Anyone tried the Coralvue Reeflux 10k bulbs?

So what's the deal with the arc tube ends. Clearly if they are the clear tubes they can still be pink. Mine are not just a little pink. They are blazing pink. They are even pinker than they were yesterday. So far I am not liking these bulbs at all. I mean at this point I would be very surprised to see them shift to a bluer color. There is not a trace of blue in them now. Not even close.

I think it took a couple months, but I only run my bulbs 6 hrs. a day. I was about to get rid of them and then the turned white/blue and have stayed that way.

How long till most pink was gone? Months? Are they white or white/blue now? [/QUOTE]

Mine when I first turned them on and looked at the wall they were supper pink. The color of the bulbs were white/pink. VHO's helped, but after they burned in they turned white/blue. I really like them now but it took awhile for the pink to go away. My friend has the RL with the white end envolope and are bulbs are night and day. Mine are white/blue, his yellow/pink. I think he is going to return them. Are yours yellow/pink? If so I would contact CV and return them. If they are white/pink they just need to burn in.

After so much dissatisfied remarks, it is amazing that people are still buying these bulbs. Turn the bulb this way so the nipple is facing blah blah blah, get the ones with the clear end of the inner tube, blah blah blah. You are not supposed to use HQI ballasts, they will void the warranty. blah blah blah. If the bulbs don't fire up with the electronic ballasts, try firing them up with a HQI ballasts (according to coralvue from what I read somewhere here)blah blah blah.

Come on now people. Enough is enough. I have to say I am, or should I say, I was a "proud" owner of these bulbs. I used it for less than a month and now it has been in the closet for more than 6 months.

Looking at trying the reflux 10k's so I emailed Coralvue and asked about the different arc tubes and got this reply.

We had a production run where we added an aluminum oxide coating to the arc tubes. Some people reported that it gave a pink look to the light with this white coating. We have since stopped using it and only have clear arc tubes on the market. I hope you will give these unique bulbs a chance.

I know a couple of locals that use them with great success and I'll probably give them a try. I'm currently using Iwasaki 65k 5hrs a day supplemented by phoenix 14k 12 hrs a day. I'm looking for a little better color in ms acro's.

I know many people with the clear arc tubes and they are def. not pink... I been using these bulbs for 6 months + and they are great... I also tried the 12ks also very nice....

Which one do you prefer and why? Are the 12k's much more blue than the 10's? Do you find that you get nice color in your SPS fron them?

They are both really nice, but i like the 10ks better.... You get alot better growth out of the 10ks and the color is just insane out of them.. The 12ks are nice just a little more bluer and a little less growth...

Here is an example. I got this Michael Palletta blue acro frag in June I think it was. The first pic was right after I got it. The second pic was taken a few weeks ago, so maybe 2 months or so growth, so maybe you can tell me how good this is. Also, I'm still getting myself together with my other water parameters, so those would play a role in its growth too...anyway, here's the pics:

Sorry to say but I think your coral is bleached out by the bulbs which is another issue with them. Good luck.

"Another issue with them"? What other issues are there?

So, since I'm fairly new to this, besides just saying that it looks like it's bleaching, how about some feedback as to what would help, if you think that's what it's doing. btw...to let you know the full setup, the lights are about 8 inches above the water and the coral itself is about 8 inches off the bottom of the tank (2 ft deep tank). It always has great polyp extension. Where do I move it to make it happier? Or should I move the lights up more? Thanks in advance for the input.

Also, the coloring of that pic is not entirely true to life. The upper parts of it have more blue than is being shown there, and the lower part is actually darker than how it looks in the pic.

But it still looks like it's bleached, IMHO...

Now:
Comparing the Phoenix 14Ks vs ReefLux 12Ks, what are your comments, please? Same blueish? Which is bluer or which do you liek the most?

It would be interesting to hear!

Thx

I have RF-12k Now and it looks blue on HQi ballast.Very similar to Radiums > I dont have exp. with Hamilton-14k but i use to have Aquaconect-14k . If i had options, i would def. stick with aq-14k.
JMO.

I just got my 250w 12ks running the other day and I'm suprised at how dim they are. The color is good, but I don't know if I can take the lack of brightness. I may try out their 10ks.

I've used AQ SE 14k, Coralvue SE 12k, and currently am running Radium SE lamps; all on a PFO HQI ballast. All of these lamps are similar at first. The AQ lamps burned whiter after the initial burn in and for the rest of their useful life. The Radium and Coralvue look similar. I like some things about the Coralvue 12k better and some things about the Radium better. With actinic supplementation I most prefer the AQ 14k lamps. Without supplementation the Radium and CV12k look real nice.

The 12k do get brighter after a week or so depending on your photoperiod. The brightness is a bit decieving if you are use to a lower k bulb. I have been using the 12ks for a few months now and sps growth is good. If you check on page 34, I have some growth pics on there.
