i was just wondering what parts you used to drill the collection cup for the drain fitting. if you can tell me the kind of bit and the fitting used that would be great. thanks

I used a 1/4 NPT tap . The hole size was on the label of the tap .

The fitting is a 1/4" NPT to 3/8" barb .

HTH's

OK , small update .

This isn't going as well as I planed . I know how to set up a big quiet tank , now I need lessons for a small one ......:p

Here's a shot of the back plumbed for a CL . Using a Mak-4 . and a AGA overflow kit .
tankback.jpg

Here's my first change , I made a home made Durso and got rid of that crappy pre-made one .

durso.jpg

Here's my second change , I switched out the mak-4 for a Mag 12 .

The mag has a little less flow from it , But it's sooooo much quieter .:D

I guess the learinng process never ends :D

looking very sweet so far ;)

the down fall of many external pumps is the noise, just have to check how the mag affects temperatures of the tank,

joe did you hook the penductors?, its a mag9 right?, and how its doing, its the flow nice and spread, and plenty? thx

are you going to hook a small uv to this setup, coral-life makes a nice unit, I have an 9w, and 18w, very compact and the 18w has a nice indicater that tells you its on, on its side :D

you have two holes on the overfow, 1" and 3/4" right?, have you thought about using both, to divede the flow for noise levels and a back up just in case of an emergency,

have you thought about a top off unit, the osmolator looks very secure,

what about cal/alk demand, kalk reactor and or cal reactor? will it fit ?

and I guess don't forget the socks, man I love them keep things nice and clean, I can notice this specially because of the beckett head :D

well keep up the good work,

sam

Penductors are hooked up , but to the mag 12 in the closed loop .That one is nice and quiet .:p It's blasting the front glass to get a spead indirect flow to the tank .

I have a 25w Aqua UV in there , I like to be a little on the heavy side so that the flow through it isn't too much .

My top off will be a Kent float valve .

Calcium and alk will be handled by B-Ionic .

Filter socks ?:worried: The only socks I will use go on my feet !

Thanks Sam , have a nice day . I'm off to nerac .:D

Happy Reefing,
Joe

Joe, if you can keep the reactor - I'd do that.
I've found a way to grow enough stonies to have pretty high 2-part demand [gallons are getting too regular a use of LFS credit ] ... and while it `works', sometimes `most stable' it's not. Remember, this is less water - so IMO slightly larger swings of params - no end of world, but worth consideration.
Just backseat-driving ;)

As for pumps, my external LG 3 series doesn't have a fan ... there are some others like that which might suit fine for the sump-pump and are much quieter. How much do you want to move thru the sump?

What are you doing for water movement in the tank?

Hi Mark ,

I'll try without the CR first . If I don't like it , I'll gat a small one later . Thanks though .:)

I finaly went with the Eheim 1260 , It's to my liking so far .

Here's a shot of the final cut of my flow and return .
The outside pipes is the CL , a Mag 12 W/SQWD and penductors . The inside pipes is the return a Eheim 1260 going through an UV sterilizer .

Looking great Joe. I can't wait to hear your opinions on the MR-2 beckett vs the Deltec RC when it comes to wet skimming and stable water levels in the skimmer once you get everything up and running.

Thanks guys .:)

Me too , I'm a little nervouse about it though .

Makes me want to get rid of my 120 and get a 58 ;D

Nah ! The 120 is a better size for those fuzzy sticks ......:)

any updates?...soon to be setting up a similar 58 with a deltec hopefully. curious how things are working out!
thanks
tg

I am adding a closed loop to my 58, not drilled, using Luchbuckets HOB intake idea. I was told that penductors do not work on mags because they are not pressure rated.

I cannot wait to sse yours up and running because I am worried that 1500gph on my 58 might be too much for the sand.

I'm pretty sure his isn't going to have sand, so flow can be as much as the corals want.

UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE!!!!

I see sombody Knows me .....

Updates? you want updates ???

OK !:p
