Reefbreeders/(Evergrow OEM) Fixtures D120/IT20** series

has anyone else ran apogee par readings under the photon 32.. ie it2080.

thanks

I have 2 over my 180g tank. At 100% blue and 60% white (my new settings, up from 90% and 40%) the PAR at 20" is between 200-225. I have a big birdsnest colony (sps) growing right there at the sand.

ok im am going to check mine out over the weekend.. i am also going to see if the 60 optics change it much.. ron are you losing much par under glass braces?

Yes and no. I am losing PAR because my glass brace is VERY frosty looking. But I make up for it by having 2 fixtures lighting up the same area (the glass brace). So the PAR in the center of my tank is just a bit lower than out from under the glass brace.

I have been reading through post and found that some of these units have slightly noisy cooling fans. which is what I have on both of my units. My units are the IT2060, anyone know anything about changing these fans out, are they easy to do? what spec i should be looking for to replace, and size etc?
Thanks

Open the light and there will be a part number on the fan. Do a Google or Amazon search for that number. It should give you sellers for that fan and other fans that are very similar. The specs for each fan have a DB rating so you can see how loud they are. I had to do this when replacing a fan in my old Aqua Medic MH fixture. The quieter fans typically don't move as much air.

Any tips or tricks to know when my Photon 24 gets here. It is due tomorrow and I would like to get it set up as painless as possible.

Any "ideal" lighting schedules to go by when setting?

I'm going to do the Reef Breeders group buy on June 21st, and I have a 120G tank,
48"x24"x25" I'm setting up

I see mixed reviews on using the 32" Proton, or the 48" Protonon a 48" tank.
I've read several post by Logan suggesting the 48" Proton on a 48" tank.

It's my 1st SW Aquairum, but will be set up as a reef tank

I want to be confident on the 21st for the group by, so I'll ask the famous question:

32" or 48" for a 48" tank. I don't think I want any dark spots. Also it will be in a canopy

lastly I believe 90 degree optics on a 24" deep tank ?

I had the same question for my 120 but I was wondering 2 16's or 2 24's. Also Im assuming Id go with 90 degree optics in a 24"d tank?

I'v never actually seen a reefbreeders group buy. Are the prices based on how many units are sold per group or is the pricing determined by how many people part take in it? I'll have to keep searching the forums to see the thread pop up

Just got my light in, very impressed from the D-120 I have. Programing..well that's going to be a challenge.

Any one have a link or schedule to kinda go by for lighting?

I have a 48" 120g tank and am the proud owner of a Photon 48. To answer your question.....
Ron Reefman, who has done great work on Chinese Lights, and LEDs in general and has a 32" Evergrow Fixture [same as Photon 32], will tell you the 32" works fine for a 48" mixed reef tank. The darker ends do get enough light for lower light mushrooms and lps. He has a point.

But you said you don't want any dark areas, additionally a 120 is a wider tank- 24". In that case, I think you would be happy with the 48". You could use 2 24" fixtures but all you would add is an extra cord and higher cost. The 48 is actually 2 24" units in one case. Two controllable 16" units would work but at a higher cost.

I am enjoying my light. I have even, bright light and currently max out around 36% light strength. I use the new standard LED color spectrum now used in Logan's light and seems to work just fine. Logan did send me some extra LEDs so I could experiment but that is not a high priority for now. Some have mentioned the red LEDs cause a redish shadow. There is a photo of, I believe, it was a Photon 32. The tank was empty. Sand and rock make one hell of a difference and I have no such red caste to my light.

My light uses 90 degree lenses with 120 lenses on the red, uv and moon lights
As I said before, I made the right decision going with the 48" fixture. at least for my circumstances.

Good Luck
RJ

How do you have the p48 set up?

My P48 hangs from the ceiling. The hanging kit works well except mine seems a little short as I have standard 8 ft. ceilings and the cords at max length have my light about 13" over the water and I would like it a little lower. I will do it with light weight chain.

As to looks, I like the business like look of the fixture. The fans are barely audible, have only 1 power cord hanging from the rear and light spill is not objectionable [the light is in my TV room].

Finally finished my move to Reefbreeders and they definitely live up to the hype. This was not an easy transition for me. I've been a MH junkie for the last 15 of my 20yrs in reefing. Everything from 175s to 400s, I've tried it all in that time. MH w/T5s, MH w/PCs, and most recently MH wReefbrite Xho LEDs. I cannot be happier with these fixtures, but unfortunately I don't own a camera that can capture the different colors that are present in the display.

Tank is a 240 (8x2x2)
Reefbreeder 2-16" value fixtures and 1-48" controllable (90 degree optics mounted 10" off the water)
Reefbrite Xho 3-14"

Has that clam ever tried to grab you? Gadzooks!

I think I'm gonna go with the 48 after a closer look. It also looks like the light has a gap in the center of the LED's so my center brace would be a non-issue.

Just got my IT2040 this past week and have it over my 30g 24x24x12 frag tank. Keep in mind it's only been lit (and at very low acclimation percentages so far) for a handful of days so far.

However, my initial observation is it's overall just too 'warm' in color. Corals are flat/brown. Is it possible I might need to tweak my layout to get something 'cooler'? Or is it just an acclimation time and corals will eventually appear more like they did under my T5 fixture on my main tank?

Here's the layout of my IT2040 (90* optics):

For comparison I think I'm running 4 ATI Blue+ and 2 ATI Coral+ bulbs in my T5 fixture.

Opinions from the more experienced?
