a simple sps tank

bacterial bloom when switched to probiotic AF salt!?

I was thinking switch gear to AF for fun and experience, now I may step-back a bit. AF has three type of salt and I assume you meant the one for SPS coral, right?

Love the look of this tank! Ever since you made the changes its been one of my favorite aquascaped reefs. The openness and overall layout is exactly the style I strive for. Not overly done and lots of space for corals to grow into nice big colonies. Great work!
Thank you so much todd,so happy you like it my friend:beer:
Can't express how much i appreciate your kind words!
It still has a long way ahead but i hope it will reach the destination and become what i have imagined it like:rolleyes:

I agree..............the space below looks great and the overall appearance has a nice clean look.
Thanks Ed,guys it's so nice to know that you like how it looks. It gives me strength to continue trying to make it better:beer:
And it really means a lot for me!

Yeah that's what i was thinking when this aquascape was being built.
That space under the rock not only it would(still has a long long road to do that) look dramatic but also it will always be there for the fish to swim,no matter how big fish or corals get.
Wish one day we will see it look like that :o

Thanks again guys:beer:

Indeed buddy:(
Thank dear God nothing bad happened.
To be honest i think the other two factors(stirring the sand a bit and tripling the pro bio s daily dose, after the WC) played a huge role too.
I mean i'm not sure if i would get the bloom by only changing 50-60% of the water.
I think i would still get it due to the probiotic nature of the salt but since i combined it with other(silly) acts,it's a theory/guess.
Too scared to try it again:p

Before the probiotic salt,i was using reef salt.I was pleased with it but i wanted to try that too.Kept using it(probiotic) after the bloom and nothing similar ever happened again.
Must say that my WC's after the bloom were/are weekly but only 5-10% of the total water volume.

The only differences i've spotted between reef salt and probiotic is,better response from corals(polyp related) and easier handling of my no3 levels.
Other than that nothing major or epic:)
That's of course in my case, other friends might have different exp.

And one todays pic, after stylo's relocation etc
Think(not making the mistake to swear :p ) i'll leave it like this for a long time...

You're killing me Mike. ;)

You're killing me bud with your kindness, thank you soooo much for devoting some of your free time to correct my pic:love1:

^^Nice pic, been lurking your thread for some time, this pic really brings it home :)
Thanks man,really glad you like it!Much appreciated:beer:
Credits go to mark who made the pic viewable:)

This is an awesome tank!
Thank you so much my friend, your kind words mean a lot:beer:
Still needs a lot of time though but what the @#$@,if we are healthy anything can happen:)

I completely missed the update lol

Tank is kicking *** mate and Mark's little edit really shows the awesomeness!! Have you had any thoughts on more fish or are you content with your two fatties?? lol I know I would be!

What an odd question. :uhoh2:

More pics Mike, even if I have to adjust the color! :D

I wanted to update for some time:)
I made some coral relocating, mostly to the corals which were high on the rocks(that sounded weird:p ) because i wanted to have as much as possible time while i'm cleaning the sump.
I was always on a harry while they were exposed to the air.Nothing bad ever happened but why not take my time during the WC?

I think now it has a more natural look too.
The only reason i haven't posted a pic is a blue dot goby i added,so he can keep my sand clean.
The two sandsifting starfish were to slow to keep it krispy white and i might remove one of them because i also added a cucumber.I've 5 strombus too so i think i'm ok lol
The downside is that, this little dude has made the tank like a snowy day and pics are exactly like that:p
Even you my dear friend can't make them look good and thank you sooo much again, for spending time on that :inlove:
I think in the next couple of weeks things will be cleaner and i'll try to take some pics.
What i'm seeing is that all this sandsifting has made PE on corals really great.
Could be all that detritus that rose from the sand? The use of phosphate minus?Something else?Really can't tell atm:rolleyes:
Colors are getting better slowly,too.

"The dude" has now much more lines on his body and his grunts become stronger and stronger:fun5:

As soon as the water becomes a bit more clear i'll add some photos

F*!@# YEAH!! I completely missed the update lol

Thanks bud,so glad you like it man:beer:
It still needs a lot of time:(
And when i'm close to be a bit happy with growth and sizes,i see some other tanks and i start crying again lol

I added a blue spot goby:p
He is so small that he doesn't even qualifies for the fish gang.
Lately i've been thinking of adding a tusk or again one anthias group.

The fatties are getting fatter every day...a lot of food thrown in there for them:rollface:

Mark was so kind to spend time on editing the pic.The best pic in all of the pages...and i had nothing to do with it lol

As soon as the particles from the water column go away/settle,i'll take some pics:beer:

Mike, do you have any idea how frickin' cool a school of anthias would look in your spooky reef??
If they only made black anthias with red eyes!!! It would be straight out of a Hitchcock movie!
Seriously though.. Anthias! Yes! :bounce2:

I recently added an orange spot goby to my tank to clean the sand. He got rid of all the dark spots in my sand bed. However... The tank is not as clear as it used to be. There are good days and bad..

We set up these elaborate and finicky aquariums in our home out of love for nature and the love of watching our own little universes evolve and thrive. I'm sure we all have our own specific reasons but I think we all derive a sense of joy and satisfaction out of our creations. There is so much BS in the world and we make a tiny sanctuary for ourselves in our reefs.. Sometimes I think the BS is just better off ignored..

It's coming along so well though and from what you've got now to what you'll have in another 12 months is going to be seriously impressive! :)

I think I'm going to have to agree with Matt though, anthias fo shizzle!! :D They will look so cool swimming around, through, above and between spooky reef! The pops of colour will add something pretty special!

I suggest the two folks involved in an ongoing personal argument keep it out of the RC sandbox. Play nice or don't play and go to time out. I have more interesting things to do than cleaning up after some of the nonsense.

Thanks tom and sorry/apologies for the trouble:beer:

Oh man, that FTS that mark reposted looks phenomenal! Excellent growth and great colors! You also just happen to have two of my favorite fish swimming around in there. A group of anthias would look beautiful in there but at the same time I really like the minimalistic look to your tank as you have it now. It's a piece of art, and it would be tough to improve on that.

Matt those anthias would be awesoooome!Dibs on the names....devil's anthias...blackdevils....redeye terror...:p

In the winter, setting up a quarantine is easier(in my case) compared to summer so maybe i'll bite the bullet.I'm really scared atm, adding so many fish.

I feel you buddy regarding the goby:(
The good side of things is that he does a really good job with the sand and corals look like they don't mind all those "flying" particles.

As for the BS...ignoring them is a good way but this requires morality on their part...if they don't have it they think it's a win against you...
You spit on them and they think it's raining...
Enough with that,hobby time again:beer:

You give me courage and strength to wait, dom buddy:beer:
Really appreciate it!

I'm thinking of some dispar again.Maybe 11-13,i don't know.I worry that they might not handle quarantine very well.

Thanks conor bud:beer:
It means a lot to me.
Yeah,Mark was really kind and did an awesome job!Much obliged to him:love1:

Still needs a lot of work though:(
It can do better and if compared to your gems guys,it needs to cover a lot of distance to do that lol

Those two are getting bigger everyday.I'll try to get a pic of the emp to see how much he has changed.

Never thought someone would call this tank piece of art:o:o
Sure it's not but it was nice to read that and even nicer of you to think of it conor:love1:

Thanks guys:beer:
