News. Wife has agreed to a 6ft tank. Now do not get excited. This will be a long project since I do not want to credit card any purchases. I put my 60 together cash only. Do not know when I will actually get started, when I do I will start a new thread, but until then I will just carry on here.
I'm very interested to see how the corals fare with more coverage! For your cube two hydras result in light coming from 8 different clusters, that should be a big improvement for sure.Well, I got a second hydra 52 (used with just a few months burn time) to deal with the shading on the steep side of my tank. It had finally gotten to the point where is was becoming an issue. Ordered mounting rails, they should be in later this week. Any suggestions on lighting? I am thinking to take what I have now and reduce it 20% across the board, maybe leave the deep blue just a tad higher to get a slightly more blue look to the tank. I plan on doing a multi-month acclimation starting at 40% reduction. Corals can take the high levels give time to adapt. Just remember I do run at 96% of total power now. The setting I am thinking about would be a significant bump with the two fixtures.
I have been happy with results except for the shading I am now getting. I knew the day would get here where it would be an issue. I still do not think you need 2x the units, but the size of my tank vs recommendations is going to end up that way. It was something I was going to need for the 6ft tank anyway.
I don't understand why manufacturers have not built lights with smaller clusters to improve coverage.
It will be interesting to see what 8 clusters over your tank does to eliminate shadowing.
I think the kid we hired to watch our zoo fed my tank the same food we feed our perch, which is cichlid pellets.
