Reefbreeders/(Evergrow OEM) Fixtures D120/IT20** series

I am curious since I will be buying a Photon32. What will the improvements be to the controllers on the photon series?

We will be setting the default intensity to 30% max,s o you do not need to program the light much initially, except to tweak the times, etc., and the half hour settings will be working properly after a power outage.

Hi Logan just wanted to say I got my lights just after i fly out back to work but the wife opened one parcel and was really impressed at the look of the lights.
I've got another 4 days onsite before I get a real look at them and get to have a play with the settings.

I have the Photon 24 with 90 optic lenses. If I were to remove some of the optics would the LED's have a 120 optics without the lenses?

My original D-120 had no lenses just the LED diode. I was led to believe that they were 90 degrees without optics installed.

no, they are 120s. The manufacturer says the optics on the LEDs are 90s, but they have way more spread then the 90 degree secondary optics.

Thanks Logan..I suspected the spread would be wider without the optics.

With the Photon 24 would I get a better spread of light towards the edge of a 60 gallon (36" wide) if I were to remove the 90 degree optics off the ends of the unit? Or, would that be useless.

You would get more spread

Thinking of changing from my 8 bulb sunpower to a photon series on my standard 120 gallon 4x2x2. Would you recommend the 48 inch or 2 16 inch units?

Power outages...my custom (dawn/dusk) settings on my photon 24 revert back to default settings.
Any way around this?
Thanks

Bucknuter,
Are you using the 1/2 hr or the 1 hr settings? I am using 1/2 hr and mine reverts back to the 1 hr settings after a power outage. Since I am currently at about 30% and default is 100%, my solution was to program the 1 hr intensities too. That way, when it reverts back to the 1 hr setting, it is at the lower intensity and I don't risk frying my tank. Mine seems to remember the programmed intensities, it just won't stay in 1/2 hr mode when it comes back on.

After reading the whole LED industry ketter thread, WILD, I contacted vannityp and he suggested how to implicate his method into a layout and this is what I came up with.
Using only 7 whites, this seems a bit crazy looking but bare with me.
Channel A
-22 royal blue
-5 violet
Channel B
-15 blue 460nm
-3 660 nm red
-3 green
-3 3500k
-4 4500k

With the exclusion of 6 cyan that were suppose to be used since reefbreeders does not provide cyan.

Cyan is a very important part of the equation. I would also add 4x 3500 WW and drop the 4500. The more channels, the better you can control them.

ronl...you're absolutely right. I actually programmed to the 1hr mode after the outage so it's default is good to go. I just checked and my .5hr settings are still there! Great tip I'm back to .5hr dawn to dusk mode. Thanks again.

That is really interesting! I've never used the 1/2 hour setting as I have 3 fixtures with controllers and we have regular power outages (lots of strong afternoon thunderstorms here). My 1 hour setting were an issue until I figured out what I was doing wrong. But if yours goes back to the 1 hour settings and still has the 1/2 hour setting held in memory (just not used at restart), that's great! I'll have to give that a try. Thanks for the great tip!

It does save the 1/2 hr settings, but it turns back on in 1 hr mode. When I go into custom settings, it shows it is in 1/2 hr mode even though it is actually in 1 hr mode. Without changing any settings, when I exit out of the menu it reverts to the 1/2 hr mode and settings.

If your 1 hr settings are similar to your 1/2 hr settings, you may not even realize it is in 1 hr mode unless you are looking at it at half past the hour in morning or evening when it is ramping up or down. It's about 4 or 5 keystrokes on the remote to get it back to 1/2 hr mode.

I recently purchased (4) EverGrow IT2080s and I have a few issues! I coming from 400W 14K Reeflux bulbs and even did a side by side comparison. First, the light is way to purple. My white sand looks very purple and I tried many different balance settings. I even tried covering up all four of the red LEDs with several layers of painters tape and even though it helped it was still too purple. I planned to use these fixtures on a Marineland 300DD (72x36x27) and it has two off-centered braces. The 32" fixtures seem like they would be blocked by the braces and create shadows.

What is the difference between Reef Breeders 32" Photon and the EG IT2080s?

Does the Reef Breeders 32" Photon have the same purple tint as the EG IT2080?

What would you recommend for mostly SPS 300 gallon (72x36x27).

How does the Reef Breeders 32" Photon compare to the Radion Pro?
