So.. I decided to return my red sea.. and get this

Think I can run it w/out a controller ;)

brahm, I would suggest spending a little extra and getting a larger unit. Those ones are more for 5 gallon or smaller nanos. Not sure if it could meet the demands of a 90.

Well I recieved my enaly ozone generator last week and am running it with a milwaukee controller backed up with a timer(max of 4 hours available a day over a 12 hour period). The ORP has risen from a stabilized 305 to 375 over the course of the week. The water clarity is noticeably better. Things in general look a little happier in the tank as well. I am not running the ozone in a skimmer. I am running the ozone in a small chamber in my sump with carbon on the outflow. This seems to be working well and I may leave this current setup in place.

I am also not planning on using a air dryer on it.

I have a 180g, and a couple questions,

1) Would a 50mg or 100mg with airdryer/controller be best for 200g total volume

2) Should I run it through the Euro-Reef skimmer using a T or run it through a O3 reactor?

3) How stable is ozone, if it has to travel from one end of a 65g sump with 1500gph through the sump, will it not stand a chance of being reactive once it enters the display?

4) Using O3 with mixed tanks? Will the ozone help break down the chemicals used in allelopathy?

Any advice on any of these?

Also, is it better to run smaller dosage 24/7 or larger dose for short periods?

I would assume small doses 24/7 as apposed to a big shock once a day...at least that s how i plan on running my when I get it this week.

I am no expert but small doses 24/7 would be best. I run mine over 12 hours because the tank is in my bedroom and I want to minimize any exposure while we are sleeping in there. I have not noticed a heavy ozone smell but there is a very faint smell during the day (no more than an ionic breeze though)

I would get the 100 mg vs the 50 MG unit.

Skimmer or reactor will work fine.

Ozone is very reactive and should not make it into the main display but, run some carbon for peace of mind. You do not want free ozone in the main display. The reactions ideally will occur in the skimmer or ozone reactor.

Ozone breaking down allelopathy? Good question but knowing the molecular structure of the compound would be the only way to know for sure. Perhaps the chemistry forum could help with that one. I would guess it does break it down.

Please do use an air dryer. Humid air can decrease the efficiency of the generator by up to 70%. Humid air can cause the generator to produce nitric acid. And humid air can cause lime to build up on the corona discharge.

Those are 3 very good reasons to use an air dryer.:)

As with anything in this hobby it is always better to run smaller dosages over longer time periods. It keeps your tank environment more stable with less fluctuations in water chemistry. Stability is one of the biggest requirements for sps corals.

Yes the air dryer is a good idea. I am going to open up the generator in a month and see how it looks. If I can manage without the air dryer by cleaning the unit I will do that. I have heard that the efficiency is less without an airdyer but the unit I have is a 200-300 mg/hr unit which is overkill for my tank so a decrease in efficiency is welcome.

I suppose I like to learn the hard way some times. ;) Thanks for the information and feedback.

YOU CAN MAKE AN AIR DRYER with $5

Get an empty coffee jar, fill it with dessicant you purchase bulk on Ebay and make 2 holes in the the jar on opposite extremities.
Air will come in, pass thorugh the dessicant and then go out of the jar and into the generator.

Thanks Travis, that's what I thought but some things are more effective in larger doeses, like 25% water changes every 2 weeks is better than 2 gallons a day...

BIG QUESTION: how dangerous is O3? The effluent AIR coming out of the skimmer: is a carbon chamber on top of the skimmer necessary? I'm using a Red Sea 100mg and I can't find a carbon chamber for a EuroReef CS8-4 skimmer, or in fact any EuroReef!?!?!! Any advice? Will the ozone get into the room?

well Ive recieved my AC III PRO unit, and have it set up, however if I plug the Enaly unit in none of my X10 system works. As soon as I plug in the enaly, everything via X10 is dead, and the Enaly runs 24/7 no matter what x10 imput it recieves.

Thoughts?

Also, I set up a make shift carbon filter for the ozone output (I think Im gonna get a ozone reactor) it seems to be working well since I dont have a hint of smell even when its running alot. How long does the carbon last in these types of situations? I used one of those 2 inch round Kent containers ( for kalk etc) drilled an input, and output in the lid, filled it with carbon with the hose going to the bottom, then stuck a cotton ball in the output to hold the carbon in. Is this like a 1 month/hour/year? supply of carbon for a 200-300 mg/hr unit? (no air dryer) Is it safe to say when I start to smell it, its time to change the carbon?

Are those beads rechargable? Do they change color when exhausted/recharged? If so, I'm stocking up and making a bigger air dryer.

O3 is very dangerous, in fact deadly. If you can smell it in the air then you need to do something about it. I'm not too familiar with the euro reefs as I've never owned one. Where does the air come out of the skimmer? Is there holes on top of the collection cup? If so, just fill a filter bag with carbon and set it on top of the holes.

I'm jealous you got the new AC III PRO. I'll be stuck with my AC PRO for a while. I've heard several reports of the enaly units not being compatible with x-10 technology. I've heard of people even having the enaly "hard-wired" to the AC via a DC4 and they still had problems. I think the Enaly's need to be controlled with some other type of controller.

Carbon, when used to filter air, will last a LONG time. Should last a few months at least. You will know when it is exhausted when you start to smell the ozone.

WOW HOO got my Red Sea 100 Plus today, hooked up just the ORP sensor.. to see where i was at...

hahaha.. 12mv..

um.. wait.. read read.. damn I gotta wait 6 hours.. been a while I'm up to 170 now. I can't wait to see what it is in the morning..

my ORP is still reporting about 225, its been in there for about 40 hours now. How long does it usually take to read accuratly? Should I be concerned with this low number?
