Anyone tried the Coralvue Reeflux 10k bulbs?

I haven't had issues with my 10k, but not all my corals like it. My Larry Jackson doesn't seem to like the bulb. It's mostly browned out from it. When the main lights go out, with my actinics running, the coral has better color. My birdnest looks good but doesn't seem to be growing. I guess there isn't a perfect bulb out there, all of them have trade offs.

Well said. I still think, if you can, you're best off with a mix of MH types.

I'm running a 12,000K 400W and driving it with a PFO HQI Ballast. It wouldn't fire at first so I switched it to a PFO pulse start ballast and it fired right up. After 24 hours I swithced it back to the original ballast and it's been running fine for just under 60 days. Corals are doing fine but the bulb is a little too blue for my tastes. I also have 2 - 110W URI actinic VHO's on with it. I'm going to change one of them to a 50/50 and I think it will look perfect.

Regards,
Kevin

I've used 10K XM's with IC and I am now using the 10K reeflux bulbs with IC ballast. XM's have more par, but less blue. IMO I like the reeflux better. The reeflux also spikes really high in the 450nm range and the XM doesn't. The XM does cover more spectral peaks than the reeflux, but IMO I am getting better results from the reeflux bulbs as far as color of the corals.
Ditto here. I'm using the 250w bulbs.

They work on a PFO pulse start and HQI magnetic ballast. I don't know about a standard PFO magnetic ballast.

Kevin

I'm considering trying the Reeflux Single Ended 12k bulbs after reading all the good reports. But I haven't found the 12k online anywhere, only the 10k. Where can I order the 12K ones from?

Customaquatic also carries them but I think they are out of stock at the moment.

Anyone else have pictures of the 10k's or 12k's by themselves? Anyone have growth comments, especially with the 12k's?

I am just starting with SPS frags, they all have growth tips on them, LPS are healthy and growing

Lights seem to make a nice balance of look and growth

Just got a 250W Reeflux 10k (FYI, backordered from Custom Aquatics...took about 1.75 weeks to arrive).

Side-by-side with a 250W XM10K (~6mo. old; 6hr/day) on Ice Cap ballasts and spider reflectors...they looked 'almost' indestinguishable to my eye in terms of intensity and color (certainly no different at all to my wife's eye; btw, I've seen Sanjay's data and compared the two bulbs on his site).

Of course you need to take into account the age of the XM and that the Reeflux is not burned in yet, but the Reeflux was just ever-so-slightly more blue than the XM. Also, as others have noted, there may be a 'hint' of pink in there (but I wouldn't have said that if I didn't know to look for it; doesn't bother me).

As to whether my corals will do well under it or not...I'll have to wait and see. :D

I use the 175 watt reeflux 12k bulbs myself and think there awesome. I also get them locally from Tony. www.acropora.net or othewise known as Reef Exotics. He has them in stock and is a pleasure to deal with.

I just received my 400 W bulbs. I'll post pre and post pictures. When I get around to taking down the reflectors and putting the bulbs in.

Thanks Nathan!

;)

Do any of you with the 12k's have them on Icecap ballasts? Do they have a slight pink hue like the 10k's seem to on the Icecaps? The pictures so far look good but I believe they are all magnetic or HQI balalsts and am curious how they run on the Icecaps.

OMG!!!! These things ROCK. I just got them today to replace my 6500K's that I was using to grow out the corals. Check these B4 and After shots! Thanks for starting this thread. I would have ended up with XM's or Ushios had you guys not peaked my interest!
