Nick, Leonardo, and Bello,

Thanks for the kind words. I will be taking some more deepwater acro pictures soon. My build thread has more acro pictures for those who are interested.

Reeflover62, that's a sexy lokani. Send me a frag! :-)

Very impressive coral pictures.

But is there really such thing as "deep water" acropora? For example, Acropora lokani is found in shallow waters according to Veron. Is it really a "deep water" acropora?

I cannot find so called deep water acroporas in Veron's book. I do not want to start a big debate about it and spoil the party, but I just want to learn.

regards

DH

"Deepwater" is just another marketing hype term that's usually doesn't mean a whole lot other than it has few coralites and a smoother appearance.

This is exactly what I read in various information sources, but wanted to be sure.

It puzzles me when when people treat these corals differently from other acroporas. Most (if not all) corals depicted in this thread can actually be found in shallow waters.

Thanks Reefer ! I got a half inch frag from a friend about 4 yr ago. Super fast grower for me and have cut it many times .

These deep water acropora are really unique to all the other "normal" acropora.
Lets keep posting more pic please!

Very nice! What is the encrusted coral on the top left. Looks like my purple planet....

Rovster, it's a staghorn that was suppose to be all blue, but only holds it's blueish purple near the tips. The blue and green encrusting section is a part of that acro.

not sure of its name if was purchased as A. Fenneri, but after looing at Corals Of The World pictures it looks different. Not the most colorful but super interesting growth, tips look more green in person. It is about 6" across.
