Does anyone else end up just throwing away disposable money (and anemones?)

I got a great deal on an RBTA a week ago.. it immediately attached its foot in a spot and didn't move, even ate nicely last night. All of a sudden I come home from work today and its just gone. Only clue it even existed was a tiny chunk of it with three shriveled tentacles. I've scoured every rock and disturbed the whole tank, there's no other trace of it.

This is the SECOND time this has happened. The first RBTA I had a few years ago vanished the same way.

I should mention the power did breifly go out last night for about 75 minutes. The 'nem was perfectly fine and in its spot when things turned back on, and the temp/chemistry was A-OK. I don't think this would have caused any odd behavior.
 
Was the water cloudy? I am asking because if it was chewed up by a powerhead, cloudy water is certain.

To answer your question, I think many of us feel like we have wasted some or alot of money on anemones. I bought a couple of gigantea's before online only having them die a week or two later due to God knows what. I gave up doing that, it's very very frustrating no doubt. All we can do, is to learn what signs to look for and the bewares before buying them.

Understood.. hell, I'd almost rather have it been chewed by SOMETHING than to just up and disappear. Dead either way, but at least it would be an answer. But yeah, water crystal clear, and no dead nem smell, either.

On the brighter side, thats got to be the best way to lose a nem. No crash, no cloudy water, no other things died due to it's death/disapearance.

Yeah, you're right.. I needed to sleep on it and be a little less ****ed off.. :P

I can say for sure I'm done with nems, at least for a long time. I don't think I have the lighting for a clam, so my clowns will have to deal with a frogspawn if they want to host.
 
Are you sure its gone for good? I recently got a GBTA about 2 weeks ago. Hes been moving around a lot and doing the inflate deflate cycle. There was a 2 day period where I couldn't find him and was pretty sure he died but then it turned back up.
 
I had a small rbta that was doing good for about a month, then it up moved into the rock work and didn't see it for a week.It moved back up toward the top and has been doing great for 2 years.
 
I got a plain old green BTA a week ago, fed it, and it immediately disappeared. Found it a day later hiding in a cave. I don't know why it's doing this, but I'm giving it a chance to acclimate as it sees fit. Perhaps this is the way new 'nems behave...

Hl DaVinci ; I have a green bubble that bleached out when I first got it , now it has its green color back but I have bought 2 new rose bubbles only to lose both by disintergrating into a stinky eggy gelatinous goop. How frustrating !! I thought that maybe my 3 clowns beat them to death. Good Luck.....
 
The tiny chopped piece with the three tentacles tells me your RBTA was probably "eaten" (or at least partially eaten) by a powerhead or pump. You may still have a larger, damaged piece hiding out somewhere in your tank (backs, undersides of rocks, most likely).

Being as I did come across that tiny chunk I mentioned, I'm fairly sure its gone.. maybe eaten by the jawfish? Who knows.. I also hope that if it did just cram itself into a rock that I didn't trap it. I moved the whole tank around looking for it (and who ever gets the 'scape to go back the way they had it?)
 
Next time, IMHO, I would just let things be....I've many nems but 2 of them were minced by an MP10 about 8 months ago and have made a complete recovery. It's amazing seeing what was left of them and how they look today.

I've done it myself too but I feel it happens all to often that a hobbyist adds a nem to there display and then they try to change their 'scape completely because the nem decided to hide somewhere. They need to acclimate, they won't put themselves in a position to be light-starved etc.

I hope you're right! If it hid, its hidden well.. I checked every nook and cranny I could find. Also, no cloudy water or smell to note.
 
I had a green bta do the same. In the tank, good for a week, ate, then gone. That waas almost a month ago with still no sight or smell of it.
