Reef Octopus "POV" PRO-SSS-DC1 thoughts?

Im getting some really nice fine tight bubbles all the way up the neck now. Looks to be breaking in good. Running on level 5. Now i just need it to pull out some gunk and not tea. I did however just do some large water changes over the weekend and I also used some epoxy in the tank so that could be partially the issue. It is sitting in about 7" of water now.

Johnyd91 I would lower your big bubble break to below the cup. As soon as it breaks in you will prob overflow.

Yeah, the break keeps dropping so i was just keeping up with it till the fine bubbles made it up the neck. Ill stop there or pull back a bit in a few hours if the break doesn't drop again.

What size tank are you running yours on?

My sump has three compartments and they are not making it to main tank, but the dc3 does spit them out a little.

Day three and skimmers working great. The skinnier neck seems to be a better size for my system. I think the 5000sss I had was a size to big. The wine bottle shape seems to allow the bubbles to collect better at top. Reminds me more of my old ATB.

The Octopus has really come a looooong way. I remember back in the day when Deltecs were still one of the topnotch skimmer brands out there and the octopus's performance was marginal at best.

Looks great! That pump looks wicked nice. I'm very excited about the DC pumps that are rolling out now. The new DC pumps look amazing, powerful and most likely they will be even quieter than they already are. :)

I've got a question for some of the guys who have got this skimmer. I'm ready to buy the smaller version of it, but the $540.00 has me wondering if its worth it. You can get the rlss i6 for $350.00 and the vertex omega 150 which the body looks almost the same.

What makes this skimmer $200.00 better? All the skimmers are somewhat new and i haven't seen any direct comparisons. Just want to know the thoughts of someone who owns one.

Thanks,
Joe

I think you will find the answer lies in the pump. :)

DC pumps cost more to make and are more versatile. What you will find is that the skimmer pump accounts for roughly 50-60% of the purchase price of a high end skimmer.

John

would you consider this skimmer the best reef octopus has to offer? i am thinking of getting the ds2 (rated for 400g) for my 265g

Looks like an awesome skimmer. I own a DC-5000 pump, and I can't even hear it at the highest setting with my ear right next to it, so these skimmers must be extremely quiet too. Plus, the downward pointing pump better utilizes the high of the skimmer compared to traditional space saver designs.

Too new to say. I had a 5000sss that worked pretty well. I will know in about a month or so.
