Hello Steve
I am purchasing a 120G 4/2 tank with 40 gal sump and a R 0ct 150 skimmer.
The only tenants I want to keep are 1 yellow and one blue tang and 3 chromis ,cleaner shrimp 6 pep shrimp and some snails
Is this a can do?
Thank you so much.
Jay

If the blue tang is P. hepatus, that fish needs a larger tank. 3 chromis will likely become one over time.

Hi Steve,

I got my lawnmower Blenny on saturday, and he was dead by monday :-( Not sure what happened. All my levels are at 0, PH is 8.4. There's no algae in the QT tank, i hear that may have made it difficult to keep a LM Blenny. The LFS was pushing Chromis at my first fish not a good idea, highly susceptible to uronema, but i resisted because i didn't want to take up livestock space in my tank. Do you think i could add them to this stocklist and be alright in the end? I've also traded out the idea of a Flameangel for a Coral Beauty or an African Flameback, i'd love to hear your thoughts on that. It'll be a mixed reef 75g, with 30g sump and skimmer rated for 120g.

Kole Tang
2 Ocellaris Clowns
Flame Hawk not shrimp safe
Lawnmower Blenny
Diamond Goby
African Flameback or Coral Beauty
Midas Blenny will nip fins of planktivores
3 Chromis will likely become one over time

I'd also like to do either a trio of Mccosker's Flashers or a Mandarin maybe a year down the road. If possible. either would work but not both

I have a 54g corner tank with a 15g sump. The tank is bare bottom, so I don't want anything that needs substrate. I have lots of rock work, lots of flow, and run an AquaC Remora skimmer.

I'd like to be able to keep all types of corals and a variety of inverts. Right now, I only have a few corals, a few hermits, and a coral banded shrimp. CBB can take fish, FYI.

Here are my thoughts on eventual fish. Would like your thoughts on compatibility, what order to add them, and whether this is too many for my tank size.

3 Pajama Cardinalfish
2 Ocellaris Clownfish (1 orange, 1 black & white)
1 Royal Gramma
3 Blue Reef Chromis will become one over time
1 Longfin Fairy Wrasse, Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse, or Whip Fin Fairy Wrasse the flasher wrasse is fine, the other two fairy wrasses are aggressive

Thanks in advance!

Ahhh, so you think Chromis are not a good first fish? What about a firefish instead of the chromis? Would that fit with the overall stocking in the end?

absolutely, one firefish would be terrific. I am opposed to chromis for a couple of reasons: first, groups almost always end up being one, secondly the incident rate of uronema marinum in chromis is high and new to the hobby especially, but even experienced folks have difficulty with this particular parasite.

Hey Steve,

Here is what I have...

- 72 gallon bowfront tank - 4 feet long
- Deepwater HOB protein skimmer
- 2 hydor 1150 power heads and 1 650 gph power head
- 48" Marineland Reef Capable LED
- 48" 2*250 watt Metal Halides (not using it currently...but can use if needed)

Started cycling with Live Rock and Live Stand...4 weeks into the cycle...small traces of Ammonia (because of the raw shrimp...need to take it out), Nitrites and 20 ppm of Nitrates...planning to change 20% water and start adding live stock. The plan is to have lot of corals in my tank and some beginner fish which are safe for corals. So here is what I am planning -

- 2 Ocellaris Clownfish, preferably a pair - this weekend
- 2 Kauderns Cardinal - after 2 weeks
- 1 Royal Gramma Basslet - after 3 weeks
- 1 Blue Hepatus Tang - after a month
- 1 Flame Angelfish (but I read that it might nip corals) - after a month
- 2 Black & White Ocellaris Clownfish - sometime in future
- 1 Kole Yellow Eye Tang - sometime in future

- 2 Kauderns Cardinal - after 2 weeks two must be a male plus female and should be tank raised as they are more likely to succeed
- 1 Royal Gramma Basslet - after 3 weeks
- 1 Blue Hepatus Tang - after a month needs a much larger, longer tank
- 1 Flame Angelfish (but I read that it might nip corals) - after a month not coral safe, but your choice and ideally should go into a more mature tank
- 2 Black & White Ocellaris Clownfish - sometime in future only one pair of clownfish

Hi Steve,

Do you think a firefish or a pair of ocellaris clowns would be the best first addition? I see firefish like algae as well and my QT has bascially none. I'm not looking to kill another fish here. My fear is the Clowns will be big and feisty in 5 months when it comes time to add the last fish (who will be a kole tang proceeded by a flamehawk or pygmy angel, so maybe they can handle themselves if that's the case?

Thanks again!

A firefish is a planktivore eating cyclopeeze, nutramar ova, various frozen foods and is not an algae grazer. Last fish should be the kole tang. A. ocellaris are the most mellow species of clownfish and should be fine being introduced early or later.

Hi,

I am currently building up my new 105 gal Tank (now really the last I think ;D)
My wishlist would be :
2x ocellaris
2x C. springeri
2x V. Puellaris
1x Mccoskers Wrasse
1x Filefish
2x Opistognathus aurifrons
1x Tomini Tang

Now when I see the stocking List I think this would already be very much (too much?) fish.
Nevertheless I was thinking about one last fish. Alternatives would be:
- second Tomini
- A. Pyroferus
- Chevron Tang
- foxface (think only the one spottet would fit)
- no more fish! You are already overstocked ;D

I would prefer a macro algea eater like the Pyroferus, or foxface (Chevron?) since I don't have other fish eating macro algea.

Thanks :)

My wishlist would be :
2x ocellaris
2x C. springeri
2x V. Puellaris unless a bonded pair, only one in this sized tank
1x Mccoskers Wrasse
1x Filefish what kind?
2x Opistognathus aurifrons
1x Tomini Tang

Now when I see the stocking List I think this would already be very much (too much?) fish.
Nevertheless I was thinking about one last fish. Alternatives would be: only one tang in this sized tank; you might get away with a second one if introduced concurrently. If you try it, the chevron would be my choice. The foxface however might also work instead of a second tang again introduced concurrently.

Im cycling a 29g biocube, with live sand, 25lb of live rock. 10% water change a week. Planning on adding 1 clownfish 1 wrasse 1 mandarin dragonate. Some snails, hermit crabs. Adding the fishes slowly. Maybe one more fish later on but no more than 4 total.

A mandarin will not survive in this sized tank, especially with a wrasse, without incredible efforts.

Thanks again for all your help as I went back & forth with a stocking plan, I really appreciate it. I'm really enjoying the possum wrasse. What a nice little fish to have in the tank :)
