150G Rimless Macroalgae Tank

Very nice setup. Can I ask where you got some of your Macros?

Also have you tried fertilizing your turtle grasses. I've read and been told that they require high nutrient levels to thrive.

This tank is over a year old, used to be SPS dominated. The substrate is pretty dirty, so I hope the grass is getting enough nutrient from the remain of whatever is under there. And I feed alot so the nutrient is fairly high.

Cool shots. I noticed the shots at the beginning of the thread. You have some nice stuff in there. Where did you get that "red leaf" macro. It's stunning.

How long have you had your turtle grasses?

I'm coming from a similar place. I've read that turtle grass may not get enough nutrients even from what we consider a "dirty" reef tank. I mixed ecocomplete into my sand bed at the recommendation of Russ at Gulf Coast Ecosystems and I've read that other people put fertilizer plugs for aquatic plants in the sand to help them

Here is my tank in 2008

Here it is yesterday

as you can see I'm changing over to a planted lagoon and I have some turtle grasses arriving this week.

I'll keep you posted on how they do.

I love the way this tank is turning out. I think its very brave to go from a fully setup tank and change for a new direction. I must admit when the seagrass start to take over that going to look amazing. I ts really nice to see a less conventional but more interesting system.

Took some more pictures the other day. I won't be adding much to this tank for a while, just going to let it grow. I'm leaving for Vietnam in May and won't be back til near july, but when I come back, I will add in more NPS / feather starfish / filter feeders / fish / macroalgae~

It's been a while since I stopped by here and all I can say is WOW!Your tank is sweet!

When trying to establish turtlegrass,I find that cleaning the leafs of growth to be important.Take a leaf in between your fingers and wipe it clean.I do this about once a week.

Managed to get some more picture. I had some really cool macro but they withered away sadly =/

Once I'm back in July, planning to get more sea apple / feather starfish / small gobies/ and alot more sexy shrimps / anemone shrimp!

Thank you Fawn, I usually have a friend that goes to cali to get shipment that pick out some stuff for me.

I forgot where I got the dragonbreath from unfortunately.

so this is what you do after you have mastered SPS!! lol

Haha, NPS is next on my list after I get back.

I don't dose anything for the macro really. They get enough nutrient from whatever I'm feeding the fish / decaying seagrass and what not. I am running GFO and dosing vodka w/ a big skimmer to reduce the nutrient (haven't taken a parameter test in a while)

I got a few questions :) What do you do for micro algae control? It seems like my turbos eat every type of macro I put in my tank. And how are you taking those awesome pictures? I have a cannon rebel XSI, but my pics come out like a point and shoot! LOL Thanks

Looks Great Kataro, im pretty damn Jealous here lol. Your pics are amazing and the lighting looks great. Do you do any color correction in photoshop or anything?

Jmnazari - if you plan to have any macros lose the turbos, not only do they get big and buldoze everything, but they eat most non-calcified display macro algae. Astrea snails, ceriths, limpets, and dwarf ceriths work great for a macro tank.
