Red Carpet Anemone

Will do and thanks for the compliments. These beautys should be more readily available in our hobby and i want to do my part and also make a few bucks in the process to offset the electric bill :)

Hadonis, for what I have read, do not reproduce this way. Trust me, if it was so easy as he claims, him and every other propagator would be cutting them to no end. Bubble anemones and carpets are a completely different game. I do wish you the best of luck and keep us posted.

Folks,

Let's keep trades, waiting lists, etc., out of the discussion areas so we don't have to close the thread.

Thanks.

FWIW, here's one cloning. I can tell you almost a year later it has developed it's own mouth, but it has only doubled in size...

THere is a similar picture in either Borneman's or Sprung's book about it. But, it seems a bud, not a formed and independent being. Please correct me if I am wrong.

There are pics of a green carpet that I propagated, in my gallery, after watching Anthony Calfo speak.

what are the steps to doing something like this? feed them heavily for a few weeks... cut through the base with a super sharp razor? what else? please inform us! this is very interesting!

I had my anemone for over a year, fed it twice a week (a mix of squid, clam, fish, and shrimp. I started by making my first cut straight down the mouth and out to one side. After that I spread the cut open, making easier for me to make aclean cut out the other side of the mouth. After it was cut, I set in a quarintine tank for 10 minutes to allow it to suck in some water and shed some excess slime. Then I pulled it out for 1 minute to allow it to purge itself and into the main tank it went. It took about 1 week for it to start feeding again.

This is how I did it. I am sure there are other ways. I had the idea of doing this before I saw Anthony Calfo speak when I saw a LFS remove a blue carpet from a tank and tore a small part of it off where it was attached to a rock and 2 weeks later it was its own little anemone. I certainly needed the motivation from his lecture.

Im going to try to pick up a blue or green carpet to experiment on. I dont see this as a problem and im sure of a positive outcome.
Please keep all wants and requests out of this thread so it doesnt get shut down for being commercial. The more anemone species we can all propogate the less comes from the wild and the more readily available the more desired color morphs will be to attain.

I am 100% with you on that one:) :)

I bought my food from a grocery store. It took almost 2 months for the foot and mouth to be the center of the anemone again. It was off-center due to how it pulled itself closed. I bet it would take less time with a smaller carpet, mine was about 15". My RBTA only takes 1 week to look perfect again.

Well first of all i do not agree with propagating corals what so ever, but thats just my opinion. I believe in letting the organism do what it has to do by itself in the amount of time it takes. Do you honestly think, in the wild people go around to all the corals and start cutting them in half? NO, its just not right. Natural is the best way no matter what, but then again thats my belief.

come on bluecarpet.. think this one over.. maybe a big fish pushes some rock over and rips a nem in a few peaces or a fish takes a few big bits and spits them out. or what ever.

propagaiting coras and sea life is the best thing we can do as reefers.

on the other hand we could rip everthing out of the sea and leave nothing for our kids or our planet.

Good job u guys. u have more guts than me.
