hey guys, don't be worry too much about the clams... This situation may only happen one in a thousand cases of angel nipping clams. However, my angel just happened to be the unlucky one:D I think he deserved that tho since he kept nipping at the clam, and thinking that the clam couldn't do any thing to harm him. And at one moment, he just sticked his head a little too far into the clam:eek1:

here are some more pics that i found in my old folder:

You can see the relative size of the angel compared to the clam in the second pic:eek2:

Thanks for the pics, just when you thought your thread was in the dead file.

no problem.. it's cool to look at these pics again... i showed it to some of my friends/ relatives today and we had good laughs:D

HOLY COW...!! :eek1:

I have noticed a bunch of two year old threads getting bumped in the last few days. I think some people just learned how to use the search feature.

How did this thread get picked up on after two years anyway? Can't for the life of me think what search terms you would be using to get a thread of a clam killing an angelfish.

I would have pried it open with a screwdriver. I couldn't have watched it go down that way. Sorry for your loss.

its been some time ago, but still sorry for you loss

Ouch! I had a seahorse get caught in my clam once (yes, I know...shouldn't keep seahorses in full reef tanks--now I know why). It was strange, I had the seahorse for a few months, and he always stayed away from the clam until one evening he tried to latch one of the clam's openings. It was awful...I tried to pry the clam apart, but I realized that I'd just kill the clam in the process. It clamped down at the base of the tail. My b/f at the time convinced me to leave it alone. I decided not to kill the clam to try to save the seahorse since the clam cost a lot more money. You know...the power of economics. We came back from dinner, and the clam let go of the seahorse. Both escaped unscathed. I was worried that the seahorse would die and the clam's mantle would be ripped to shreds. I wish I'd taken pics, but I didn't think of it.

Wow, those shots are sad but impressive. Just Mother nature at work. I will have to think long and hard before I get a clam after seeing the pix. :eek1:

Thanks for sharing!!

btw... Gawain1974, I'm glad both your clam and seahorse were fine.

I'm not sure if this is true for fish, but my friend has told me that inverts like slugs don't have a nervous system that's developed enough to feel pain. She's a dual major--marine biology and molecular biology.

I hope it didn't hurt.
