My Black Ocellaris FINALLY spawned for me! WHOO HOOO!!!!!

The wife was cleaning the tank glass tonight and noticed them getting very aggressive towards her. I looked in the spot they seemed to be defending and low and behold, silver tipped eggs!

They must be close to hatching (can see eyeballs, if its not in the morning they hatch, its tomorrow (Light the tanks here overnight)), so I guess I have to setup my little larval snagger tonight (the rock is a base rock and cannot be removed)..

Timing couldnt be better / worse.. I'm out of work for a few weeks with a fractured shoulder, so I can tend to them, but at the same time its difficult to move things around..

Probably about 2 1/2 years. Definate pair with cleaning activity for the past year, but this is the first nest I found.

I'm so psyched. Now I gotta get them to use tile :)

What did you do to your shoulder? Quadrunner accident?
Not quite:lol:

Nice! Maybe mine will follow your lead, too. I wonder why it takes them so long and if this is a trait peculiar to the blacks?

Congrat's Nagel. I just purchased a spawning pair so I'm hoping they resume their activities very soon.

Yes, and they are also noted for being very inconsistant spawners too. Think pink skunk...

As far as the taking so long trait, what if the one clown is Black and the other is a true perc? (within 5 minutes of introduction, they were shaking and shivering)

How quickly they start forming a pair bond has little to do with how quickly they may or may not spawn.

As a general rule the female determines when to spawn, and if the female is a black A. ocellaris, I would expect to see a long and drawn out process with many false starts and lots of starts and stops once it does start.

fwiw: mine spawned 6 times like clockwork prior to moving from a 300g to a breeder tank.....have not bred since the move(4-6 weeks) prior to this post.

My regular ocellaris spawn so consistently, the swiss have asked to set their clocks by them (7 days to hatch, 11 days later another spawn, and its literally 2 hrs after lights come on that they do it.

The blacks have been cleaning forever.. I wanna take pics, but the flash really annoys them, and even with a D70S, and a 60mm macro lens, I had trroubles focusing on my ocellaris spawns.

As for the shoulder, Well, you can read that story here: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=793234

I'm hoping these guys start more regular spawning. We noticed it by pure luck, and they indeed did hatch this morning. Good thing the wife cleaned "her side" of the tank last night (otherwise we wouldn't have noticed it)..

Also a good thing that the remainders my first clutch of ocellaris to get past metamorphisis are now on flake. My rotifer cultures are nice and dense for the blacks :)

Oh yeah!!!!!

Double Whammy!!!

I just noticed a clutch of regular ocellaris eggs now too! (d'oh!) Their last clutch should have hatched on Saturday the 3/4/06, but I was at a wedding. Pulled the tile on 3/3/06 and got home 3/5/06 to see they had fungus (I figured its better to try, if I didn't they were certainly goners). This new ocellaris clutch must have been laid this past wednesday (and they are orangish brown, so the timing fits), so at least I have some time to REALLY pump up my rotifer cultures (first time I have to deal with two clutches eating rotifers, good thing I have 3 x 5.5g cultures going!!)

Wow, something is really right around here these days...

I can see it now, my True Percs from Traveller7 are gonna lay eggs this weekend just to throw a wrench in the gears..

Congrats Again & can't wait for pics.. after the clowns start to spawn is it possible to put tile/etc near the spot, would they chnge to the smoother tile?

my percs just died after 2years =( i was so looking for them to spawn sometime soon =( i'm debating on getting mated pair or not.
