Thumbs up for Ozone!

$20 bucks
how much are you going to spend to retrofit it.

HONESTLY
I was very concerned when I purchased the Enaly rated at 200 mg per hour. But as I mentioned in my previous post it took me a month of 24/7 to get it to from 284mv to 376mv.
If I had done that with a 70 mgph , I'd be in the 300 range today. I think you should go with a bigger unit, you can always use the controller to level it off at where you want it to be.

But thats my 2 cents and of course bottom line is you have to be happy with what you are doing.

i can retro fit it for nothing. i have all the scrap acrylic and tubing connectors i need.

How big is your tank? How long has it taken other peopel to get there ORP wher ethey want it and clear there water?

140 gal display
55 gal fuge
55 gal sump (probably only filled at any given time to 40 gal under normal circumstances)

Good question? I'm not sure.

fishfood2581, you should be just fine with a 75 mg/hr unit on your setup. I run a Red Sea 200 mg/hr unit on my 400 gallon system and I only run it at 50% so I'm only using 100 mg/hr.

IMO, IME, and from what I've read in the hobbyist literature is that you don't want to necessarily run your ozone really hard to keep a set ORP. What you want to do is find a small enough dose where you acheive the crystal clear water and other benefits without dosing gobs of harmful ozone into your tank. IIRC, several experts recommend about .18 mg/hr of ozone per 1 gallon of water in your system.

From what I've learned from running ozone the past 6 months is that ORP is only an indicator of tank conditions. Every tank is different so every tank will have a different ORP. Eventually, you will find an appropriate ORP level for your tank. That is what you will want to try to maintain. There will be times when it will drop 20-30 points (e.g. when feeding) but it will generally hover around the same number. I think it is when people think they HAVE to hit an ORP of 400 (just an example) that they risk dosing too much ozone. Person A's tank may not take much O3 to get to 400 but person B's tank may take so much that it becomes toxic to the inhabitants. I do still recommend an ORP controller to prevent fatal overdoses. I would also recommend a unit that is adjustable like the Red Sea units. That way you can find out what dosage works for YOUR tank and run it at that dose. If it isn't adjustable you could also probably run it on a timer.

Travis;
I totally agree with what you wrote. If I came off as saying that bombarding ones tanks with ozone was safe then that is certainly not what I meant.
As far as the choice for ozone generator; the expensive Red Sea 200 mg unit is great! but I've accomplished the same results with a Milwakee OrP/Controller along with an inexpensive ozone generator at less then 1/3 of the cost of the Red Sea. Only time will tell if the inexpensive unit will last as long as the Red Sea or any other expensive model generator.

No problem. Sometimes a lot of what we say can be misconstrued over the internet when we aren't face to face. I just didn't want fishfood2581 to think he/she needed to dump excessive amounts of O3 in their tank to acheive good results. I also just wanted to "recap" my opinion on O3 use from my past 6 months of use. I wasn't attacking you either so, hopefully, I didn't come off that way.

ok, after reading all of the stuff on ozonizers , im now totally lost, i received a sanders model 100 and i was trying to figure out if i need to use or can use this thing, i only have a 55 gal tank with a few misc fish no coral or any thing fancy like that, i have no clue how to use it or even remotely how to set it up, i have received a oceanic model skimmer with it so from what i have seen they some how connect togother, both are not hooked up so im up for any help here......

well i ordered a Enaly unit and a orp controller.Since alot of people are having good results with the enlay i went ahead with it.I also ordered the small car unit,i'm going to try and rig it up for my nano,if not i got a decent air filter for my car,God knows i need it..hehehe

does anyone know where i can geet some kinda info on setting up a ozonizer with a skimmer, im a little new at this i have both and got them free, the catch was i dont have any instructions on them....

I'm learning too so i don't want to give you bad advise.I ordered a ORP controller i think thats a must. From what i've read you should start slowly.Theres alot of great info in this thread.I'm going to hook mine up to the air hose of the venturi on my skimmer

after reading that artical, i think for now im going to leave it alone, they were talking about the orp controller and the guy who wrote the artical said he hasent even checked his in like 3years so ??? he was talking about how the ph range and effects it all ,i think my mind went blank after that. my water is clear,my test in my kit are all good, i have a little brown alge and some green alsonothing major the tank has only been up since the first of the year so i think i will try and not push my luck to much... haha

If I buy an enaly ozonizer with a built-in air pump, can I still somehow hook it up to my venturi or do I need to run it with an airstone?

Hi,
Can i see some pics how the airdryer looks like?
Is it possible to make the DIY?
Please some advice :)

Thanks a lot

Home made air dryer.

1lb of desiccant on ebay for about $5.00.

1 old container (from activated carbon) or ((coffee) or (whatever)
drill 2 holes to fit 1/4" dia. tubing on the screw on top of the container.
place the 1/4" diameter tubing thru the top of the cap so that it reaches the bottom of the container, the tubing need to be long enough on the other end to reach the Ozone Generator.

Fill the container with the descant and
Walla! and air dryer.

Air enters through the 2nd hole on top passes thru the desiccant and exit from the tubing in the bottom of the container into the OG.

Optional:
To prevent a piece of the desiccant getting sucked into the tube. You can tie wrap a piece of mesh cloth (like the kind you use for bandages) on to the end of the tubing inside the container.

mathman, I don't see how and it does not look like the unit comes apart.

I purchased both units but I prefer the 1 w/o the pump for this application.

Good question:
If it has an airpump buit into it and the unit is closed, where does it get its air from to pump out?

I'll have to go and take a closer look at the enaly with the pump but I don't see how you could use this model with an air dryer.
