Anyone tried the Coralvue Reeflux 10k bulbs?

My Reeflux 12k's came in Friday and I put them on yesterday. Here's a pic over one of my tanks. Reeflux 12k on the left and Reeflux 10k on the right.

I have been using the 10,000K Reeflux bulbs for almost 9 months now on my 450 SPS tank. I am very pleased with the color rendition and how the colors of my SPS corals have popped. There was one SPS coral that was once a dull brown color tucked away in the corner, it now has started to turn a light blue color. I have also used the 12,000K Reeflux bulbs without actinics on a Frag tank with good results. The 12,000K, IMO, is not nearly as blue as most 14,000 K bulbs marketed. However it is difficult to state definitively because there is great variation on how the bulbs are marketed by the manufacturer. Bulbs labeled 12000 K through 20,000 K bulb, may in fact have similar Spectral plots. So ultimately it will be up to you to decide which bulb has the amount of blue that you desire.

phishlet that looks pretty good on the left. That's MH only right? Is that picture pretty accurate to the real-life color of it? Finally what ballast are you running on?

I was considering Reeflux 10k but hear they run with a slight pink tint on Icecap ballast and am curious if the 12k will work better instead.

Yes I think the color is pretty accurate. The photos above are without actinic supplementation; just the halides. Lamps in the photos are running on PFO HQI ballasts.

The 12k lamps make the oranges and greens pop. But the reds and purples don't look quite as nice as under the Reeflux 10k lamp. Blue sps probably looks better under the 10k's as well. I'm not usually a big fan of the more blue light. I'm really more of a 10k guy so to me the Reeflux 12k lamps are a little too blue. I thought they might run a bit more white on an HQI ballast so I'm going to give them a week or two and see how they burn in. Don't get me wrong. If you're looking for a nice blue lamp that isn't as grey/blue looking as the XM 10k or blue, blue like the XM 15K you'll probalby like the Reeflux 12k.

After looking @ dphinsx2 picture, The 10 reeflux looks very similiar to the 14K Hamiton 250 Watt run on the PFO HQI ballast.
I know that the 10k's need actinic supplement to look this way, but comparing a new 14K hamiton to a new 10K reeflux, Whats the difference?

I called premium aquatics today and asked them what the difference was. Jeremy told me that it's about 10% more par than the hamilton. For me it's not worth the change, only problem with the hamilton is that after 6 months you need to change the bulbs to keep the par up. If the reeflux lasts a hole year than it would be worth the change.

Why would you have to change a SE bulb so quickly? Is it because you are running it on HQI Ballast?

I'm not very happy with my 2x 250W XM10K's on IceCap ballast (supplemented with 2x 95W VHO actinic 03's). Colors just don't 'Pop' like I thought they would...was thinking of trying a slightly more blue bulb.

After going through this thread, I thought I might try Reeflux 10K or 12K bulbs.

Can someone with first hand experience using both the XM 10K and Reeflux 10K (or 12K) bulbs on IC ballast give me their impression of how they compare? Is one more blue than the other...is one more bright (par) than the other...etc? Any input is appreciated.

I've used 10K XM's with IC and I am now using the 10K reeflux bulbs with IC ballast. XM's have more par, but less blue. IMO I like the reeflux better. The reeflux also spikes really high in the 450nm range and the XM doesn't. The XM does cover more spectral peaks than the reeflux, but IMO I am getting better results from the reeflux bulbs as far as color of the corals.

yes ,the Hqi ballast will burn the bulbs hotter and end their life quicker. I can get 8 months out of the hamiltons running 8 hrs a day. It's Safer for me to change them out evrey 6 months

Here are mine going into week 3 with t5 actinics
the white balance on the camera is set to give a good portrayal of the true color
12Ks on magnetic ballast
