a simple sps tank

No one uses GE 6500k t5's anymore? :D I used to love this bulb to tone down the all the blue tubes. It really brings out pink SPS colors. Mike, I love the openness of the scape. The corals have so much to grow, and fish room to swim :). Next time I upgrade I'm going to make my scape much like yours.

Hey Mike that is looking pretty sweet! If you get a photoshop type program you can also crop so you don't see the light fixture - less distractions in my humble opinion.

Hey Mike, i agree with Greg the tank is looking great. Perhaps try under exposing about two stops as this will stop the wash out you're seeing in the pics i'm pretty certain mate. I always set the phone camera to under expose one or two stops. You can always brighten a pic but you're buggered if it's over exposed and the detail is gone.
Keep playing around and listen to the guys who know what they're talking about (not me) . :p

I love your show tang a lot btw, he's a brute lol. I saw a 4" powder blue at Willy last visit and he was super fit and healthy. He looked so pretty but he already had that snooty arrogant mixed with psychopathic rage look........ aint going anywhere near that lol......... I definitely want a show fish but a purple tang is no 1 priority :)
Have you got any fish ideas planned, you can fit lots more fishies in that big tank Mike so...........

Hi Mike,

I used photoshop but any app that can change white balance will work. Literally 30 seconds of sliding a control. There's also a decent free program that will do it called RawTherapee. It's not as easy to use, but it's free! White balance is key, and generally white balance is adjusted by sliding a scale between blue and yellow. Less blue, more yellow generally gets the image close to reality, then you can tweak other scales if you have the patience. :-)

Thank you so much mark for the info:beer:
I'll try that programm also.Don't care if it's difficult...beeing free makes me forget everything:p

Whenever i put that bulb(still have two of them, brand new) richard in the comco it becomes yellow.Same happens with the ABS:-(
Still can't figure out why, maybe it's the hole combination of bulbs i use.
Still not 100% in love with my last one and i think i'll give a try to this

Bulb choosing makes me feel everytime like a woman and the way they try to see what's the best shoe to wear...i hate that...especially when we are late:headwally::headwally:
Took some more pics which i'll upload soon after i try for myself this time,to adjust:-)
Really glad you like it buddy,it means a lot:beer:
I want to give big balls,as much space as possible,so even the aquascape is towards that direction:-)
He can get big,he is really active and lets be honets....this tank is not the ideal size for him:-(
Wish i could be there when you upgrade and help with everything and the aquascape:)
I'm sure you will make it much much better!
Thanks again buddy!

Thank you too for the tips biggles mate:beer:
I hope one day i'll be able to get descent pics...after i manage to improve the colors on my corals!:-)

Brute? Not even close man...he is a killing machine!I tried putting a mandarin in there and he went nuts!He even caught him with his mouth and moved him like the dogs do to cats!!
The last 3 months he has developed another angry behaviour towards anything black i wear!!!!I know it sounds crazy but whenever i go near the tank wearing a black tshirt or pants he goes nuts!
His eyes become blue and you can hear his tail hitting the glass!
I've even stopped showing this to friends for fun because he gets really mad and i don't want to stress him for no reason.
Has absolutely no problems with my hands in the tank. Most of the time he comes close and inspect what i'm changing/doing...again:-)
I really like moorish and i want to try one bad but i'm having second thoughts:-(
lol with the "do it" video

And i was about asking you what are your fish list plans:-)
Powders are really beautiful so think of him one more time mate.Personally i like them more compared to the purples:rolleyes:
Gold rims?Japonicus?

Thanks matt my friend, glad you like it!Still has a long long time before it becomes what i want/imagine:(
Yeah, you're right, guys have given awesome photo tips and i'm obliged to them for wanting to help:beer:

So you have a psycho fish in your tank....hmmm....I think a visit by Kevin along with his scuba gear will sort that fish out.

Mike, in terms of the GE 6500K and ATI ABS; these are VERY good bulbs...most people bash them because of the said yellowing/washing out...but I think given time, people would appreciate these bulbs more.

My current tube combo is:
Front

ATI Actinic
ATI ABS
ATI Actinic
ATI Blue+
---LED--- Royal Blue 100%, Blue and White 40%
ATI Coral+
ATI Actinic
ATI ABS
ATI Blue+

I am getting good colours. If the ATI ABS causes coral colours to wash out, then my colours must be better than what I see as I am using two ABS.

I agree, the ABS just needs to be tamed a bit with the bulbs you pair it with. If it is the only white bulb, it can overwhelm a little. That sucker is bright though!

