^^ that is a T. derasa. Looks healthy and growing (the white edge of the shell)
I guess when you see enough of them, at a brief glance you can tell. You just need to read more information about the 5 species of Tridacnid clams. Just like how can you tell a German shepherd from a Grey hound. You can really get technical long wind explanation or justification. There are plenty of these information around, I just don't want to spend the time to type them up again.Really? How can you tell the difference?
definately a derasa. hope they didn't charge you a maxima price. they probably didn't since they didn't even know what they were selling....
I am thinking of trying to breed them, i just dont know how old they have to be to do so nor how to tell how old they are.
there's much more about it that you don't know.
ever keep clams before??
they can and will easily die overnight.
ever see pyr snails?
pm?
what other critters do you have?
the derasa on an egg crate is not a good idea.
good luck
have not tried and don't want any releases in my systemNo i havent kept clams before, yes i have seen pyr snails (only images online) not sure what you mean by pm, i have a lot of critters (nothign that will harm clams), and no the dersa on the egg crate isnt a good idea but its only temporary. I had bought about 10 frags that day also so i'm finding some nice spots for where i want everything. Not like its going to kill it.
Have you tried breeding them??? More constructive posts would help. Theres not much more to it than i have already read. You can get as technical as you want the process to be to obtain 100% success, but lets not forget that this is a hobby, not a job, so achieving 100% isnt exactly the goal. more so average natural success rates (whatever that may be but i'm going to take a guess and say that its low) is ok with me.
