I'm thinking about swapping to LED. what's a good setup to cover about 3ft x 10ft tank? 30 inch deep.

mix reef, mainly LPS.

any modern large fixtures, easy programming? prefer 2-3 fixtures

Radions would be last choice. dont want to setup 6-8 of them

anyone has experience with Orpheck Atlantik V4 gen2?

i can probably get away with 4-5 of those

I dont personally use them but I do know a few people that run them, as the orpheks do put out a lot of light/ par and the only complaint is the app.

I run 4 of these on my 8ft sps rig and am very happy with them.

I wanted to be able to grow any SPS anywhere in the tank so I added other supplements but 4 would have been more than enough to do lps/softies on my 96"x30" footprint.

Have you considered Phillips coral care light. Bug great coverage and designed to replicate t5 color mixing

nice didn't even know about Philips.

would you recommend this over the Orphek?

i also noticed the Philips is 24x24 coverage. tank is 36" wide. might be a little issue here. if I get 5 of them, do i stagger it or think they will be fine in the middle?

how is the APP and controlling the lights? easily connect?

Orpheks have good coverage but I don't think the quality is there yet.. I ran one for 2 years before purchasing a second one... Didn't realize one of the channels went out on the first light... for months till my sps started to loose their colors... I had the same thing happened to the 2nd unit within the first year. Orpheks send me replacement leds to me to solder which wasn't too bad of a process, but I feel like if i'm paying that much for a unit I shouldn't have to worry whether all the channels are working or not... also their app is pretty horrible hasn't been updated and years. Aside from that unit push out a lot of par and coverage is great on them, but the cons outweigh the pros. I ended up to switching over to G5.

btw the coverage on the G5 have improved from the G4. I have a 8 ft x 36 and I'm running 4 units, you will do fine with 5 units specially since you switching to fowl only. You are welcome to come by and see them for urself.

im trying to not spend 5000 on lighting lol.. but it looks like i may have to.

picked up an Emperor and Queen angel. along with a Moorish Idol.

i will see what coral i can keep alive with them lol.

with a baby and fishing.. hardly have time for coral care

Assuming you don't have rock completely back to front the Phillips would cover fine. They have tons of spread.

I have 4 Gen 5 Radions and it covers my 72" X 36" deep tank.

Switching to LEDS didnt save me any money. Just had to pay more electricity for heaters. If its budget LEDS you're looking for, maybe buy the AI SOL set from Byschovin? Things grows everything perfectly fine.

Like HerseyB said, Orphek LEDs are ok. Burns out quick. Terrible app. QC isnt there.

How ever many Orpheks you think you would need, you could light that tank with less Radions. IMO, you could light that tank with 4 Gen 5 Radion Blues. I am saying this based on the BRS testing data of lights. The Orphek is no match for the Radion Gen 5 and it's not even close when it comes to spread.

non sense from this guy. you would have large gaps and shadows with four gen 5 on a 10 foot long tank. The Coral care lights are much bigger and give larger spread and I think you would need 5 of those to do it right.

I'm not speaking from feeling. I'm speaking from cold hard data. If you want I can put up the data to support my statement or you can trust me.

For a mostly LPS tank you don't need much power, you can easily get away with less fixtures and just raise them up higher to account for the shadowing.

I have 4 G5's on my tank, and it's almost identical width and depth as yours. I run my radions at a peak of 75%, a very steep peak for a short period of time. They are 8" approx off the water. I'd say average is more like 55% intensity. I have lots of sticks. 5 G5's, maybe 4 raised up, would easily light your tank with what you are tying to accomplish.

I do like that the Phillips have built in power supplies. Hiding all those big bricks is a problem. Lots of spread but not as much oomph compared to the G5. Not enough blues for me but it's a well built light from a good company and a good distributor that will stand behind their products.

I think either way you'll be happy with whatever you decide.
