I agree with Phil on this one. As far as I have seen in person (and read extensively), clowns have never been encountered in the wild away from a host anemone. In fact, I usually find anemones in the wild to be somewhat difficult to locate if they DON'T have clownfish. Typically I look for clownfish first (they often swim higher in the water column when looking for food) and then I get closer to see where the anemone is.
