Why not make and acrylic box to house the meter and then have the cord and sensor outside since ta water proof anywayz

Great idea...however I'm guessing TAP plastics aint exactly open on his island...lol.

Pretty genius idea for the rest of us though! Might have to look into that...

My goodness! I'm sure there are many cons to your situation...but geez...an all expense paid VACATION?? Thats too much. Please pinch yourself. Lol.

I don't want to overstep my description on what we get. long and short, I get about 10,000 deposited in my account, and that's for airfare and whatever else expenses are incurred. this isnt a lot of funds if your vacationing for a month with the family in tow.

Robin Leach will not be stepping around the corner yelling champagne wishes and caviar dreams will I'm relaxing on a 200 foot super yacht.

for some reason, I got Amsterdam in my head, perhaps in November. I heard they have some good 'conferences' going on around that time.
:hmm5:

I earlier posted that shark dive I was on in the Bahamas. That was a week long trip in June where we dove 4 times a day and 1 night dive. Temp was constant 84 degrees also. Im interested in the NSW testing too!

yes, I think some folks are crazy for running chillers down to 73-75. FWIW i think a good compromise is 79-80.
soon enough on the tests, perhaps this weekend.

Subscribed.

Thanks for the awesome pics. and info.

your most welcome, I hope you enjoy the ride.

you guys must be mad. don't anger the gods, Poseidon will be upset and claim more of my stuff. I cannot even start to run down the list of what's been lost in the ocean: snorkels, nets, lights, buckets, flash diffusers. It can be very unforgiving and vast, even a few hundred feet offshore. the chance of me taking a $300 apogee meter out in the ocean is nil..unless we want to start a pp collection

Wait...you get an entire MONTH?? I'm thankful for my measly two weeks a year...and I get to pay for my own damn vacations thank you very much. :headwally:

In fact, I dont want to hear anymore. LOL. You are the luckiest guy on the planet...we'll just leave it at that.

Touche, good point. trust me, very greatful to be in this situation. ive been called lucky all my life, but sometimes you gotta make your own luck, ya know what i mean?

Ponpei keeps popping up......might do a half and half, 2 weeks in Ponpei, and wait a bit and do a couple of weeks in hawaii...decisions, decisions. tsk tsk.

I feel like I've been cheating on everyone. first off, happy 4th of July, I hope everyone enjoyed good times with family and friends, a few beers and fun in the sun. I'm dog tired on my end. I managed to sneak out on a reef walk, found my elusive black clam, did some scuba diving, found some nice acro's, did a tide pool snorkel, grabbed a few cool damsels. I didn't grab my camera for any of this, so booo on me. plotting on getting my fish catching gear plan of attack going, some seine nets, monofilament in bulk to making some new catch nets, so hopefully new fish pics in the next few weeks.

since I felt soooo guilty today for my lack of documentation, coupled with being tired from a full 3 day weekend, I decided to test NSW, so here you go. drum roll please. ta da! to give it some comparative values, I tested my own tank, which is running the following equipment, and dosing rates:

sulfur denitrator in a schuran reactor, +- 3" of media
kalk stirrer tied into ATO
Calcium dosed 5 mins, every 3 hours
Alk dosed 5 mins, every 3 hours
mag, manually dosed.

I'm still transitioning from NSW to synthetic sea salts. I'm steering towards doing 50/50% blend, NSW and synthetic on water changes.

everything seems to be settling in, i owe everyone a FTS, perhaps this week.

Holy re-calibration Batman! PH was 8.55?? My tank is running at 7.85-7.95 right now. (Although I run a Ca reactor which keeps it a little low.)

Oh what a difference.

Congrats on the clam find!!!! Think of all the $$$$$ saved

I can't believe the pH of NSW.

tis the truth i speak. i just calibrated the ph probe. if you look at the pic, i have 4.01, 7.01 and 10 solution on hand to recheck everything.

got really lucky with the clam find. its like looking for a needle in a haystack sometimes. yes the ph is higher, along with the temps. when the tides out, and some fish are trapped in pools, the temps have to be in the low 90's. i think the tolerance for high temps is greater than what we think.

That PH level still seems really bizarre to me. I certainly dont think you are lying...but even you must admit...that is definitely not in the range of what would be "normal".

Either way I want to say I am thankful for you sharing. This is an awesome thread!

nice pics, just tagging along on your thread, are you limited to how much corals can you collect, very cool. Thanks for sharing.
