yellow eye kole tang and a flame angle in a 40 br with no other fish a 20L for sump and a minimal scape?
Unfortunately, no tang in a 40 gallon tank.
any pretty fish that have a nice personality that could go with a flame angle. im planing for the future and im going to set up a calming 40 br in my dorm when i go off to college.
what about a yellow eye kole tang and a blue Caribbean tang in a 120 together?
I have room for one more fish in an established, peaceful 28 gallon nano to share with a Pygmy wrasse, Orange stripe goby and a helfrichi. All three get along great.
Have an eye on either a Golf Assessor Basslet or Yellow Candy Hogfish. Both are supposed to be peaceful, won't grow too large and won't harm corals.
Would really like your input.
Thanks in advance.
I have a 65 tall tank (36x18x24) and 20 long sump containing ~70lbs of rock. About 20 lbs is 7months old, the rest is new. I am not currently using a skimmer, but I can.
I'd like to have a group of maybe 6 orange line cardinals or threadfin cardinals. Is it true that orange line cardinals pick each other off?
cardinal fish pair off and do not shoal long term. Also, they are more active at night.
In addition, perhaps a Randall's prawn goby and associated pistol shrimp.
Excellent choice
I like the sleeper gold head goby but I am not sure I want to deal with it throwing sand on corals. I am also reading that they eat benthic critters, doesn't sound very appropriate for my tank.
Golden headed sleeper gobies deplete your sand bed of useful invertebrates and often starve to death except in very large tanks. The "sand storm thing" is highly undesirable with corals
There are no fish inhabitants in the tank so far.
Hi Steve,
I want to say thanks again for the service that you are providing to this website and hobby.
Good morning, Turner. You are most welcome, I enjoy having people be successful!
My father (Gone Snorklin') and I are in the middle of setting up a 120 gallon reef, and have recently discussed our stocking list with you, thanks again!
However, we have a 55 gallon tank sitting in our basement that I thought we would set up in my bedroom as a FOWLR.
The fish we want to specifically keep in this tank is a flame angelfish, and I have several different combinations of ideas:
List
1 x Valenciennea wardii (Or another type of watchman goby)
Various ones are available, and have similar personalities/behaviors
1 x Oxycirrhites typus OR Neocirrhitus armatus I like both but either will eat shrimp although your pistol shrimp (you can pair them) will be safe
1 x Centropyge loriculus There are different colorations available, but in general, I like this fish. Best to add last so the tank is more mature
and finally either
2 x Amphiprion ocellaris
OR
1 x wrasse from genus Halichoeres
OR
1 x Chaetodon auriga (I read on live aquaria that this species only requires a 55 gallon tank, not sure if this is accurate? Although live aquaria generally does seems fairly accurate)
Live Aquaria is pretty good about realistic tank sizes. My choice would be Chaetodon auriga because I find clownfish a bit boring (too many years doing this)
The only inverts will likely be snails to clean the glass and rock, maybe a conch sometime down the road.
A fighting conch is great for the sand bed.
Thank you Steve for the advice,
Turner
A mating pair of GSM will want to control at least 50 gallons of tank space. They will be aggressive towards other fish and to any hands in the tank.
Steve, I'm puzzled now. The male GSM died, the female has since completedly changed her behavior toward the ocellaris apparently. Now she comes to them (and they don't try to get away) and she seem she is trying to bond with them (especially with the bigger one, both still small compared to her), I've seen her slowly coming up to them and "kissing" them on the side - I've seen her doing that over 10 times, swimming around them and I haven't seen any other incident of aggression.
Could it be that the death of the male made her ocellaris friendly so that I can keep all 3 of them? or is it something temporary? is it possible that she would pair up with one of the ocellaris and if so is the other ocellaris at risk if that happens?
I have a pretty well established salt tank with a few crabs, starfish, clown fish, and coral bandid shrimp. I bought a couple clumps of pumping zenia, and start pollips and they wouldn't grow. I have a 50/50 bulb in and was just advised that I need more daylight than that. should I just add a halide or is there another bulb i can replace mine with to grow coral?
Hi Steve,
I currently have the following equipments:
185 gallon 72x24x24
60 gallon sump
40 gallon refugium
SRO 3000 INT skimmer
3 175Watt MH, 2 72" VHO
200 lbs live rock
3-inch sand bed
So far I have the following fish: Two ORA black and white ocellaris clownfish, one ORA orchid dottyback, and one ORA neon dottyback.
Helping you would be much easier if you did not have dottybacks. They can be hyper aggressive.
All fish are getting along just fine!
I would like to add the following fish:
1 sixline wrasse does not do well with dragonets
3 anthias
1 or mated pair ORA mandarin dragonets I am not a proponent of ORA mandarins since their track record is inconsistent. Once your tank is mature, you can probably keep one or a pair of wild caught mandarins, which if healthy would do fine
1 purple tang While these two tangs can be done, they would have to be introduced concurrently
1 yellow tang
1 flame angel Not reef safe for meaty LPS
I need your help figuring out the best way to introduce these fish. What's the best order? How about invertebrates, what kinds of crabs, snails, and shrimps? This will be a reef in the future (in six months hopefully).
I never advocate crabs. Snails of various kinds plus fighting conch and various shrimps would be terrific.
PLS HELP! THANK YOU![]()
