No, the pink streated wrasse is far preferred from a behavioral perspective. Most peaceful first, most aggressive last. However with the recommendations I provided, order would not be an issue
Thanks for all the help and info.

Steve,
I am new to the hobby and have learned so much just by watching this thread. Even though it has at times pointed out my mistakesI am just trying to get it right.
Here is what I have.........
40 gallon innovative marine with ATO, filter socks, and tune 9004 skimmer
1 yellow goby and pistol shrimp pair
1 royal gramma
1 very small yellow corps wrasse
1 starry blenny
1 matted file fish
I also have 10 hermits, 2 urchins your tank size is probably too small for two , one crab, and 2 snails crab? crabs are opportunistic feeders and are generally not a good idea.
all have been living very peacefully for months. Can I add more fish?
I was thinking about a fuzzy dwarf lion fish? they eat fish; are there some fish you do not like in your tank? :twitch:
or maybe a chalk bass? should be fine
Thanks again and I am just trying to get this right
I have a 56 gallon column tank that has just finished cycling. I have live rock and a sump with cheato. I have an ATO and use RODI water. I also use a Reef Octopus protein skimmer and sump with a filter sock. There's a sea urchin in my tank that I'd like to hold on to, that came with the live rock. Here're some of the fishies that I'd like. It's sort of a pipe dream list. I'm not really sure I can have all of them, or certain ones.
1. Clownfish, maybe a mated pair. depends on species
2. Kole Tang Needs a larger tank
3. Mandarin Goby Needs a larger tank
4. Bicolor Blenny
5. Helfrichi Firefish
6. Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse
7. Scissortail Dartfish
8. Court Jester Goby
You have some jumpers so a top would be required (1/4 inch mesh
Thank you for the fast response. I figured the first 2 would be a no-no, but the lfs said I could, just wanted to be sure. I do have a mesh top. Sorry, forgot to mention that.
Finished cycling and staring to add critters. I have a medium sized pink spotted watchman goby settled in nicely. I have a moderate amount of rocks in the 36" wide by 30" front to back by 27" tall tank (about 120 gallons) that the goby likes to perch on as well as on the sand bed. Would there be quibbling if I put a lawnmower or starry blenny in with the established pink spot goby? I have been seeing some very large starry gobies around town that are really amusing.
Hello All!
I am new to the hobby but have been reading and digesting as much as possible.
I have a 92 gallon FOWLR in a corner aquarium. I am running a 23 gallon sump with bio balls, protein skimmer, UV filter and am waiting for a media reactor to arrive. My number have all been very steady for the last 3 weeks (the tank has been in operation for 5). My nitrates hover around 10.
I have live sand and about 20 lbs of live rock.
Currently I have a banded sleeper gobie that is very active and eats well. I have a red flame angel that is also active and eating. And I have two captive bred oceallaris clowns. They are also doing well (although the bigger of the two can get to be a bully when I feed them - it pushes the little one out of the way if it can). The flame angel should not have been added yet; a sleeper gobie will likely starve longer term in this sized tank
I have had some missteps along the way. The LFS recommended a blonde naso tang with the clowns as my first fist.
That advice was ignorant at best, malicious at worst. A naso tang has no business in this sized tank.
After a spike when I added rock, he died. I'm not sure if the two are connected, but what a great fish. And I have a diamond watchman goby dive out of the tank and die overnight.
For now I am holding steady and researching what to add next. I would really like more colorful fish that are somewhat larger.
Any ideas? Thanks so much.
How can I take good care of the banded goby? I feed him about 3 times a day... a variety of frozen shrimp and he loves seaweed and fish pellets.
do the best you can and hope for the best. Long term, I suspect he may need different nutrition.
Is there any way that I can stock well post-flame angel? Or should I bring him back to the LFS? Feed nori on a clip and hope for thest best. Once the tank is mature, he should be fine feeding off the algae generated
I was thinking of going with some blue/green chromis or a butterfly next. I am also thinking of getting a wrasse. Are they appropriate?
The flame eats a lot of the shrimp I provide and grazes on the tank algae all day. I will hope for the best for him. The tank is covered... I learned the hard way when the diamond watchman goby took a flying leap.
A friend suggested a butterfly fish... what do you think about that?
He suggested a pearlscale butterfly. It is pretty, but I think I would like something larger.
With a 92 gallon tank, you want to think smaller rather than larger. Also, as new to the hobby, you want easy not difficult.
I have a 92 gallon tank, skimmer, UV filter, 23 gallon sump (wet/dry). About 30 lbs. live rock, intended to be FOWLR, and live sand.
Currently inhabited by two ocellaris clowns, a banded goby and a flame angel.
I was thinking also of a 6 line wrasse... not a good idea because they are aggressive and a pain.
I would love some chromis, but I have heard bad stories about them of late.
I do not advocate for chromis because they are highly susceptible to uronema marinum and multiples become one over time
What would you think of a yellow tang? needs a larger tank; you already have one algae eater
Thanks.
Hi, have a 75 gallon tank, with 20g refugium chaeto plant in it. Planning on mixed reef tank with a variety of corals.
2 clown fishes, one spot fox face, six line wrasse, red mandarin (when tank more mature), horned Benny, Kobe yellow tang, royal dotty back, bartlett's anthrax, peppermint shrimp, and some CUC.
