. However, afterwards I did read that some firefish can work as a mated pair. Didn't realize the bi color dotty was that aggressive.

I researched all the other fish before purchasing. The blue/green chromis seem to have mixed reports. Some seem to have had success with schools and others haven't. I've had the chromis for over 3 months without any problems.

The kole tang will be my final fish.

Do you think I should do anything about the dottyback or just see how things play out? I haven't noticed any problems so far but it's only been a few days.

Either they did not know or they were playing you; I am not sure which would be worse.

However, afterwards I did read that some firefish can work as a mated pair.

The odds are against you; while they can be sexed, that requires a fair amount of knowledge and skill.

Didn't realize the bi color dotty was that aggressive. They are; I would take it back, but that is me.

I've had the chromis for over 3 months without any problems. In the long run, it won't work. 3 months is nothing in terms of aquarium success.

The kole tang will be my final fish. excellent fish but will not easily tolerate additions once established

see above; however it is unlikely your LFS will allow returns :fun2:

Help with possible new addition

Help with possible new addition

Hi everyone, my current take is a bare bottom mixed reef 125g 48"x30"x20" about 8 months old upgraded from a 2 yr old 65g. 30" being the depth. Aquascape allows for a lot of swimming room in front back top and through the aquascape. Current inhabitants consist of the following:

- 4' tomini tang
- 4' magnificent fox face
- 2' ocellaris clownfish female
- 1.5' black ocellaris clownfish male
- 1' black ocellaris clownfish third wheeler
- 3' Midas blenny
- 2.5' melanarus wrasse has a little shell with sand to sleep in
- 2.5' yellowfin flasher wrasse
- 2' lubbock wrasse

Future purchases:
- 4-5' purple tang
- 4-5' powder blue tang
- Hawaiian flame wrasse

The tangs would be introduced together and the Hawaiian wrasse if I get it will be put in before the tang. There is currently no aggression between any of the fishes besides the tang towards the foxface but never results in any damages. Just showing who gets first dibs on food in guessing. Would I have any problem with any of the new proposed addition?

- Hawaiian flame wrasse no problem but realize that male flame wrasses are difficult shippers.
