Shallow reef tank Club

i love shallow tank look. I will be setting up a 20x20x10 soon..still trying to figure out number of leds

I just bought new bulbs for my T5's, but that will probably be my next upgrade sometime next year when I need new bulbs. I really hope the LED market will have some serious competition at that point so the price is even more reasonable, well I can hope. ;)

Couple pictures of my now 5 month old tank. 48" x 24" x 16" rimless.

Sweet tank. Who is the builder? GC?

Thanks. Yes, GC built the tank. The silicon left a bit to be desired but it's sturdy as heck, and it cleaned up easily w/ a razor blade. Their stands pretty much suck. I recommend their tanks, but certainly not the stands.

I was switching between that and the lagoon mode, but since adding the Polario I now have them on pulse mode (full blast at 7-8 seconds intervals) which works good with the standard setting the Polario is on, that being 15 seconds each direction. You running Tek's as well, how do you like those if so?

Yes, I have an 8-bulb Tek fixture. I bought it used here in town to quickly replace my busted LED fixtures. I have been happy with it over all. It puts out a lot more light than my dual 110W maxspect fixtures.

Does anyone make a 60"x24" completely rimless? I've seen GC brace their 4ft tanks at the bottom, I'm wondering if they would build a 5ft tank rimless at the top.

I got a quote from Lee Mar, but it is Eurobraced.

Here is mine. 48x30x20, external overflow with notched back panel. LED/T5 custom fixture. Just added water last month.

Very nice aquascape, i think i would maybe drop the branching LS tho, have you tried without it? Would be interesting to see.

I am really happy to have found this thread!! I have a 20g and a 57g rimless up and running. But I just bought the shallow 180g below and am looking forward to setting it up in the next couple weeks. I'll keep y'all posted on the progression once I get it here and begin the setup.

BTW, this photo was taken at the previous owner's home. I'll have to acquire LR for the tank, so it'll look different.

In the meantime I have lots to read through here!

All very nice looking tanks.

@ StarrM - You are going to have lots of cool options aquascaping that.

@ Adddo - I agree, I'd flip them up the other way maybe as well as they look odd upside down like that. Right now they remind me of concrete looking mangrove roots. :p

Thanks Dadekster! Yes I agree, which is a huge part of the fun. I plan to take my time picking out the LR. It may take me two or three months to get all four sides done, but that's okay. Right now I'm researching the last couple of pieces of equipment I need for the tank, one powerhead (I may splurge and get a Tunze) and what 2nd light to get. The one that came with the tank is a nice 6 t5 lamp. I'm struggling with the idea of whether to bite the bullet and get a MH lamp for the other side, the AquaticLife model with 3 MH bulbs, 2 actinic T5 HO lamps and moonlights. It's really nice, but man is it expensive. :fun5:

In the meantime, I have this 57g to play with too. But I really think the 180 is going to be the most fun. I sooo love all the corals and inverts. Man, am I going to be busy this winter! :D I will happily welcome anyone's comments or suggestions!

You can always look into LED's since many of our tanks are shallow making them a viable option imo. Just they are still pricey, even the DIY kits I've seen. When I think of all the money I could be saving long term instead of forking it over to PG&E (my utility company) it sooooo looks like something I really need to do though.

heres my tank, still in process of getting all my equipment before setting it up...i just had to post my tank too, really jealous of everybody's,haha...tank measure's 22x22x13...150mh,15k..two 14watt actinic's...
