SPS pests and treatment options

Hello everybody, my friend and i come for Taiwan,
and Taiwan is a island surrounded by ocean,
nature seawater and live rock are easy to get,so we always use those to set up our tanks,
for the reason that many of sps keeper always suffer from the pest(flatworms) and red bugs
recently, my friend found out some economic and useful way to kill this pest
here is his article:

ps: my friend is a chemical teacher.....
pps: i'll share my experience in the next two weeks....

this is very interesting, plz share as stated:)

I have a mini tank, I found some bug inside. And I use KCL to kill this bugs yesterday(3/17), it is the second time.
Tank introduce: 36cm*36cm*32cm(front:36*24*32 back:36*11*32 for skimmer) with fresh sea water
I use KCL in the front of tank, it is near 30L
According to SYJ’s method (see ph8.4 link http://www.ph84.idv.tw/vbb/showthread.php?t=191451), I prepare 75 g KCL for this procedure.
Step by step:
1. I took 40L fresh sea water from the coast (Longdong in TAIWAN).
2. Catch all your fish, hermit crab and sea slug(Dolabella auricularia) and put into the back side of tank
3. Let the temperature of fresh sea water close the temperature of my tank by heater(my tank is 25 degree C and sea water is 20 degree C now)
4. Mix fresh sea water and the water of my tank, I do not like the water changed too much.(I add 5L fresh water into my tank and suck 5L out of my tank for several times)
5. Stop the main cycle pump, suck the water from my tank so that the water in the front of tank cannot overflow to the back side.
6. Suck the water 2L more from the front side of my tank, and add 75g KLC into the 2L water and well mix.
7. Add the mixed KCL water into the front tank slowly.
8. Wait for 30-40 minutes. (see bug show during this time)

9. Suck out all water with KCL and add fresh water in tank.
10. Power on main pump
11. Done
dsc_0219~dsc_0227 is taken in the next day

At the first time I used KCL, 10+ Flat Worm went dead. The second time, only 1 Flat Worm died.
This is my worm before using KCL. (http://youtu.be/I6GNZqkc8eQ)

You can watch my tank in live.

Just found out my Milli colony has AEFW. It sucks, I dont have a qt tank so I took out the colony and put direct flow on it. This is so crazy I don't know what to do. The crazy thing is I haven't add any new frags for months. I threw the colony into the refugium, now I need to figure out a plan of action.

I wouldn't have placed that in my sump. You need to treat you milli and anything else in your tank.

what's the current treatment for red bugs with interceptor being discontinued? I'm look for an in tank treatment. Please let me know, i've got some red bugs to slaughter!!!!

Would UV kill these bugs if they were blasted off with a turkey baster and got into the water cycle? Or is the chemical treatment method about the only effective way?

Take a look at the Bayer Complete Insect Killer dip that a reefer on this forum tested on his acros. I personally made the dip from his specs and have eradicated AEFW and red bugs.

I promise you it works with less stress on the corals than "other coral dips", I was in shock when I was told an insecticide for my corals would work.

Sorry if im reviving what seems to be an old thread, just seen it with a recent post.

Anyone ever seen these before?

They almost look like some kind of isopod. Anyway they came off a German blue polyp sweet acro that was turning white. :uzi:

One more pic of the damage to the acro with one of these guys in the pic

I used this before I introduce the new corals to my dt.
