Hi guys, I'd like to add a dwarf fire angel to my current setup. Just curious your thoughts. Hoping to add a few more fish down the line too.

steve, i went against everything i ever said i'd do since i found this thread. i couldn't resist this addition. please tell me it's reef safe. i've already named him karl (with a k) and i'd hate to have to, you know, eat him. thanks!

Hi guys, I'd like to add a dwarf fire angel to my current setup. Just curious your thoughts. Hoping to add a few more fish down the line too. Current Tank Info: 54 gallon corner bow with a fluval 305 canister which I run max of 1 week at a time after water changes only. 40 lbs live rock. 2 bags of live sand. 1 yellowtail damsel, 1 blood red fire shrimp, 1 maroon clown, 1 six line wrasse.

You have three issues: a maroon clownfish will be very aggressive and want to control about 50 gallons once mature, a damsel will not like many tank mates and a sixline wrasse will not be tolerant of many tank mates.

Well, lobsters are excellent with garlic and butter. No lobster is really "reef safe".

thanks, that's what i was afraid of. guess i'm gonna hafta make karl my dinner. *sigh*

happy new year and thank you SO much for your guidance over the last year with my new tank!!!

Happy New Year to you as well! Always a pleasure to respond to this thread.

Everyone is getting along swimmingly currently. Granted I don't think anyone is mature yet. So your suggestion is to trade some guys out?

In this thread, I provide the long term compatibility of stocking lists assuming the fish mature at some point. Also, once a fish has established a territory, it will defend that territory against newcomers. I don't really make suggestions or recommendations. You have a smallish tank so that constrains your choices more than a large tank would.

Ok. That makes sense and I appreciate the educated perspective. I do have a few followup questions.

How long might maturity typically take? I know this is likely variable depending on when fish are purchased in their life. But all mine are about the same size, 1.5"-2"

How long would it take for a fish to establish a territory?

Is it possible to re-rockscape the tank in an attempt to reintroduce everyone at the same time? Would I need to remove the fish to do this?

Thanks!

Size is not the issue but in some case may indicate maturity such as with clownfish.

Highly subjective, but a couple of months for sure, but possibly less.

The larger the tank, the more effective that becomes. If you do change the landscape, do it in the morning just after lights come on. It will not solve the problems of the basic nature of a fish's behavior, however, and you have three which are inherently aggressive. Remember, the larger the tank, the less behavior becomes an issue.

Thanks!

Need some kind assistance please...

40 gal reef setup
Established for 10 months
Parameters stable
50 + pounds live rock
Plenty of flow and Kessil LEDs

Current stock list;
2 Bengaii cardinals
1 yelow tail damsel

I want to add a yellow assessor but because of their somewhat reclusive nature and submissive nature, I am worried that the damsel (to which I am attached to) may bully the assessor - however, the damsel to date has been quite chill

I would greatly appreciate your comments
Happy New Year !

A yellow (or blue) Assessor will tend to be reclusive with or without an aggressive fish in the tank. If you have caves and places for an assessor to hang out, it will probably work, but I would be more confident if the tank were larger.

I have a biocube14 with a deep red LED lit refugium, matrix, and GFO.
There is currently only a Talbot's Damsel that has been in the tank for about 8 months. I'd like to add another fish if possible, and would like to know if a Falco Hawkfish would work, or if not, what if any other options would work with the Talbot.
Thanks!

Tank is a bit small for two fish. But behaviorally the hawkfish would probably work if the damsel is large enough.

Replacing 75 gal tank

Replacing 75 gal tank

I will be moving my whole setup from a cracked 75 gallon bowfront to a standard 75 gallon tank. Currently have lots of liverock, 4 clowns (I know that two will ultimately have to be moved out) a scooter blennie, one fire shrimp, one peppermint shrimp, 5 turbos, a few snails, soft corals, a frag of stunner chalice, kenya tree, frogspawn, hammer coral and 3 anemones. I'm happy with this mix now but I want to plan for the future. No more impulse buys (like the second pair of clowns and 3, yes 3 anemones)! I need some colour - yellows and reds, hopefully. I had 2 6lined wrasses but they have disappeared. So has my
Emerald crab. (No more crabs from now on.) As I said, not buying anything now. Just want to confirm what might work.

My wish list:
A kole tang
A colourful wrasse of some kind
Firefish
Royal Gramma

Thank you in advance for your advice.

I have a 75 g FOWLR and this is my proposed eventual stocking list

2 onyx percula clowns
green chromis
valentini puffer
Kole tang
Flame angel
butterfly fish- unsure which, suggestions greatly appreciated
tail spot blenny
flasher or fairy wrasse

thanks!

Yes 4 clowns will become 2 clowns. The remainder of your plan is fine; add the kole tang last.

In this sized tank, two algae grazers are problematic without constant supply of Nori. Otherwise the plan is fine.

Hope this is appropriate to post here, based on your comment above:
When I skip a day of Nori, my Kole seems to hassle my One-Spot Foxface. Is this a potential reason?
(My tank is also a 75).
