What's Your Dream Showpiece Fish?

I love the all of the types mandarin dragnets, they are my number one of all time.

My dream fish that I have been trying to track down is the White tail Bristle tooth tang however I'm not having much luck.

My friend joe can get you one Cindy

My dream fish would definitely be an Achilles Tang. I've put a deposit down on an amazing Achilles, but unfortunately he was scared and jumped out of the stores display tank. After that happened, I decided to have them bring in another but unfortunately the one they brought me in, was extremely malnourished, refused to eat any form of food and wasted away within 2 weeks of being brought home.

I'll definitely some day try one again when i have the money to throw down on one again, but until then, I will simply observe their beauty in someone else's tank.

I have Achilles
My tried 3 times
The first one I sold to a friend because I was afraid of ick outbreak again that kills more than 30 large Angels that I had ( long story short I chicken out)

Second one I tried was killed by my large 8" powder blue, it intimidate it so stop Eating in the qt.

My current Achilles have ick since I got it 8 + months ago but it's super fat and the boss of the tank

You're tank is absolutely stunning and I love your Achilles tang! I hope to some day be able to purchase one again that will have the same beauty and health as yours; and as the saying goes, the truth is in the pudding- your fish all look so happy and great! Thanks for sharing :)

Flame Wrasse, Moorish Idol, Sohal Tang, Queen Angel, Have got to me my favs w the Idol topping the list!!! When I get a tank large enough... (dream, dream, dream)

A Harem of Goldback Triggers Xanthichthys caeruleolineatus or a harem of crosshatch triggers Xanthichthys mento.

I've never seen one in person but I would love to have a white cheek tang(powder grey) all tangs are amazing imo I love them all but thats def my fav

Dependnig on my mood, royal gramma, sixline wrasse, ocellaris clownfish, or mandarin goby. Candy basslets are also very nice.

I actually got into the hobby because of a pic of a royal gramma.

I'd like to have one of the nice C. shepardi that were collected recently....

~Michael

Still not convinced those aren't hybrids. I'm not up on all the collection locations and species distributions etc. But most of the hybrids that have come in have been small and those fish look much larger and more mature which could be why the colors look different. Even when flames and rusty's are commonly sold they are much smaller than a big male would be and the smaller "shepard's" that were collected had similar coloration to the hybrids. My two cents.

That being said, I think it is hard to beat an Emperor Angel for a show piece fish.

I would also like to have various harems of dwarf angels that hybridize in the wild. Like a pure lemonpeel, a half black, and hybrid all in the same tank, or a flame, rusty, and hybrid in the same tank.

Wrough Iron and Tinker's butterflyfish have always been a favorite of mine as well.

but the locations are everything. in cebu/philippines there are plenty of flames/rusty as well as the hybrids but in guam neither of those fish are really there (flames are reported but i didn't see any on 30+ dives, rustys never documented). even coral beauties are deeper than normal due to the shepards being so prevalent. alot of the fish pictured are the same size as the standard hybrids coming in - the smallest one at the end is barely an inch. i will try to take a pic comparing the two morphs side by side this week, but C. shepardi is what these are, as they were described collected at that location. some are going to Cal Academy of Sciences for DNA testing this week and we'll see if anything ends up being changed, but again, hard for a hybrid when one of the parent species isn't there...:)

A blue ribbon eel. I will never have one because they are so hard to keep. But they are spectacular. I am never going to have an absolutely MASSIVE tank and that is the only size I would even 'consider' putting one in.

Well well well...
The Moorish Idol is one, but I'll never get one because their tendency to die shortly after collecting and I don't want to support that trade

OK,

you baited me. i collected it myself, and its been doing great for 2 years.

i think the transportation is the problem, not the actual fish, whereas i find them very very tank hardy , eats everything that hits the water.

Annularis (blue ring) angel - gorgeous fish! Obviously would need a massive tank - after I win the lotto maybe... I'd start with a juvie because honestly I think the juvie large angels are the most gorgeous fish (love the swirl patterns and blue/black/white - can't beat it).

Second choice angels would be blue lined, blue spotted, or majestic.

And while we're dreaming, I'm going to get a few of the mini orcas as well.
