Wazzel's mostly SPS 60 Cube

Just for fun, this is the tank I am getting as it is now.

Lots of mushrooms and a big leather that will be sold, both the yellow tangs, the pair of clowns and other fish are gong to be gone too. I am keeping the purple tang. There are a few SPS and LPS that I will probably keep.

Good thing you didn't tear your tank down the night before. How can you back down on a deal like that the day of? Sorry to hear that.

Maybe a blessing in disguise. Now you can plan for exactly what you want and you already have the things you will need for the transition.

kind of sucks but no damage done. Getting lots of growth shading. Picked up a used hydra52 so that will help.

dang that tank looked pretty sweet. i think build and setting the tank up is the best part. that lil pack from your friend is going to be pretty sweet especially the strawberry shortcake and Tierra del fuego

There's no shortage of used tanks and many of them great deals. Lots of guys bail on this hobby once they discover how much work it is.

Check Craig's list and you'll find tanks all the time.

News. Wife has agreed to a 6ft tank. Now do not get excited. This will be a long project since I do not want to credit card any purchases. I put my 60 together cash only. Do not know when I will actually get started, when I do I will start a new thread, but until then I will just carry on here.

Awesome! I'm the same way, cash only for toys. :hammer:

Well, I got a second hydra 52 (used with just a few months burn time) to deal with the shading on the steep side of my tank. It had finally gotten to the point where is was becoming an issue. Ordered mounting rails, they should be in later this week. Any suggestions on lighting? I am thinking to take what I have now and reduce it 20% across the board, maybe leave the deep blue just a tad higher to get a slightly more blue look to the tank. I plan on doing a multi-month acclimation starting at 40% reduction. Corals can take the high levels give time to adapt. Just remember I do run at 96% of total power now. The setting I am thinking about would be a significant bump with the two fixtures.

I'm very interested to see how the corals fare with more coverage! For your cube two hydras result in light coming from 8 different clusters, that should be a big improvement for sure.

That's a bummer about the missed opportunity on the tank...keep your eyes open though. I'm amazed at how many nice setups are sold off every day!

I have been happy with results except for the shading I am now getting. I knew the day would get here where it would be an issue. I still do not think you need 2x the units, but the size of my tank vs recommendations is going to end up that way. It was something I was going to need for the 6ft tank anyway.

My tank has been looking odd since I got home from vacation last Sunday. I think the kid we hired to watch our zoo fed my tank the same food we feed our perch, which is cichlid pellets. I know he did not feed them the food I prepared, because it was all still in the fridge. Nothing looks in danger of dying or anything, it just looks off. Not sure if he fed them that or not.

I don't understand why manufacturers have not built lights with smaller clusters to improve coverage.

It will be interesting to see what 8 clusters over your tank does to eliminate shadowing.

I have no idea, why they cling to large puck designs. The hydra52 has more than enough power, just not enough spread. I suspect it will do wonders to two areas of my tank. The far left portion of my scape is really steep and the far right has a small section in the shade. Getting two lights 6" off center will take care of both those issues. If should get the 6 corals that are growing slowly to kick it in gear and color up.

If that's the case they probably didn't eat the pellets and they all just decayed in the tank. That's enough to make the fish look less colorful, lacking diet, and the tank to be out of balance, maybe even have/had some ammonia.
