Stock list for new build

Mine pays no attention to my gem, black or mustard. They aren't even in the 860 yet. It's not aquascape yet. The fish are in a 4x4x40" holding bin with no issues

They are both my holy grail type fish. Clarions are actually cheaper then Conspics typically. I have no first hand experience with either but I have been told by people who know much more about Angels than I do that they can be aggressive

A gem is the holy grail for my 258. A wrought iron butterfly is the holy grail for my yet to be realized cold water tank. For my fowlr tank that I am setting up currently, a clarion is the holy grail of that tank. For me it was purely about preference of appearance over a conspic. I have heard about aggression from others as well I was curious if you had other reasons.

I will most likely go 0 for 3 on my holt grills but it it good to have goals.

I, like others, hope you keep us all updated with the list and your progress. Your stock list is a lot like mine for my fowlr (which some awesome improvements ) so I really want to see how yours goes.

Have you ever considered Mono Argentus?
In a larger tank a swarm of Mono Argentus (Monodactylus argenteus) can be very impressive. I've seen it once and was blown away.

Most people keep them as babies in fresh or brackish tanks. But that only works for juveniles. In the wild, as they grow, they move out into the ocean. In captivity, if kept in fresh or brackish water they will die. But if you put them into a saltwater tank they will thrive and form a real swarm of silver .
I tried it once myself but they quickly outgrew my rather small tank and I had to give them away.

I have been able to finds Gems for just under 2K so one is a real possibility. The Clarions are more colorful than Conspicuous but they both carry the same allure if you will. Simon the convicts are turning out to be like the pyramids and I haven't found anyone who has been able to keep a group of them since they usually come in not very healthy. If Karen can get faith and Fabio to breed s interruptus is a real possibility. I have thought about monos but the get way too big just like pilotfish do and they don't add the diversity in looking for

If you are looking for a group of fish that will school, Mono argentus can be a great way to go. The only caveat from my experience, is that they are aggressive eaters and remind me of a little school of piranha at feeding time.

...Also, have you looked into any of the Maori wrasses at all? My broomtail is one of my all time favorites, but tripletail and snooty Maori wrasse are also really cool and stay a bit smaller.

Yes I would love a juv broomtail, they are amazing looking fish and would add another wrasse to the tank. You do have a pool for a tank though

An argument can be made that 625 gallons could definitely be considered a pool... The biggest difference is that yours has these cool clear sides that people can see through!

atleast 12 Pyramids if not more. I have never had any issues with my 5, have thought about getting more.

Conspicuous Angel
False personifer (2)
Scribbled (2)
Bandit 2 or more
Crosshatch male and female
Goldflake
Bellus (3)
Declivis
Tinkeri
Burgess
Maze angel
Pyramid 12+
Black tang
Unicorn Tang
Orange spot filefish
Moorish idol 2 or 3
Blue line angel
Saddled butterfly
Regal angel(2)
Achilles
convict tang 5 or 6

Maybe even pair up more fish

With tank this size I would do the things that cannot be done with a smaller tank, say 300g, instead of just doubling the amount of fish. A group of convicts have been brought up. How about a group of Idols. Once the group is decided then add a large angel or two then one of each of all the dwarf angels ...

Happy new year to all!

Most accounts I have heard of doing Idols didn't end well and they ended up with a single Idol. I like the convicts because I really like the Polyzona, but they always come in skinny and 50-75% will never make it. Unfortunately I seem to only get excited about the rare fish, specifically angels

My 3 pyramids never showed any aggression to each other or other fish in the tank. They are not easy but once I found some healthy ones they went thru QT like champs.

That is the biggest thing holding me back. I would like a group of 10 or 12 of them if I went that route and don't have a LFS that can get me that many at a time (more like 16 since more than one probably won't come in very healthy) that's really holding me back from getting any

catching up....somebody else is very close with breeding the interrupta, which is great news....clarion are actually more of an issue when small, especially amongst themselves...can get you to a gem person...

I have done similar to what you are contemplating numerous times and believe it or not 625 is not that big for the huge number of fish you want to put in there. The fish list is fabulous but long term not realistic in my humble opinion. Good luck and keep us updated on your progress.

The lists now is a far cry from where it started. I will end up with 15-20 fish total. Ted, sounds like I need to get in touch with you!

Just fixed the closed loop (had a leak that was fixed but I didn't trust) and also hooked up 1" with a valve for easy water changes. Full again now. 2 months out from fish
