Ritteri anemone

This was the other anemone that I lost

Another stunner. What do you think Orion. Is my nem sick . I've been looking at it and am unsure. I do not have a good history with intervention , so only want to remove it as a last resort.

Classic deflation, could tell just by your first description, but the mind plays tricks.
That pic is very clear it needs treatment.

This could be happend when you don't have QT , I learned from my mistake to not add any new coral or fish to the display tank.

Well I've set up a qt/ treatment tank...... However I think I would have greater luck trying to score anthrax than cipro in the UK. It's prescription only , so I looked on the web but again could find nothing that I can get quickly . Any ideas anyone. Anemone wise it is still fully inflating till around 6pm then it deflates for around 4 hours , I am also seeing these small black balls coming from its mouth that I have herd other people mention . What are these ? Just poop ?

Would a vet or something not be able to prescribe what you need or some other profession who has access to it as you can prove why you need it.

Those black balls of zooxanthellae are basically the nem trying to rid itself of the infection. Doesn't work in our closed systems, another clear sign that it needs treatment.

I would also try a vet.

Hi everyone. Went to my Lfs and he has some tetracycline hydrochloride , can this be used to treat the nem ? I've got some cipro on order but it is still saying 2 weeks to UK and I don't think it will make it that long , want to treat as soon as possible.

Well I didn't get any answer to the above so had no choice but to wait for the cipro to turn up, it arrives tomorrow . Hooray! Nem still looks the same , it inflates half the dey then deflates and gapes . Just want to treat it now I've been panicking all week.

I've had a few people say this is not possible also, but I cannot think of any other reason other than cross contamination. The timing of it was so spot on and water Paramus show nothing. Anyway cipro treatment day 3 . Nems looking much better and has not deflated for 2 days. On day 1 I was really worried. I woke up to find my nem had virtually turned inside out , I have never seen anything like it , but I stuck with the programme , siphoned everything off, changed the water 100% and re-dosed cipro. Today it's looking more like its old self , but not going to shout about it too much, I'll feel better when it's back in the tank. Again thanks for all the help and advice everyone

highly doubt coral or fish will get an anemone sick but please someone chime in if I'm wrong
Species specific anemone to anemone contamination has way too many instances on RC alone for anyone to risk.

Cross species and genus is a bit less solid, but when you are dealing with such long lived animals it is not worth the risk to skip QT.

Sounding good and seeming as if you are making material progress.

Looking for that photo of Norman back in the main system in the future!

Pretty clearly a cross-contamination from your sick anemone as others have noted. Mechanism for this is unclear to me though. I have always assumed that newly shipped mags, stressed and weakened, are opportunistically infected by 'common' bacteria (that are present in all systems but healthy mags resist). So, an infected new arrival shouldn't affect established specimens that are healthy - yet they appear to. Does that mean that the infecting bacteria are exotic and not normally present in our tanks? Just thinking out loud ....

Either way, with animals as sensitive as mags, QT (and maybe prophylactic treatment), is essential. I've also had new clams infect existing ones; and we all know haw devastating a velvet outbreak can be to a fish population.

Day 4 , mouth closed and fully inflated, clown fish still freakin out, even though I have put a lovely plastic substitute in !

I am really glad he is better. If you are going to get other anemone, have antibiotic ready and QT them first before put them into your DT

Fish finger that's a classic ill have to try mine on them not sure the kids will be happy me kicking there fish fingers.