I'm rather linking my latest combo

front

ABS
Coral+
Blue+
Blue+
Coral+
Coral+

The Blue and Corals, with lots of blue in them, seem to get rid of the garish cast of the ABS so the front of the tank looks pleasingly neutral to me now. I tried Purple+ in the back slot but it added way too much red for my liking.

Love the latest FTS.

In terms of lighting I always liked the ABS and the C+, but that was combined with RB Crees, which pump out a ton of blue, and surprisingly a lot of purple.

lol he is my sweethard so i guess he can be or become whatever he wants:inlove:
Sahin this guy is like denzel washington in equallizer....kevin would count only a few mins in there:bum:

I might not use ABS but i really do think of it as a very nice bulb.It has a lot to offer in a combo but i really don't like the yellow tone it gives.
Now that i see yours it might be due to the many blue plus i have and the purple one(in my first efforts). If i combine it with more actinics, only one or two blue+ and leave out the purple one it might fade that yellow tint i see.
Will try it in time and let you know.
Maybe that led bar i'm considering to build will help too, like you said before!

Lol, i know i have some nice sticks in there sahin but i only see brown ones...i'm blaming the fact that i'm colorblind:o:o

Really bright mhucasey indeed:)
I like how it can light up some spots that where shaded a bit before, wish it wasn't so dificult to get rid of that yellow tint i get.
I'll buy some more actinics and try something similar to sahin's combo!

That's what i saw exactly with the puprle in the combo mark!
Already in the storage room and i won't try them together again.
Maybe i'll try the ABS in the front too, haven't done this before.

Thanks jordan, really glad you like it:beer:

I know J,you made me a lot of times risk my life(sucking in photography is not my only tragedy....i'm incompetent when it comes to electric stuff too :( ) trying to make something similar to yours:p

Thanks rory, you are too nice my friend!Tank has a lot of work/time ahead:(
I feed three times per week seachem fuel, every night 10-15 ml flatworm stop and one new food)powder form) that came to my hands from oceanlife.
Add a couple ml of kz's coral snow every other night.
In a few weeks i'll make another batch of pappone.

Happy for you about the new job:beer:
I'm sure you'll have saltwater tanks in there in no time:p

No seriously mate things are looking good! I still love the scape:). As does my tank Mike, its a long way from being pretty enough for my liking:P Ok, you'll have to educate me on feeding mate as I'm clueless:lol:

Thanks mate, now that I've finished studys and have a job I can put more effort into my tank now that funds allow:bounce1:.

Tank looks great I'm a huge fan of open Aquascape!

Hope you find your sweet spot with the T5 combination.
I'm pretty happy with my crazy combo the reef brites help make the colors look more crisp.

Thank you afernandes,glad you like it!It means a lot:beer:
I hope this open space will be filled from coral growth:o

Regarding t5 i think i found my sweet spot. The only thing i need is one new actinic and i'm done:)
I've already seen your tank and i really like the RB's result!I'm searching atm what would be the best way to buy them! Thanks my friend!

Congrats on the beautiful tank!!
Thank you so much reefcowboy(love your nickname:) )
Glad you like it,much appreciated:beer:

So quasimodo wasn't ugly enough so fate decided to make him even uglier:hmm4:
For the last few months big balls had started chasing him a few times during the day.Mostly when food was in the picture:)
So yesterday during that he bumped his face probably on the glass and now his lower jaw is a bit crooked!
I felt really sad but i saw him eating like there is no tomorrow so i guess he will not have any problem...only with girls.
Tried to get a picture but he never stays put!

Regarding the tank
1.I'm thinking removing my sand again. It has coraline algea on it,something i don't really like.So in the next few days it will be out.Maybe i'll leave it BB again or put smaller size, than the one i have now
2.I'm thinking of removing my tower's glasses.Maybe i'll leave the pipes...hoping that as the corals will grow they will hide them...or drill the back of the tank, something i'm afraid of tbh.
Think i'll go down with the first scenario.

Advise to you find coupons!!

Y remove the sand ?
Due to my crazy flow I have a bald mullet sand bed lol
business In the front (bare)
Party in the back (1"-/+) :D

Tower glass?? I don't know what your Talking about . If your talking about the white return pipe You won't notice that in a little while your eyes will be directed to your corals ;)

Mike...going bare bottom again..? I have a sanded tank now...but I miss the bare bottom...relentless flow...miss that.

However I have noticed a much larger and viable population of critters in a sanded tank.

Why do you want to change?
