Reefbreeders/(Evergrow OEM) Fixtures D120/IT20** series

man.. I'd go for 120* optics all the way around then. Why focus the light when you don't need to, dispense it out to stop shadowing etc. I'd only use tighter optics if I had to in order to go deep or keep the light off of my glass. My tank is 20 inches deep, all SPS, and I run 120* optics. I see no reason to turn them up above 50 or 60%. They are currently easily matching the PAR my MH's were putting out at this level.

I was wondering if a reefbreeders photon24 would be a good lighting system for my 46g bow? Also would I want the 60, 90, or 120 degree fixture?

Hmm now you have me thinking again. Stop it lol. Anyway how high are yours mouted above your tank? I'm going to use the maxspect rail system so I can mount them 7 1/2 or 11 1/4 above the tank depending on which way I configure it.

On a side note I'm very excited to use this rail system. It is so adaptable since it is modular and it is super strong. I'm planning on getting the rail brackets that would normaly be used to hang the rails from a canopy but I'm going to use them to mount to the fixture instead. I'll be free to slide the fixtures left and right as needed to tweek things.

Hey guys im new to the led scene, and been really skeptical about these chinese models. After following this thread , i have really been considering them over the rad g2 and vegas. Only thing is that i need some advise. My tank is being made now and should be completed in few weeks. Dims are 30L x 24w x 20 H. Right now im stuck between the it2060(photon24) or the nova a8 22in controllable. The tank will be mosly sps with few zoas. Any advise from you experts would be highly appreciated

I tihnk your question might be hard to answer. Someone needs to have experience with both fixtures. I haven't seen a nova a8 even in pictures to help you with. Seeing as how I just went with the smaller IT series I'll say go that way but only because it is what I know so far.

Coming directly from EverGrow all mine (5 D120's) have a sticker with a different serial number. I would send that number along with a picture of the fixture with only one channel turned on. They should be able to check their records easy enough. Also, your invoice from Sunny (Helen or ??) should show the instructions of what CB they should have used for all three of the fixtures. I would be surprised if you have any problem getting it replaced - still within the warrantry period.

Its been a problem. Needless to say I'm not very impressed with their warranty, not that I thought it would be. They refused to replace the unit even though its defective because I "used" it. They won't repair it either. I asked them to just sell me one at a discount of some sort and it seems they don't want to do that either.

I've been going at this for a month or so now and it just irritates me that they won't fix something that was messed up in the first place.

Anyone know how to get the channels back the way they should be?

Just received the 32 photon. This thing is bright . Wow. Was thinking if too white will supp with my vho attincs in the closet from years past. Nice light and Logan great to work with.

I'm just curious. Out of those who have the reefbreeders/evergrow LED's, who here is running them at 100%? I know we'll all have different tank depths, different LED's heights off of the water, different optics etc etc, but the question I would still like answered. Are you running them at (or plan to run them at) 100%. If you do, why? What will you do when you get new corals (ie how will you acclimate them)?
Do you think it is important to run them at 100% to grow your corals? What do you think the benefits to running them full blast are vs never running them full blast?
I'm just wondering what everyone is doing.

Well I did it. I've pulled the trigger and bought 3 photon 16s from RB. I spoke with Logan on the phone today and decided to go with his fixtures and his default LED layout. I was concerned about the default with all the people mentioning how pink they were plus seeing all the pinkish pics. He informed me that I should check out the newer layout they were using with only a couple of red LEDs now.

My P32 has four red LEDs and I most definitely find it too pink. I ended up blocking the direct output of those red LEDs with metal tape and the more diffused light strikes a better color balance to my eye.

You get to buy a new fixture in three years? The lasting 50,000 hours is based upon 50,000 hours average and ten years with a 3% drop per year and at the end of ten 30% which is what the manufacture of lamps and LEDS deem them to be replaced. For some they might not drop very much, for others they might drop more. So if you follow that running at 100% after three years your light output may drop 10% which is when I change my lamps and you can change your fixture. The best part of controllable LEDs is so you can start them at 50 to 80% and ramp them up each year to maintain the same PAR levels for many years.

I just got a stock photon 16 with 120 degree optics for my 60 cube - really suprised how much I like them. I wish the LED panel on the light would turn off when not in use - it's really bright at night (this is in my bedroom.)

I have 2 Vegas on my DT downstairs. I may like the light on these even more. They're not as customisable - but for the price they're a steal. My only concern is that they don't have great heat dissipation - it's just two fans mounted on the top of the fixture - they don't appear to have any heat sink, which may lead to these LEDs degrading faster over time then my Vegas.

These have just 2 red LEDs - definitely not too pink.

I'm pretty sure they have a heat sink. What makes you think they don't? (at least the photons do I thought)

The inside of the case is literally hollow. I'll shine a flashlight in there tonight and see if there are very small ones on top of the LEDs.

There isn't much in the way of heat sinks and they rely on fans. I have D120, IT2040 and IT2080's. The D120's run at room temperature and hold no heat at all. The IT2040 (Photon 16) runs a bit warm, but hardly an issue as far as I'm concerned. The IT2080 (Photon 32) is the one that runs the warmest of the bunch, in part because I have 2 in a canopy, and it's still not very warm.

which unit do you have? I know its been posted by reefbreeders that all the photons have heatsinks and he said all the new "value" fixtures now also have heatsinks.

I know that some of the generic no brand black box chineese led fixtures do not have any heatsinks inside. I have four of these units that are only a year and half old and every unit has at least 5-6 burnt out leds. I have a feeling the lack of a heatsink is what caused them to fail. i tore one apart and the guts where very cheap and nothing much to them.

i just ordered 2 of the photon32s so i hope they do indeed have heatsinks

My photon 16s are on the way and so is my Maxspect rail system. I got the first few pieces of the rail system in today as it had to be dropped shipped from another warehouse. The rest should be in Thursday and Friday I hope! I'm using the maxspect ceiling mounting brackets to mount the Phontons with. Instead of them being on top of the rails to hang the rails from they will just slide on under the rails and the photons will hang from them. I'm so stoked right now I can't stand it!

I got my IT-2060 last week from Reef Supply Canada. It shipped from Hong Kong but it was on my doorstep in sixty hours, if you can believe that.

Man I love this light! :bounce1: Everything about it from the high-quality looking case, to the hanging hardware, the controller, the color and the PAR it puts out, the near-silent fans ... awesome. This has got to be the best light for the money I've ever seen.

BTW it does have a heat sink, which I took a photo of while I had the fixture popped apart messing with the lenses, but now I can't find the pic. I'll take another one when I'm installing my 120 degree optics (it came with 90's).

And three cheers for Reef Supply Canada, by the way. The 120 degree optics were supposed to be shipped with the light, but someone in Hong Kong didn't get the memo. RSC stepped up and got them on the way with a quickness. Also ... LOL ... I dropped my remote control in the tank the very first day ... would you believe they're sending me another one free of charge??

Good to hear that RSC did a really good job for you. It seems everybody wants to use RB and I'm not sold on their follow up. I've heard several stories about lack of follow up. But there are, and will be, more distributors of EG products as time goes by. The make a nice quality product, sell it a super competitive prices (both direct and to online as well as brick & mortar LFS) and they back the products with pretty good customer service.
